Artis Gadsby
November 18, 1955 - March 26, 2007

Artis Adell Gadsby, 51, of Sweet Home, died Monday. She was born in Gorman, Texas, the daughter of Artie and Mozelle (Beaty) Taber.

Artis grew up in Texas. She was a loving mother to her to boys. She married Doug Gadsby later in life. They came to Sweet Home in 1995.

She is survived by husband, Doug Gadsby; children, Chad Lay and Jason Lay; sister, Kay Brown; and brothers, Herb Taber and Dolan Taber.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home at 101 S. Ave. D in Burkburnett, TX 76354, (940) 569-3361. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.

Mary Jane Martinez Tinsley
March 19, 1955 - March 28, 2007

Mary Jane Martinez Tinsley, 52, of Sweet Home died Wednesday. She was born to Henry and Chris (Childers) Tinsley in St. Charles, Michigan.

Mary moved to Oregon in 1966 from California. She lived in Halsey and Brownsville, but settled in Sweet Home. She was an employee of BPOE of Sweet Home since 1972. She attended Brownsville Assembly of God. She enjoyed shopping and camping.

She is survived by companion, Kirk Smith; mother, Chris Childers; father, Henry Tinsley; step fathers, Victor “Bud” Childers and Leonard Thompson; sisters, Francis “Frankie” Vega, Henrietta Thompson, Patty Stafford, Debbie Thompson; brothers, James Tinsley, Lonnie Thompson, Ray Thompson; sons, Travis Stitzel of Albany, PJ Stitzel of Salem; and grandsons, Jacob and Zachary Stitzel.

Mary was preceded in death by father, Henry Tinsley, in 1956 and brother, Ronnie Thompson, in 1960.

Memorial Service will be Saturday March 31 at 1 pm at Pioneer Park in Brownsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Martinez Tinsley Funeral Fund, c/o Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, 1443 Long Street. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.

William "Bill" Duane Partch
April 23, 1924 - February 3, 2007

William “Bill” Duane Partch, 82, of Sweet Home died Saturday. He was born to Elmer and Cecile Partch in Castle Rock, Washington.

Bill moved to Sweet Home as a young boy and attended Sweet Home area schools. He served for 3 1/2 years in the Army during WWII. He was a logger in the local area his whole life. Jan. 8, 1997 he married Helen Deckard.

He is survived by step child, Lori Palmer; grandchildren, Jody William, Oma Winter, Sherry Thein, and Melissa Wassel; great-great-grandchildren, Autumn, Christopher, Sherry, Josh, Jordan, Nick, and Sherriah; Aunt Debbi; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by wife, Helen Partch, and sister, “Denny”.

Services will be Wednesday, April 4, at 2 pm at Gilliland Cemetery. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.

Charles "Frank" Rice
August 12, 1928 - April 3, 2007

Frank rejoices in the presence of the Lord after a lengthy struggle with Kidney Disease. His last days were spent at home receiving loving care from his wife, Susan, and the watchful eye of his furry companion, Zeke.

He was born in Georgetown, IL, the son of Frank and Ino (Ramsey) Rice. Frank served in the US Army, 40th Infantry Division, during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952.

Frank retired from AT&T in 1987 after 34 years. At that time the family relocated from Illinois to Phoenix, AZ. In 2002, a move to Sweet Home from Camp Verde, AZ was necessary due to health needs. He and his wife became active members of the Sweet Home Evangelical Church, and he continued his activities with his Kiwanis Club.

His many interests included woodworking, motorcycling, gardening, reading—loved his bible, and traveling. In the past few years his health prevented his one true enjoyment... motorcycling. Susan was a source of encouragement to help him attain optimum enjoyment of life.

