David Bolitho Nicholas
A private memorial service will be held for David Bolitho Nicholas, 62, of Medford who died Tuesday, June 17, 2003.
Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Home Health and Hospice, 2825 East Barnett Rd. Medford, Ore. 97504.
Mr. Nicholas was born April 14, 1941, in Denver, Colo. to Kenneth and Ethel (Wilkins) Nicholas. He moved to Medford in 1975, where he was active in the Medford YMCA and the Rogue Valley Harmonizers Barbershop Singing Group.
Survivors include his father, Kenneth Nicholas of Medford; and brother, William Nicholas of Ashland; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
Jacqueline (J.J.) Saskia Mijs-Kerr
A memorial for Jacqueline (J.J.) Saskia Mijs-Kerr will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, in Lithia Park above the upper duck pond, past the administration building at Cottonwood Grove.
Those attending are asked to bring a potluck dish to share.
Mrs. Mijs-Kerr, 43, of Ashland, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 in her home.
She was born July 19, 1959 in Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada.
Mrs. Mijs-Kerr enjoyed building relationships and helping those around her. Her spirituality was strongly rooted in an ethic of unconditional love.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Kerr; daughter, Dianne Williams; son Tyler Williams; her parents, Joy and Mike Mijs; her sister Sheri; and three brothers, Michael, Richard, and Anthony.
Arrangements are under the direction of Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Edward H. Collins, 88, of Medford, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of Southern Oregon Cremation Services, Medford.
Catherine Emma "Kay" Nollenberger
Catherine Emma "Kay" Nollenberger, 92, of Ashland died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at a foster home in Ashland. A celebration of her life will be held in the fall.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
She was born Catherine Emma Best on July 16, 1910, in seattle, Wash. In 1944 she married William Edward Nollenberger, who preceded her in death. She lived in Great Falls, Wyo., Calgary, Alberta, Sewanee, Tenn., Calvert, Texas, Fayetteville, Ark., Santa Ana, Modesto, and Berkeley, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979.
Mrs. Nollenberger attended Choinard School of Art.
She worked as a commercial artist during the Depression. She volunteered with many groups working for mental health, cooperatives, and social justice.
Mrs. Nollenberger dedicated her live to working for the peace and human rights movement from its beginning in the 1960s.
She enjoyed a good book a good friend, long walks along Siskiyou and drinks at 4 p.m.
Survivors include a son, Larry, of Ashland; and adopted son, Ron Blair of Eugene; a brother Charles Monroe Best of New York; and two grandchildren.Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Ashland.
Gaylord S. Vestal
Gaylord S. Vestal, 81, of Ashland, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
Rachel Teinert Witt
A funeral service was held today, June 21, 2003, at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Grange, Texas for Rachel Teinert Witt, 89, of La Grange, who died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Care Inn nursing home in La Grange.
Mrs. Witt was born April 18, 1914 in Rabb's Prairie, Texas to Paul Teinert and Pauline (Lehmann) Teinert. She married Carl John Witt on Feb. 7, 1937 in Warda, Texas.
Mrs. Witt was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, La Grange.
Mrs. Witt is survived by two daughters, Pauline Ruder of La Grange, and Lana Witt of Ashland, Ore.; three sisters, Johanna Pietsch of La Grange, Alma Froelich of La Grange, and Louise Wagner of Springdale, Ark.; one brother, Leon Teinert of La Grange; one granddaughter, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Pauline Teinert; her brother, Paul Teinert II; an infant sister; and her husband, Carl John Witt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Preschool, in La Grange.

Martin D. Mulligan
Martin D. Mulligan, Col. USAF Ret., 88, died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Mountain View Retirement Residence, Ashland. Arrangements are under the direction of Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
Adrien Pierre Barats
Adrien Pierre Barats, 75, of Ashland died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at his residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
Martin Doyle Mulligan
Colonel Martin Doyle Mulligan, USAF Ret., died at his home in Ashland on Saturday, June 21, 2003. Born on December 19, 1914 in The Dalles, Ore., he was the son of the late Martin Henry Mulligan and Emma Van Hoy Mulligan.
He grew up in Oregon City, Ore. and graduated from Oregon City High School in 1934. He then attended University of Oregon, where he majored in architecture.
In 1940 he entered Flying Cadet Training and received his wings and commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas in 1941. Subsequently he was assigned to Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Ariz. as an instructor pilot, later becoming director of flight training during World War II.
Later assignments included the Philippine Islands, Randolph Air Force Base, where he became advanced flying training commander, Rome, Italy, Alaska, California and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. His last assignment in the Air Force was as Commander of the Air Defense Control Center and Joint Air Reconnaissance Control Center in Key West, Fla., where he retired in October 1966.
Upon retirement he and his family moved to Portland, Ore. where he and his wife lived until moving to Ashland in 1998.
Col. Mulligan was a rated Command Pilot with over 5, 000 flying hours in conventional and jet aircraft.
He was awarded the following medals: Air Force Commendation Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with five oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, the Retired Officers Association, Order of the Daedalians, a charter member of the Air Force Academy Athletic Association, and the Elks Lodge.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Steelheaders Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Mulligan of Ashland; daughters, Patricia Baker of Washington, DC, and Colleen Dumont of Ashland; sister, June Nachand of Bend, Ore.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A sister, Mary Gilman, of Portland, preceded him in death.
No formal services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Medford Medical Center Foundation, Providence Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Avenue, Medford, Ore. 97504.
