Gordon A. Mengore
June 14, 1925 - April 7, 2008
Gordon Mengore, age 82, of Sweet Home passed away Monday. He was born in Negaunee, Michigan to Anton and Lilly (Lampry) Mengore.
During his life, he lived in Michigan, Butte, Montana, and Sweet Home, Oregon. He lived in Sweet Home for 43 years.
Gordon served in the US Navy as a Seaman on the USS Wichita and the USS Boise in WWII. Afterwards, he worked as a miner in Michigan and Butte, Montana, and as a construction worker all of his life. He worked on building the Foster, Green Peter, and Blue River dams.
He was baptized as a Catholic.
He loved gold panning, fishing, playing cribbage, dancing, rock collecting, and wine making.
Gordon is survived by his two sons, Joe G. Mengore and David M. Mengore; two daughters, Karen L. Mengore-McCracken and Robin Partelow; sister, Margaret Rickenback of Detroit, Michigan; nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Final burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
Robert Dean Meyers
March 23, 1964 - April 7, 2008
Robert Dean Meyers, age 44, of Sweet Home passed away Monday, April 7, surrounded by family. He was born in Eureka, California to Richard and Collette (Courtnier) Meyers. His family moved to Sweet Home in 1970.
He attended Hawthorn Elementary School and graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1982. Baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972 and served an LDS Church mission in 1983 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Robert married Debra Gorecki September 5, 1985 in the Seattle LDS Temple.
He was a very avid scouter in Boy Scouts of America, involving his immediate family as scouts and assistants. Extremely encouraging to all his scouts, he taught them leadership, responsiblity, and acceptance of others through his example. He was an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver, a member of the Order of the Arrow, SERCA, a multiple merit badges counselor, a den leader, a Webelo leader, a Boy Scout, a Venture crew advisor, and a trainer for all Scouting positions. He also served as Assistant District Commisioner, Roundtable Trainer, and Pack Committee Chairman. He was involved with the Scouting for Food, Goodwill/Good Turn, and pinewood derby events, and was a district awards committee member. Robert also helped begin the Calapooia Cub Scout Lock-In.
Roberts interests were family, drama, theater, speech, architecture (both residential and commercial), camping, old movies, especially “classic comedy and musicals,” Shakespeare, roses, all music (he workedd as a DJ for KFIR in his youth), handmade gifts, history, pets, and medieval topics, including “castles, swords, and dragons.”
Robert was diagnosed with ALS 15 and a half years ago. He always persevered and made the best of things. He always had patience with himself, the disease and those around him.
Robert grew up around Disney and loved Disney things as an adult. His favorite character was Dopey, and Goofy wasn’t too bad either. He was a perfect husband and daddy with an incredible sense of humor and an instant connection with people. He was a kind and caring person who had a special way of making people feel special and loved. He hated argyle patterns on things and peas.
Robert is survived by his wife, Debra, and children, Amber, Evan, and Lena Meyers, all of Sweet Home; father and mother, Richard and Collette, of Sweet Home; siblings, Richard and wife, Wanda Meyers, of Cottage Grove, Raymond and wife, Diana Meyers, Chantel and husband, Travis Carr, of Sweet Home, Chanae and husband, Tom Craig, of Belfont, Pennsylvania, Ryan of Lebanon, Rolan of Sweet Home, Randy, currently serving an LDS Church mission in Belize, El Salvador, Chaunte, Reed, Rory, Reece, Candace, and Calleigh Meyers, all of Sweet Home; grandmother, Norma Jean Courtnier, of Santa Paula, California; aunt Carol and Uncle Dennell Zander of McMinnville, Oregon; nieces and nephews, Carson, currently serving an LDS Church mission in Virginia, Rebecca, Rachel, and Emma Meyers, of Cottage Grove, Travie, Trevor, and Lacey Carr, of Sweet Home; and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Harvey and Dorothy Meyers, and grandfather, Carroll Courtnier, aunt, Marge Welch, and uncle, Douglas Courtnier.
Memorial Contributions can be made to his children’s education fund at Linn-Co Federal Credit Union.
Funeral Services will be at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lebanon, Oregon. Services will conclude at the church. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel handled arrangements

Allyn H. Maycumber
April 18, 1921 - April 8, 2008
Allyn H. Maycumber, age 86, passed away Tuesday. He was born in Fairview, Oregon to Almo Albright and Rebecca (Henry) Maycumber.
