Iris Christel Tyner
The memorial service for Iris Christel Tyner will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Rd., Medford. Joe McManhan, director of pastoral care, Asante, will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Iris Christel Tyner, 62, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at her home.
She was born Dec. 9, 1940 in Berlin, Germany. She worked as a phlebotomist at a military hospital in Germany before coming to the United States in 1965. She attained her U.S. citizenship and continued her health care education, becoming a certified nurses assistant, licensed practical nurse and following graduation from SOSC in Ashland in 1978, a registered nurse. She began her career at Rogue Valley Medical Center in 1979, where she eventually became director of patient services. Her current position was that of critical care unit manager.
On Dec. 31, 1965 in Albany, Ga., she married W. T. (Wayne) Tyner, whom she had met in Germany. They moved to Ashland in 1970 and built a home on the Greensprings, where they moved in 1971.
Survivors include three daughters, Corina Noah of Frederick, Md.; Patricia Gutschmidt of Jamestown, N.D.; and Pamela Taylor of Frederick, Md.; one brother, Peter Friedrichs of Schwedt, Germany; one sister, Sylvia Hoffman of Frankfurt, Germany; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild. Her husband, Wayne, preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000.

Caroline Marie Langlois
The graveside service for Caroline Marie Langlois will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Caroline Marie Langlois, 88, of Ashland, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Skylark Assisted Living, Ashland.
Mrs. Langlois was born to Louis and Anna (Wagner) Schweikl, May 19, 1914 in Park Falls, Wisc. In 1931, she married Leo Langlois in Park Falls. They lived in Milwaukee, Wisc. and moved to Ashland in 1946. Mr. and Mrs. Langlois were owners of the Emigrant Lake Cafe for seven years before it was moved to make way for the Emigrant Lake recreation area.
Mrs. Langlois was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church and was past president of the Ashland Senior Club.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tony DeMartini of Ashland; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Leo, preceded her in death in 1988; three brothers also preceded her.

Joshua Lyle Fichtner
Joshua Lyle Fichtner, 3 months, of Gold Hill died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at Doernbecher's Children's' Hospital Portland, Ore. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at Trail Christian Fellowship, 18881 Hwy. 62, Eagle Point. Pastor Doug Higuera will officiate. A Graveside service and interment will follow at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Joshua, son of Wesley and Suzanne (Olson) Fichtner, was born Sept. 18, 2002 at Doernbecher's.

Jeffrey Craig Martin
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003 at Havurah Shir Haddash Synagogue in Ashland for Jeffrey Craig Martin, who died Dec. 24, 2002 at age 48.
Mr. Martin was born Jan. 11, 1954 to Alene and Virgil Martin. He grew up in Portland and Fairview, Ore., graduating from Reynolds High School.
Mr. Martin was a self-employed auto wholesaler for the past 15 years. He moved to Ashland in 1999 and worked as a development assistant and consultant.
He enjoyed salmon fishing in Alaska and rafting the Rogue River.
Survivors include his mother; stepfather, Len Edwards; uncle, Bill Martin of Central Point; cousin, John Schleining of Ashland; extended family and friends. His father passed away in 1994.

Craig B. Vittetoe
Craig B. Vittetoe, age 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at Ashland Community Hospital.
Mr. Vittetoe was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1923, to John C. and Mary Frances Bensler Vittetoe. The family lived in Iowa and adjacent states until 1939. From 1935 through 1939, they experienced Iowa the great drought and the great depression.
In l940, Vittetoe graduated from Greeley High School, Greeley, Colo. Though he was the youngest member of his class, he tied for head of the class. After high school, he attended Colorado State College of Education (Greeley), Colorado School of Mines (Golden).
In World War II, he served in the Headquarters of the First United States Army in England and Europe. He was in touch with some of his fellow soldiers until the end of his life.
After the war, Mr. Vittetoe attended Stanford University, where he majored in English and minored in French. He earned his Stanford degree with "Great Distinction".
In 1951, in Palo Alto, he married the former Annerose (Anne) Schoenhaar. They had two children, Melanie and Timothy.
In l984, Mr. Vittetoe retired from the Palo Alto Schools after teaching there for 34 years. In 1985, he and his wife moved to Ashland, where he both tutored and taught English and French at Southern Oregon State College. In Ashland, he played with the Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra for eight years.
Mr. Vittetoe especially enjoyed participating in music from the sixth grade on. In the Bay Area, he was a member of the San Andreas String Quartet for almost thirty years. This group performed regularly. At Stanford, he was principal cellist in both the university and opera orchestras. He was also a cellist in the San Jose Symphony and Santa Clara Philharmonic.
As head of the English Department at Palo Alto High School, Palo Alto, Calif., he introduced the four-period day for English teachers. He was in touch with many former students who said that he was the best teacher they ever had. These included one former First Lady of Colorado, professors at Yale, Reed, U.C. Berkeley, singer Joan Baez and Elizabeth Zinser, president of Southern Oregon University, Ashland.
Mr. Vittetoe co-authored a series of English texts for Addison-Wesley Publishing Company and was author of a number of other texts. For several summers, Vittetoe taught at the U. of Nebraska in Lincoln, the U. of Missouri in Columbia and Stanford University. One year he was a Lynch Fellow at the U. of California in Berkeley. He was a member of the Commission on English of the National Council of Teachers of English.
Recently, members of the San Andreas String Quartet funded an honorary recognition at Palo Alto High School, English Department, for his long service and dedication.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; daughter Melanie; son Tim; two grandchildren, Tom and Kelly; daughter-in-law, Deborah; and Michael Brogley.
