Shayla Briner
Shayla Briner, 62, of Ashland, died on her birthday, Monday, June 23, 2003.
She was born June, 23, 1941.
Mrs. Briner received her art degree from Southern Oregon University and produced original tie-dye designs on clothing which she sold at Lithia Artisan's Market. She was also a member of the Lithia Artisan's Guild. She assisted immigrants in need in Arizona and traveled to Mexico to teach English. She loved the language, the people, and her students in Mexico.
Survivors include one daughter, Melanie of Portland; her brother, David of Arcata, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at 7 p.m. at Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain Ave., of which she was a founding member. All are welcome.
Those attending are encouraged to wear tie-dye clothing and bring a dessert or snack to share.
Marie Allred Fisher Bradford
Marie Allred Fisher Bradford, 76, formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in Mapleton, Utah.
Mrs. Bradford was born February 26, 1927 in Lehi, Utah. In 1951 she married Dean Fred Fisher in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised their 6 sons and 2 daughters in Ashland before retiring to Mapleton, Utah in 1991.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many positions, including working as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple, as well as performing missionary work.
In 2000, she married Henry W. Bradford in the Provo Temple. Mr. Bradford cared for her during her struggle with cancer.
Survivors include Mr. Bradford, 7 children, 31 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were slated today in the Mapleton, Utah, North Stake Center. She will be interred at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
Marjorie Jo Clark
Marjorie Jo Clark, 62, of Medford, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
Charles S. Tilton
Charles S. Tilton, 94, of Chapel Hill, N.C. died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Carol Woods Retirement Community Health Center in Chapel Hill where he had resided since 1979. His wife, Lois Joy Hanson Tilton, also of the Carol Woods Retirement Community preceded him in death in 1984. Both were members of the Chapel of the Cross, Chapel Hill.
Mr. Tilton was born March 8, 1909 in Ashland, Ore., the son of Charles F. Tilton. He was educated in the Oregon public schools and graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in electrical engineering in 1930. At OSU he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi (scholastic honorary), Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Tau and Etta Kappa Nu (engineering honoraries), and Beta Theta Pi (social fraternity). He later attended the graduate schools of OSU, M.I.T., Harvard, and Tufts Universities. During the 1930s he was employed by the Bell Telephone Laboratories, N.Y., the Western Electric Company, N.J., and as vice principal of Klamath Falls High School, Ore. In 1946 Mr. Tilton joined the staff of the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories in Bedford, Mass. where he engaged in the development of vehicles and instrumentation of geophysics of the atmosphere and space research. He was the director of the Balloon Development Laboratory and senior engineer for the Aerospace Instrumentation Laboratory.
Mr. Tilton entered the Navy in 1942 and was Officer-in Charge of electronics training at the Philadelphia Navy Shipyard before his discharge in 1946 as Lieutenant Commander. He continued in the Naval Reserve Research Program in Boston, Mass. where he achieved the rank of Captain in 1959. He retired as a staff member in 1969. He was a member of Sigma Xi and the Scientific Research Society and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Following his retirement from the Air Force Laboratory in 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Tilton moved from their Arlington, Mass. home to Sanford, N.C. until moving to Carol Woods in 1979.
Survivors include one daughter, Grace Tilton Cuttino; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003, at The Chapel of the Cross, Chapel Hill. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home prior to the services.
Memorials may be made to the South orange Rescue Squad, Chapel Hill or the American Cancer Society.

Roy M. Martin and Wenidy E. Martin
The memorial service for Roy M. Martin and Wendy E. Martin will be at 2:30 p.m., July 27, 2003 at the Cotton Memorial picnic area in Ashland's Lithia Park.

Roy Martin, 49, and Wendy Martin, 51, of Salem, formerly of Ashland, died May 26, 2003, in a car accident near Tyler, Texas.

Ellen T. Stevens
A memorial service for Ellen Taylor Stevens will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church, Ashland. Pastor Scott Delgarno of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. A private family inurnment will be at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.
Mrs. Stevens, 69, of Ashland, died Monday, July 7, 2003 at her home.

She was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Mobile, Ala., to Ellen and William Taylor Jr. She graduated from Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tenn., in 1951, and attended East Tennessee State University. On Nov. 23, 1954, in Wiesboden, Germany, she married John Rodney "Rod" Stevens, who survives. Following Mr. Stevens' career as a U.S. Army officer in the Corps of Engineers, and five years in Steamboat Springs, Colo., the family moved to Ashland in 1976.
Mrs. Stevens was involved in the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter EE of the PEO Sisterhood, the Tudor Guild, Fortnightly Study Club and other small groups.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Laura Williamson, Lake Oswego, and Libby Hughes, North Bend; a son, John R. Stevens Jr., Portland; a sister, Lee Taylor Thomas, Portland; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