Allyn was in the Navy as a First Class Naval Aviation Metal Smith from 1944-1948; during WWII. He worked as a Saw Filer at Willamette Industries.
Allyn loved motorcycles, hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling the United States.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Maycumber, of Sweet Home, daughter, Teena Emerson, of Philomath, Oregon, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Allyn was preceded in death by daughter, Marla Kintigh, May 27, 1993.

Ervin E. Reynolds
June 22, 1942 - April 13, 2008
Ervin E. Reynolds, age 65, of Sweet Home passed away Sunday at Lebanon Community Hospital. He was born in Hillsboro to David and Versie (Carter) Reynolds.
Ervin graduated from Sweet Home High School. He worked in mills up to the time he retired. He loved to hunt, fish, and take drives up to the Quartzville area.
Ervin married Lorna Klassert on February 25, 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna; daughter, Shellee Eberhard; and step grandson, Alex, of Astoria; brother,. Everett Reynolds, of Sweet Home; and many neices and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Leatrice L. Erickson
December 19, 1938 - April 15, 2008
Leatrice Louise Erickson, age 69, of Sweet Home lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Garrison, North Dakota and raised by Francis and Louise (Ehmann) Swanson.
Leatrice enjoyed ebroidery, working in her flower gardens, and reading. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Leatrice especially loved holidays when her loved ones would gather together to enjoy each other's’ company. She cherished her dogs Sandy, Sissy, Hannah, and Abby.
Over Leatrice’s lifetime, she spent 24 years employed at Smurfit Newsprint in Sweet Home. After retirement, she spent her time caring for her grandchildren.
Leatrice is and will always be known to her family and friends as a strong, dependable, loving person that gave it her all to the last day. Her body may be gone, but the memories that she left will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Delaine Erickson Sr.; daughters, Lorna Chillas and husband, Jeff, of Redding, CA, Linda Erickson of Redding, CA, Tammy Grizzle and husband, Leon, of Sweet Home, and Julie Philpot and husband, Rick, of Lebanon; son, DeLaine Erickson Jr. and wife, Brandi, of Sweet Home; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers Vernon Gohl and his wife, Carol, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Mark Swanson and wife, Lori, of Salt Lake City, UT; step-brothers, Larry Swanson and wife, Ann, of Napa, ID, Bruce Swanson and wife, Susan, of Plains, MT, and Leland Swanson and wife, Norene, of Boulder, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by Francis and Louise Swanson, Fred Gohl, brother, Harold Ehmann, and step brother, Elliott Swanson.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 18th, at Gilliland Cemetery. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Mary L. Hufford-Hollingsworth
September 8, 1925 - April 15, 2008
Mary Louise Hufford-Hollingsworth, age 82, of Sweet Home passed away Tuesday at her home. She was born in Cromwell, Oklahoma to Leonard E. and Lucille A. (Calvert) Thornbrugh.
In 1939, she moved with her parents and siblings, Pauline, Ele, and Nina, to Sweet Home. Mary graduated from Sweet Home Union High School. On June 19, 1945, she married Frank C. Hufford. Frank died June 20, 1998. Mary married Neal Hollingsworth in 1999.
Mary was involved in the Riverside Christian Church in many ways. She bought “Upper Room” daily devotionals for the church and supplied “Pockets” magazines for the Youth group. For the missions, she made ink pens with flowers attached on the top and sold them to raise money.
Mary enjoyed knitting with a knitting machine, she crocheted many things including baby blankets, sun-catchers, and swans. She made sugar-free and regular pies for everyone. “Mom’s pies fix everything.” Mary played Bingo on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Vets Club. On Thursdays, she played cards with her friends. She was a Lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW and the American Legion.
She and Neal attended dances two or three times per week. They also traveled the United States and Canada.
She is survived by her husband, Neal Hollingsworth; children, Steve and wife, Patsy, Hufford of Lake Dallas, Texas, Kay and husband, Joe, Clark of Sweet Home, Mike Hufford of Sweet Home, and Carol and husband, Del, Hollingsworth of Lebanon; 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister, Nina, and husband, Mel, Gosser; and brother, Ele, and wife, Lucille, Thornbrugh, both of Eugene.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank C. Hufford, her parents, and sister, Pauline Morgan.
Viewing will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 18th, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19th, at 18th and Long Church of Christ. Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery.
