Henry Leland "Lee" Vaughn
1926-2004
Henry Leland "Lee" Vaughn, a Cottage Grove resident since 1961, died May 2 at the age of 77 from age-related causes.
He was born June 16, 1926, in Lake City, Ark., to Will and Nancy Vaughn.
He graduated from high school in California and moved to Cottage Grove in 1961.
He studied at Lane Community College to become a millwright and completed classes in half the normal time.
He served three tours in the U.S. Army from April 27, 1946, to Oct. 3, 1951.
In Cottage Grove he worked at Heart Newspapers.
He then worked his way up in the mills and retired from Weyerhaeuser Co. in 1987.
He married Alice Watts in Walker March 29, 1980.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, rock collecting and watching "Jeopardy."
He was a member of the Moose and Elks lodges and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Lee Vaughn.
He is survived by his wife; stepchildren: Debbie Maddox of Oakland and Rod Elliott of Sutherlin; six grandchildren and several of nieces and nephews.
Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Peterson
1925-2004
Alice Peterson, a 60-year resident of the area, died April 30 at the age of 78 from complications due to open heart surgery and diabetes.
She was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Sisseton, S.D., to John and Inas Berquist.
She completed school through ninth grade in Hood River.
She married Orville Peterson in Albany Sept. 1, 1945.
She previously lived in South Dakota, California and Hood River.
She was a homemaker and worked at A&P Slat Co.
She enjoyed crocheting, reading, music and her great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and a past grand matriarch of Oregon for the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law: Billie and Darryl Crooks of Creswell; daughter: Bonnie Settera of Springfield; brother: Calvin Berquist of Cottage Grove; grandchildren: Darin and Jennifer Crooks of Cottage Grove, Terisa Settera of Springfield and Timothy Settera of Springfield; and great-grandchildren: Autumn and Derek Crooks and Julie, Talama and Marcus Settera. She was also loved by Mykael McMahan.
A visitation was held May 5 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
A funeral was held at Smith-Lund-Mill Funeral Chapel May 6 and inurnment was at Willamette National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent in lieu of flowers to Eugene Diabetes Association.
Harriet Elizabeth Watson
Harriet Elizabeth Watson, 83, of Cottage Grove, died April 30 in Oregon City.
She was born in Bartley, Neb., to Hiram and Jane McCord.
No date of birth was given.
She was a high school graduate.
She married LeRoy Watson in Grand Island, Neb., Feb. 18, 1940.
She formerly lived in Roseburg.
She was a 35-year resident of Cottage Grove.
She was a homemaker and was part owner and operator of Kirk's Village Bakery.
She enjoyed sewing and cake decorating.
Survivors include sons: Bob Watson of Haines, Alaska, Butch Watson of Oregon City, Larry Watson of Salem, Jim Watson of Cottage Grove, Elmer Watson of Oceanside, Calif., and Roy Watson of Beaverton; daughters: Diane Burson of Beaverton and Rita Berger of Carmel Valley, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A service and interment was held May 7 at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Smith-Lund-Mills was in charge of arrangements.
Gordon David Magnusson
1932-2004
Gordon David Magnusson, a 65-year resident of Cottage Grove, died April 29 at the age of 71.
He was born Oct. 17, 1932, to Salem and Hilda Magnusson in Saginaw.
He married Patricia Martin in Cottage Grove April 8, 1955.
He graduated from Cottage Grove High School.
He attended Eugene Vocational from 1957-1959 and took various classes at Lane Community College.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was retired from Champion Friction Co. in Eugene.
His hobbies were fishing, all youth sports and his grandchildren.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Independent Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law: Debra and Todd Maus of Cottage Grove; granddaughters: Delsey and Demi Maus of Cottage Grove; brother: Don Magnusson of Washington; and sister: Caroline Klansnic of Cottage Grove.
No service was planned.
