Earl Paul Weiss
Part-time Rogue Valley resident, Earl Paul Weiss, 71, of Calabasas, Calif., died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the home of his son in Grants Pass.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Mount Sinai Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles, Calif. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of local arrangements.

He was born March 16, 1932 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from high school in 1950 from P.S. 161 in Brooklyn and graduated from UCLA in 1955. On June 26, 1954 in Sherman Oaks, Calif., he married Barbara Karlin who survives. He had lived in Calabasas for 52 years and was a certified public accountant for Lincoln Place Apartments for 41 years. He spent many months out of the year in the Rogue Valley with his son and his family.
He was a member of the UCLA Foundation, the B'nai B'rith - District 4 - where he served as past president; the Certified Public Accountants Society and he served on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, Calif.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, working crossword puzzles, traveling, attending UCLA sporting events, gardening and playing cards with his buddies.
In addition to his wife Barbara Weiss of Calabasas, survivors include one son, Jeff Weiss of Grants Pass; two daughters, Geri Reisinger of Calabasas and Sheryl Weiss of Woodland Hills, Calif.; a grandson, Keegan Weiss of Grants Pass; daughter-in-law, Kristeen Weiss of Grants Pass; and son-in-law, Jimmy Reisinger of Calabasas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Weiss; his mother, Anna Weiss; and a sister, Barbara Milone.
Ray W. Straw
The funeral for Ray W. Straw will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Pastor Dwayne Robinson of Ashland First Baptist Church will officiate.
Mr. Straw, 84, of Ashland, died Monday (April 14, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.
He was born July 6, 1918, in Philadelphia. On Aug. 3, 1938, in Bel Air, Md., he married Claudine, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975.
Mr. Straw was a real estate broker in Reseda, Calif., and a window treatment salesman at Fashion Floors in Medford.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Pat Froschauer, Ashland; a son, Don, Eagle Point; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Swartz.

Ronna M. Beltran
Ronna M. Beltran, 55, of McHenry, Ill., died Monday April 14, 2003, at Kindred Hospital of Milwaukee in Greenfield, Wisc.
She was born Sept. 14, 1947, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Ronald W. and Rosemary (Martin) Wilber. On Sept. 2, 1967, she married Robert F. Beltran in Syracuse, N.Y.
She was raised in the Syracuse area, attended and graduated from Corcoran High School class of 1966. After High School, she lived in the Pulaski, N.Y. area in the mid 1960s and early 1970s before she moved to Ashland where she lived for 13 years. She worked at Southern Oregon State University in the registrar's office during that time.
She had been a resident of McHenry for 18 years. She enjoyed sea kayaking, sailing, wilderness camping, crocheting and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Robert F. Beltran of McHenry; son, Robert D. Beltran of McHenry; her mother, Rosemary Martin of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; a sister, Nancy Wilber of Charlotte, S.C.; and nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation was today at George R. Justen and Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry, Ill. 60050. A celebration of life will be held at tonight at the funeral home.
Private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Mary L. Cook
Mary L. Cook, 71, of Ashland, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Scott Dalgarno officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society.
Mary L. Cook was born Nov. 9, 1931 in Chicago, Ill. She had been living in Ashland since July of 1970.
She married Ned Cook, who died in 1982, on Dec. 8, 1956 in Elmhurst, Ill. Mary was a graduate of Drake University in Demoine, Iowa.
She was a former flight attendant with American Airlines and a homemaker.
Her hobbies included travel, reading, knitting and tennis. She was a member of the Chapter EE, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Tudor Guild, Ashland Racquet Club and the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include daughters, Cathy Speller of Paris France and Tamara Bryant of Boise, Idaho; son, William Cook of Lafayette, Hills, Penn.; sister, Jane Robins of Elmhurst, Ill.; brother, Warner Whitney of Wheaton, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
Jane Valliant Holmes
Jane Valliant Holmes, 76, of Talent, died Friday, April 11, 2003 at her home in Talent. A private service will be held. Inurnment was held in Phoenix Cemetery. She was born Dec. 1, 1926 in Palo Alto, Calif., the daughter of Stanley and Louise (Clements) Garrett. On July 29, 1983 in Roseville, Calif., she married Peter Ralston Holmes. She moved to Talent from San Jose in April of 2000.
Mrs. Holmes owned and operated a small grocery store and deli in California. She was a member of the P and L Seminar and enjoyed nature, travel, reading, playing cards, people and laughter.
Survivors include her children, Randy Valliant Jones and Linda Louise Jones of Medford, Robert Hamilton Jones and Dana Laree Longwill-Millican of LaHonda, Calif.; brother, William Stanley Garrett; sister Louise Evelyn Garrett-Gautier; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rogue Valley Funeral Alternative and Crematory.
Ralph W. Sikes
Ralph W. Sikes, 90, of Elmira, Ore., died March 16, 2003. No services are planned. Memorial contributions can be made to The Scholarship Fund of the San Juan Masonic Lodge in Friday Harbor, Wash. 98250.
He was born March 6, 1913 in Union, Neb., son of William and Grace (Gerking) Sikes. He graduated from Bayard, Neb., High School. He married ArBelle Anne East on July 3, 1943 in Ingilchrist, Ore. He resided in Ashland from 1933 to 1975, and in Friday Harbor, Wash., from 1975 to 2002.
Ralph was a truck driver in the logging and lumber industries. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and making obsidian arrowheads and knives.
He was a life member and past master of the Masonic Lodges in Ashland and Friday Harbor, Wash. He also drove the senior citizens van in Friday Harbor for 18 years.
Survivors include sons, Robert Sikes of Elmira, Ore. and Donald Sikes of Big Fork, Mont.; daughter, Sandra Franklin of Jacksonville, Ore.; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, ArBelle on April 7, 2001.
