Alberta F. Oliver
October 21, 1917 - April 16, 2008

Alberta F. Oliver, age 90, of Sweet Home passed away Wednesday. She was born in Agra, Oklahoma to Marlan and Olive (Dobson) Inman.

She lived in various places including Napa, California, for fifty years. She moved to Oregon in 2004.

Alberta contributed to St. Helens Roman Catholic Church due to her respect for Rev. Father Henry Rufo.

She loved travel, reading, gambling, and old family photo albums.

Alberta is survived by her children, Russel and Joann; siblings, Hazel, Ester, Lora, Pauline, Doris, and Dorothy; 17 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Harry; children, Eugene, Rose, and Betty; siblings, and Tom and Earl.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Helens Roman Catholic Church Christmas Gift Baskets, 600 Sixth Avenue, Sweet Home, Oregon 97386.

Final burial will be at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa, California. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Norman F. Jimmerson
November 24, 1938 - April 24, 2008

Norman F. Jimmerson, age 69, of Sweet Home passed away Thursday. He was born in Salem, Oregon to John T. and Vernice E. (Theurer) Jimmerson.

Before joining the US Navy, Norman moved to Hoskins, Oregon, and then to Corvallis. Norman served at many naval stations, including Portland, Oregon, Long Beach, California, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He moved to Maryland after the Navy in 1974, and then on to Jefferson in 1985. Finally, he moved to Sweet Home in 1989 where he continued to reside with his wife, until he passed away April 24.

Norman enlisted in the Navy on July 3, 1956. His occupation was clerical/stenographer. He served at the USS Mansfield from 1956 to 1959, then transfered to Flag allowance, CINCPACFLT, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 1959 to 1963. After that, he transfered to the USS Brinkley Base and served there from 1963 to 1970, receiving an honorable discharge. Norman then served in the US Navy Reserve from 1970 until his retirement from the US Navy after 30 years of active/inactive service, March 1, 1986, as a Chief Petty Officer (E7).

Awards and medals that he earned during his service were: Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Defense Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Certificate (3 times awarded).

Norman served in the Military Order of the COOTIE of the United States. Positions included: Pup tent #20 seam squirrel, All-star Grand Adjutant, during 1999-2000 as Outstanding CCDB, Past Grand Commander 2002- 2004, All-Star Grand Commander 2003 - 2004. For two succeeding years, he also served in the VFW Post 3437. He served as an All State District 14 Commander and All-state Post Commander.

Norman worked with the Maryland Department of Transportation with the State Highway Administration in 1978. In 1979, he worked for the Wallace Security Agency, Inc. He has also worked as a postal carrier and was self employed as a truck driver from 1980 until his retirement in 1990.

He liked to build things, including woodwork. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, traveling, and serving in the VFW and COOTIES.

Norman is survived by his wife Elizabeth K. Jimmerson of Sweet Home; stepchildren Larry (Carol) Larison Jr., Elizabeth (Mark) Elia, Patricia (Jello) Nice, David (Tami) Larison, Donna Larison, Tamella Jones, Sheryl (Valaunga) Siatunuu, and Rosa (Bryan) Quinones, all from Oregon; step-mother Ellen G. Jimmerson of Oregon; siblings James Jimmerson, Gene Jimmerson, Mike Jimmerson, Robert Jimmerson, and Pat Jimmerson, all Oregon residents; Larry Jimmerson of Texas, Judy of Oregon, Mary of Wisconsin, Margie of Texas, Sherilyn (Robert) Foley, Sr., of Oregon, Chester (Yvonne) Irving of Washington, and Janet (Ron) of Eldridge, Oregon; father and mother-in-law William Lamont and Geneive Irving of Oregon; 27 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Alta Young, in 1974; father, John T. Jimmerson, in 1983; mother, Vernice E. Theurer-Jimmerson, in 1944; and brothers, Marvin and Glenn Jimmerson.

Viewing will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 1, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 2, at Sweet Home Evangelical Church. His final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Reception preceeding at local VFW-Post 3437. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling services.