Frank was a kind, soft-spoken, gentle, Godly man, and had an impish grin that made you wonder what he was thinking. He loved his family and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife, Susan of 24 years; sons, Tim and wife Nancy of Pleasant Plains, IL, Tad and wife Vicki of Springfield, IL; daughters, Sheila and husband Rick of Ramona, CA, Amanda and husband Ted of Phoenix, AZ; three grandsons and three granddaughters. Parents had preceded Frank in death.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 14th, at the Sweet Home Evangelical Church located at 1347 Long Street.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice c/o Sweet Home Funeral Chapel located at 1443 Long Street. Remembrances to the family may be mailed to PO Box 141 Sweet Home, OR 97386. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

John Francis Seward
April 6, 2007

John Francis Seward, 29, of Sweet Home, died Monday, April 6, 2007. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Merle L. Loven
June 18, 1923 - April 10, 2007

Merle “Cowboy” Loven, 83, of Lebanon, died Tuesday. He was born to James and Elsie (Breed) Loven in Rockford, Illinois, where he lived most of his life.

Cowboy served in Germany during WWII. Upon his return, he worked for the City of Rockford in construction of water mains. He came to Oregon in 1983 and worked in rodeos as a trick roper. He loved westerns and was in The Wild West Show in his younger years. He lived at Holly’s Haven for the past nine months.

Cowboy was survived by his long time girlfriend, Joanne Simmonds of Lebanon; three children of Rockford, Illinois; a brother, a sister, and a half-brother, all of Illinois; and the residents and caregivers at Holly’s Haven of Lebanon.

Final interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.

Patricia Pitts Maynard Baker
July 2, 1944 - April 14, 2007

Patricia "Pat" (Pitts Maynard) Baker, 62, of Albany died on Saturday April 14, 2007.

She was born July 2, 1944 in Kansas, the daughter of George Albert and Leta M. (Hand) Pitts. She came with her family out west in 1947. She attended schools in Foster and Crawfordsville.

Pat married young and raised three children while living in Crawfordsvile. That marriage ended later in divorce. Pat has been married the last 20 years to Donald Baker, living in Albany seventeen of those years.

Pat enjoyed garage sale-ing and getting out. Don deeply loved her and pushed her wheelchair anywhere she and he wanted to go. Pat also enjoyed getting her family together and was a great cook. She loved jewelry and the little things in life. Her last days were spent as trips to and from dialysis with her husband Don. Pat's greatest joys came from spending time with her granddaughter, Shannon Patricia.

Pat is survived by sons, Jim Maynard of Corvallis, and Danny Maynard Albany; daughter, Lesley Maynard of Sweet Home; mother, Leta M. Pitts; brothers, Tom Pitts of Lebanon, Ed Pitts Sweet Home, and Steve Pitts of Albany; sister, Peggy Dain of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, George Albert Pitts.

Viewing will be 4:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, April 18th, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, April 19th, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy Mae Thomas
December 4, 1925 - April 22, 2007

Dorothy M. (Neal) Thomas, 81, of Sweet Home, died Sunday April 22, 2007 at The Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. She was born in Elmira, OR, the daughter of Elmer and Veleta (Deadman) Neal.

She was a life-long Oregon resident, living in Eugene and later raising her daughter in Sweet Home. She enjoyed hunting all her life. She was already thinking of what tags to put in for next year.

Dorothy is survived by son-in-law, Derrell W. Larsen, Sr.; grandsons, Derrell W. Larsen, Jr., Harold Larsen, and Andrew Larsen; granddaughter, Suzan Sexson; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by daughter, Hazel Larsen; husband, Woodrow W. Thomas; seven brothers, and one sister.

No Services are planned at this date. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Kenneth “Tate” Gene Umphress
June 20, 1983 - February 12, 2007

Kenneth “Tate” Gene Umphress, 23, of Lebanon died Monday. He was born to Tim and Darlene (Jones) Umphress in Uplin, California.

Kenneth moved to Crawfordsville in 1983. He lived in Bullhead City, Arizona in 1987, and Lebanon since 2001. Kenneth lived on his own since 2003. He liked to barter and make deals; a trait taken after his father.

He is survived by parents, Tim and Darlene Umphress of Lebanon; brothers, Nicholes Umphress of Arizona, and Joseph Umphress and Gerad Romero of Lebanon; sisters, Ashley and Brittany Romero of Lebanon; grandmother, Betty Jones; and husband, Earl of Sweet Home; and grandmother, Nona Evans of Albany.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Umphress.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
