James R. Willson
James R. Willson, 73, of Ashland, died Thursday (May 15, 2003) at Ashland Community Hospital. No services are planned.
He was in the Merchant Marine and was an Army staff sergeant during the Korean War.
He was a longtime employee of PG&E in San Francisco. He moved to Ashland in 1992 from San Francisco. He enjoyed reading military history, ships, old movies and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a son, James Willson-Quayle, Vienna, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Litwiller Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
Eva Jane Humphrey
Eva Jane Humphrey, 83, of White City, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at Medford Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
Phyllis Harrold Sampson
Phyllis Harrold Sampson, formerly of Ashland and Seaside, Ore., passed away May 14, 2003.
Born July 6, 1916, she was a native of Nebraska and was a graduate of Oregon State University and Oregon College of Education.
Ms. Harrold Sampson taught in elementary schools in Ashland and other Oregon communities for many years.
She is survived by her brother, Hal Harrold of La Mesa, Calif.; and sister, Loretta Borges of Dalton, Neb.
Private services and inurnment were held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Portland.
Richard Allen Goff
The memorial service for Richard Allen Goff will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003 in the Cotton Memorial area of Lithia Park in Ashland. Mr. Goff, 90, of Ashland, died April 28, 2003 at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

Wayne R. Paulsen
The memorial service for Wayne Richard Paulsen will be at noon, Monday, May 26, 200,3 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Ashland.
Mr. Paulsen, 69, of Ashland, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at his home.
Ida C. Burns
Ida Cora Burns, 92, of Ashland died at 12:30 a.m., Thursday, May 22 at Ashland Community Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Burns was born Nov. 22, 1910, to Sarah E. and Schuyler Gunter in Ashland. The family moved to Grants Pass in 1922. Mrs. Burns graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1929 and Oregon State University in 1934. She began working that year as librarian at Ashland Junior High School and later accepted a teaching position at Ashland High School.
In June, 1937, she married Ashland resident Philip Lee Burns and moved from the Rogue Valley for eight years before returning to Ashland in 1945.
In 1962 Mrs. Burns returned to teaching at AMS and was Dean of Girls until retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Ashland Pinochle Club, and volunteered at the Ashland Community Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the Ashland Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center.
Mrs. Burns enjoyed travel, camping, gardening, arts and crafts, quilting, and crocheting.
Survivors include five sons, Richard Burns of Roseburg; Bruce Burns of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jerome Burns of Kearneysville, W. Va., Martin Burns of Ashland, and Philip Burns of Orting, Wash; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Clyde, and Merrill Burns; and two sisters, Myra Bailey and Beatrice Cornilsen.

Ronald Bertocchi
A memorial service will be held for Ronald Bertocchi, 63, of Ashland, who died Saturday, March 8, 2003 in Ashland. Marianne O'Sheeran will officiate the memorial which will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Lithia Park next to the upper duck pond.
Mr. Bertocchi was born on September 12, 1939, in San Francisco, the son of John and Estella Bertocchi, who emigrated from Italy to California.
Mr. Bertocchi earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from San Francisco State College and traveled the United States doing art shows after attending Oregon State University in 1969. He began Bertocchi Studios in Keno, Ore. in 1993 and moved to Ashland a year later.
On July 7, 2001, Mr. Bertocchi married Diane Stamper in Ashland.
A master sculptor who depicted works of nature in copper, brass, and bronze, Mr. Bertocchi founded Bertocchi Builders and the Applegate Gallery with family members.
Mr. Bertocchi loved jazz, modern dance, golf and all aspects of nature. He especially appreciated birds, which he depicted in his sculptures.
Mr. Bertocchi was a member of the Ashland Gallery Association and the Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Stamper of Ashland; his sister, Joanne Rice, of Ashland; his daughter Elaine Nelson of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and his son Mark Bertocchi of Medford.
Nancy C. Knox
A memorial service will be held for Nancy C. Knox, 77, of Ashland, who died Thursday, May 22, 2003.
The memorial, officiated by the Rev. Scott Delgarno, will be at the Ashland First Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003.
Mrs. Knox was born April 14, 1926 in Whittier, Calif. There, she married Warren Knox on June 20, 1945. A homemaker and student counselor, Mrs. Knox moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991.
Mrs. Knox enjoyed reading, gardening, bridge, and community service. She was a member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O.) and the Potpourri Luncheon Club.
Survivors include her husband, Warren B. Knox, of Ashland; two sons, Charles W. Knox of Irvine, Calif. and John W. Knox of Boise, Idaho; and her sister, Betty Dingle of Grass Valley, Calif. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lucinda Knox; and her brother Herbert S. Chambers, Jr.