Eva Annetta Cleland
December 9, 1917 - April 26, 2008

Eva Annetta Cleland, age 90, of Sweet Home passed away Saturday. She was born in Newell, South Dakota to John and Tjodie (Duit) Ubben.

Not long after she was born, her family moved to Presho, where she went to elementary school and graduated from high school. After graduating from high school, she went to Aberdeen, where she received her teaching degree. She then moved to Oacoma for a teaching position, and while there, met her husband, Clifford Cleland.

Annetta and Clifford married and had two sons, John and Roger. They continued to live in Oacoma until 1943, and then they moved to Willow Brook, California, eventually buying a home in Long Beach, California. Her husband passed away in 1969. She continued to live in Long Beach until 1996, when she moved to Sweet Home to be near family.

She enjoyed doiing needlepoint counted cross stitch, Brazilian embroidery, regular embroidery, and crocheting. She made afghans through the years for gifts. She was active in the church and sang in the choir for many years.

Annetta is survived by her sons, John Cleland and Roger Cleland; brothers, John Ubben of Missouri and Dean Ubben of California; and many grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Cleland, and a baby sister.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling services.

Beatta Edna Stevahn
September 9, 1925 - April 27, 2008

Beatta Edna Stevahn, age 82, of Sweet Home passed away Sunday. She was born in Leith, North Dakota to Reinhold and Ida (Martell) Stevahn.

She came to Oregon as a young woman and lived in Portland. She battled heart disease and later Alzheimer’s. Beatta came to Sweet Home in 2003 to be closer to family.

Beatta attended Bethel Lutheran Church in Sweet Home. She was very involved in her religion throughout her life. She was very talented at crochet and was a stay-at-home mom.

Beatta is survived by daughters, Linda Mulvanny of Sweet Home and Karen Grosnicoles of Gresham; brothers, Leo and Reiny Stevahn; sisters, Ruth Blanset, Ina Pekas, and Leona Amonn; ten grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by sons, Robert Elavsky and Curtis Cole, and two sisters.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Catherine J. Brocard
June 24, 1929 - April 28, 2008

Catherine Julia Brocard, age 78, of Sweet Home passed away Monday at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Edgar and Julia (Kresky) Dunn.

Catherine graduated from Metuchen High School in 1947. She lived in New Jersey until 1971, and then moved to Sweet Home.

She worked for Oliver Mahinery Co., in New York, and then for Johnson & Johnson as a personal secretary to the excutive in charge of the paper division.

She married Joseph W. Brocard in 1951, and they built a house in Belle Mead, New Jersey in 1957. She worked at the carrier clinic from 1967-1971.

After moving to Sweet Home, she worked for Willamette Industries until retiring in 1991.

Catherine loved gardening and taking care of the apple orchard. She also enjoyed geneology and square dancing and was a member of the Home Orchard Society. She was a wonderful cook and everyone always enjoyed eating her apple pies.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Brocard; son, Joe, and his wife, Nancy Brocard, of Sweet Home; daughter, Karen, and her husband, Rick Flickinger, of Albany; and four granddaughters.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edgar Dunn; and sister, Theresa VanZandt.

Viewing will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 1st, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 2nd, also at the church. A private burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Home Orchard Society or the OSU Extension Service, c/o Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, 1443 Long Street, Sweet Home, OR 97386.

Ted Brenner, Jr.
April 2, 1949 - December 19, 2006

Ted Brenner, Jr., 57, of Sweet Home, passed away on Tuesday. He was born in San Diego, California to Theodore Sr., and Myrtle Brenner.

Ted liked shooting guns, auto body restoration, and weight lifting.

Ted is survived by his mother, Myrtle Brenner; his brothers, Darrell and Allen; his sisters, Bernice, Sue, and Pam; two daughters, Michele and Cynthia; two sons, Ted III and Ken; former wife, Phyllis; and three grandchildren, Mariah, Marrissa, and Micha.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Sr., and his brothers, Fran and Jerry.

Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
