John H. Lewis
Private family services are planned for John Henry Lewis, 79, of Ashland, who died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 10, 1923 at Hueysville, Ky., the son of Zetta and John Lewis. Mr. Lewis was raised in Kentucky and joined the Army in 1942. He served a total of 22 years. During his military career, he served in Word War II, the Korean Conflict and was recalled to serve in the Vietnam War. He was trapped behind enemy lines and received several military honors.
On July 14, 1950, at Spanaway Park, Wash., he married Lorraine Elizabeth Ellis who preceded him in death. They moved to Ashland in 1984 and Mr. Lewis worked for the Linda Vista Care Center as a maintenance supervisor. During his wife's extended illness, he provided full time health care until her death.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Surviving are: two sons, Joseph K. Lewis and Verin Lewis both of Ashland; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

John Holmes Pine
Former Talent resident John Holmes Pine died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2003 in Corvallis. He was 55.
Friends will gather for a remembrance at 6 tonight at 1388 Frank Hill Rd. in Ashland. No funeral services are planned.
Mr. Pine was born Sept. 25, 1947 in Danville, Ill. to Ted and Jean (Holmes) Pine.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-69. He was an avid golfer and during high school was an excellent tennis player, competing in the Ohio State Tournament as a semi-finalist.
Mr. Pine worked on ocean-going tug boats, working up to a captain before retiring and attending Southern Oregon University and graduating. He also served on the Talent Planning Commission. He moved to Corvallis where he worked at OSU as a graduate assistant and attended post-graduate school.
Survivors include his parents of Montclair, N.J.; and brothers Phillip of Flower Mound, Texas and Theodore of Norwich, Vt.
Arrangements are in care of DeMoss Durdan Funeral Home, Corvallis.
Mildred Lorell Wellman
The funeral service for Mildred L. Wellman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home , Ashland. Interment will follow in Scenic Hills memorial Park, Ashland. Friends may call the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home tonight from 5 to 7.
Mildred L. Wellman, 87, formerly of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003 at Beverly Health Care Center, Federal Way, Wash.
Mrs. Wellman was born April 30, 1915 at Muhlenberg, Ky. To David McPherson and the former Arthula Baugh. She served in the US Army during W.W. II as a registered nurse. On Dec. 2, 1950 in Fairbanks, Alaska, she married Frank L. Wellman. She lived in Alaska from 1948 to 1973, when she and Mr. Wellman moved to Ashland. In 2002, she moved to Federal Way, Wash.
While in Alaska, she was a member of the Pioneers Igloo #8 in Fairbanks. After moving to Ashland, she was very active in the Ashland Elks Lodge #944, serving as president of the Elkettes. She was an avid gardener and bowler. She also volunteered her services as a private duty nurse for friends and community. She was a seamstress and operated Mickey's Alternations in Ashland.
Survivors include her son, David A. Wellman of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughters, Gloria Jean Faddis of Fairbanks, Alaska and Michelle and her husband Rick Crisp of Pacific, Wash.; her son-in-law, Ted DeLeon of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven grandchildren, Stacey Allen of Puyallup, Wash. Christopher DeLeon of North Pole, Alaska, Shad Palatino of Ashland, Rodney and Damien Wellman of Pacific, Wash. And Ricky Crisp Jr. and Alicia Crisp of Pacific, Wash.; one great granddaughter, Kaleigh Lorill DeLeon of North Pole, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her faithful husband, Frank, on Nov. 2, 1998 and by her daughter, Nancy DeLeon in June 2001.

Ellwood Warren Flock
Ellwood Warren Flock, 82, of Central Point, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Medford. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at West Main Church of Christ, 1701 W. Main St., Medford with Truman Scott officiating. Memorial contributions can be given to West Main Church of Christ building fund.
Ellwood Flock was born Dec. 31, 1920 in Fruitland, Idaho to Earl and Vaye Flock. He lived in Rogue Valley since October 1976.
On Aug. 19, 1944 in Fredricksburg, Va., he married EEthel Naomi (Dart) Flock.
Mr. Flock attended Pepperdine University from 1939 to 1940 and 1942 to 43. Then he attended Occidental College from 1943 to 1944. He worked for the State of Oregon Employment Division and retired in 1980.
His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, hunting and roses. He was a member of the Elder at West Main Church of Christ.
Mr. Flock also served in the US Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 and from 1950 to 1953. He was in service a total of ten years including reserve.
Survivors include his wife, EEthel Naomi Flock of Central Point; daughters, Marlene V. Kilpatrick of LaGrande, Ore., Beth Flock of Eugene, Ore. and Kathleen Bisenius of Redmond, Ore.; sons, Ronald W. Flock of Bremerton, Wash and Gerald E. Flock of Central Point; brother, F. Verne Flock of Boise, Idaho; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Vaye Flock.

Shirley Koozin
Shirley Koozin, 63, of Ashland, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at the Ashland Community Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at V.A. Cemetery, Eagle Point. Jim Larsen of the Christian Church of Ashland will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to an organization of your choice.
Shirley Koozin was born June 9, 1939 in Napa, Calif. to George and Helen Davis. She lived in Ashland since August 1982. On April 5, 1958, she married Harry B. Rountree; he died June 30, 1978. On Sept. 12, 1981 in Reno, Nev., she married LeLand J. Koozin; he died Dec. 14, 1990.
In 1957, Placeville, Calif., Shirley graduated from high school. She was a housewife. One of her favorite hobbies was bowling. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Rogue Valley Women's Bowling Association.
Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth Kanihan of Marysville, Calif. and Marianne Taylor of Talent; sons, Harry M. Rountree of Ashland and Donald Rountree of Sparta, Ill.; sister, Barbara Cassidy of Roseburg, Ore.; brother, Dale Davis of Ashland; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry B. Rountree and LeLand J. Koozins; and sister, Helen Healy.

Robert Kimball
Robert Kimball, 78, of Talent, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003.
