Helen E. Grilley
Helen Elaine Grilley, 93, of Medford, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Farmington Square in Medford. A memorial service will be held in Montana at a later date.
She was born July 25, 1909, in Antelope, Mont., to Nellie and William Crohn. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Plentywood High School in 1927.
Mrs. Grilley taught in rural schools for five years before attending Teacher's College in Billings, Mont., where she received a two-year degree.
She continued teaching for 15 years and earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Montana University in Billings. In 1949, she earned a master's degree in education from Eastern Montana University, and for the next 14 years was a teaching supervisor in Oregon, Montana and California.
She earned her doctorate in 1966 and taught at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. She was also a professor at Eastern Montana University in Billings for eight years.
During the summer, she managed Echo Lake Cabins in Montana.
Mrs. Grilley traveled extensively and visited six continents.
Survivors include two daughters, Idamarie Barnes, Medford, and Pat Dake, Big Fork, Mont.; a brother, Louis Crohn, Big Fork, Mont.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth.

Gilbert Allan Miller
Gilbert Allan Miller, 70, of Ashland, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
Gilbert 'Top' Miller
The funeral for Gilbert "Top" Miller will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 111 Clay St., Ashland. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Bob Gish of the LDS Church will officiate.
Mr. Miller, 70, of Ashland, died Thursday (April 17, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born June 15, 1932, in Taylor, Idaho, to Edwin and Gladys Miller. He received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from what is now Southern Oregon University in Ashland. On Feb. 5, 1955, in Chieveley, England, he married Vivienne "Dusty" (Brown) Miller, who survives.
Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years, retiring in 1975 as a senior master sergeant of security and law enforcement. He served in England, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand and the United States. His awards included the Bronze Star for his Vietnam service, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal.
After retiring from the USAF, he became interested in veterans' issues. He was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association and was appointed the state director for Oregon in 1984. He held the position for seven years, which allowed him to work in the political arena promoting veterans' interests. He also belonged to several other military and wildlife organizations.
Mr. Miller was an avid reader of history and a model train enthusiast. He enjoyed travel and teaching his grandchildren to cook. He was a Boy Scout leader while stationed in England.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Karen Andersen, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Janice Olufsen, Shoreline, Wash.; two sons, Alan, John Day, and Bruce, Amissville, Va.; four brothers, Gail, Los Gatos, Calif., Sheron, Pocatello, Idaho, Earl and Glen, both Idaho Falls; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell.
Friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the LDS Church, 111 Clay St., Ashland.

Marion B. Gowan, 88, of Medford, died Friday, April 18, 2003 at her residence.

Ruth L. Prince
Ruth L. Prince, 87, of Medford, died Friday, April 18, 2003. A private memorial service will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to Jackson County Library.
Ruth Lucie Prince was born May 12, 1915 in Los Angeles, Calif., daughter of Richard and Lucie Buchanan. She lived in the Rogue Valley since 1948.
On Aug. 19, 1938, Ruth married Walter H. Prince, he passed away in 1978. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and taking walks.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Murphy of Creswell, Ore. and Linda Humpage of Portland, Ore.; son, Walter (Bud) Prince of Medford; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Donna Irene "Stauffer" De Rose
Donna Irene "Stauffer" De Rose, 72, of Yreka, Calif., died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Providence Medford Medical Center. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2003, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Rev. Alan Jackson of Westminister Presbyterian Church will officiate.
She was born to Emil and Eva (Culmer) Stauffer on July 13, 1930 in Ashland. On April 7, 1956 in Fallon, Nev., she married Gerald De Rose, who survives. They moved to Yreka in 1956.
Mrs. De Rose was a housewife during her life. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1948. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and camping.
Survivors include, her spouse; three sons, Charles Richard De Rose, of San Jose, Calif., Ronald Wray De Rose of Bend, Ore. and Kevin Louis De Rose of Susanville, Calif.; one brother, Weldon M. Stauffer of Medford; one sister, Rosalie L. LaFleur of Medford; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Earl De Rose in 2000.

Richard A. Goff
Richard A. Goff, 90, of Ashland, died Monday, April 28, 2003 at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

Edythe Mae Eaton
Edythe Mae Eaton, 79, of Medford, died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

Sean Parlaman
Sean Parlaman, 44, a former resident and active community member of Ashland from 1990 to 2001, died on Nov. 23, 2002, in Pattaya, Jomtien, Thailand, after a fall from a high-rise apartment building.
Born in Southern California on Oct. 30, 1958, he grew up in the Antelope Valley. He was a scriptwriter, working on such television shows as "The Wonder Years." He also appeared in several movies, including Mac and Me.
Mr. Parlaman moved to Ashland in 1990 where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1994 from Southern Oregon State College and pursued graduate studies at Southern Oregon University and the University of Oregon. While a student, he was involved in theater, journalism, and filmmaking. He first visited Thailand through an SOSC Global Graduates scholarship and returned to that country many times to visit.
He worked in Ashland as a teacher and journalist and in Medford at Bear Creek Corporation. An enthusiastic supporter of Ashland High School sports, he was active in the booster club and read the half-time sports report at Grizzly football games for several seasons. He also had been avidly involved in martial arts at both the Ashland YMCA and Ashland Champion Karate, where he attained the level of black belt. He was an animal lover and long-time vegetarian.
Before moving to Thailand in 2001, Sean was a member of the South Mountain Friends Meeting and a number of political organizations, including the Pacific Green Party for which he was instrumental in getting the Ashland chapter started. Sean spearheaded the appearance in Ashland of Winona La Duke prior to the 2000 presidential election.
He is survived by his mother Doris, for whom he was a caregiver; a brother, Michael Parlaman, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several nieces.
