James H. Williams

James Harold Williams, 81, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 17, 1997) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Houston, Miss.On Dec. 5, 1936, in Reno, he married Joan M. Hayes, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 30 years ago from California.

Mr. Williams owned and operated auto sales lots in California. He was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club and The Oregon Club. He enjoyed antiques and restoring old houses.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Ronald James, Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Julian E., Mill Valley,Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives Alder Creek.

Barbara B. Cohee

Barbara B. Cohee, 73, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 19, 1997) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. She was born Barbara Benson on Sept. 19, 1924, in Alhambra, Calif.

On July 24, 1944, in San Marino, Calif., she married William L. Cohee, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987 from Santa Ana, Calif.

She enjoyed golfing.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Kent W., Medford, and Stephen B., Sacramento, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Bill Acker

The funeral for Milton Ernest "Bill" Acker will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Sunset Vista Funeral Home in Yuma, Ariz. Chaplain Carroll Harkness will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Vista Cemetery.

Mr. Acker, 93, formerly of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 17, 1997) at Yuma Regional Medical Center. His home was in Tacna, Ariz.

He was born July 24, 1904, in Comanche County, Texas. Twelve years later, the family moved to Riddle where he graduated from high school.

On Dec. 24, 1928, he married Zaida Eakin, who survives.

Mr. Acker graduated from the University of Idaho, Moscow, majoring in forestry.

He worked for the U.S. Forest Service on the Umpqua National Forest at Glide, then from 1932 to 1941 was manager of a grocery store in Riddle and operated a dairy and chicken farm. In 1941, he was a timekeeper for the Freeport Sulphur Mining Co. at its

Hanna Nickel Mine in Riddle.

For three years in Portland, he worked for Calyear Motor Sales Co., then transferred to Medford where he managed Calyear's auto parts store until a injury on the job in 1969 forced early retirement.

The Ackers spent winters in Arizona for 21 years before moving to Tacna in 1992.

A 32nd Mason in Scottish Rite, Medford, he was a life member and past master of the lodge in Riddle.

Mr. Acker also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and rock hounding.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Jay, Medford; two daughters, Joyce Pasley, Tacna, and Betty Love, Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Pauline Ritzman, Chehalis, Wash.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Milton; and a sister, Ethel Band.

Arrangements: Sunset Vista Funeral Home.

Gregory Gene Close

Gregory Gene Close, 56, of Kerby, died Tuesday (Dec. 16, 1997) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born May 4, 1941, in Los Angeles.

Mr. Close lived in Crescent City, Calif., for 40 years before moving to Kerby.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley C. Richcreek, Phoenix; his father, Marion A. Close, Crescent City; a sister, Susan C. Close, Phoenix; and a brother, M. Allan Close, Middletown, Calif.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Mildred Lucile Jett

The funeral for Mildred Lucile Jett will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Ashland First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Eileen Dunn of Providence Medford Medical Center Hospice will officiate. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.

Friends will gather at 4 p.m. at the Idle Wheels Mobile Home Park recreation room, 2252 Table Rock Road, Medford.

Mrs. Jett, 84, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 16, 1997) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Mildred Miller on April 30, 1913, in Sigourney, Iowa.

On June 25, 1937, in Huntington Park, Calif., she married Raymond Edward Jett, who died in 1978. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946 from Maywood, Calif.

Mrs. Jett was a salesperson for Parker Woods in Medford from 1955 to 1965.

She enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hammond, Medford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Carol Earl Converse

Carol Earl Converse, 94, formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 1997) in Soldotna, Alaska. His home was in Kenai, Alaska.

A memorial service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kenai Chapel. Interment was in Anchor Point, Alaska.

He was born March 11, 1903, in Chester, Oklahoma Territory.

In 1921, the family moved to Oregon, driving two Model T Fords.

Mr. Converse was a 1924 graduate of Canyonville High School.

On Feb. 23, 1925, in Roseburg, he married Zella Faye Hyde, who died in 1995. They lived in Southern Oregon until moving to Irrigon in 1983, then to Kenai in 1993.

Mr. Converse retired from the Oregon State Highway Department after 42 years, spending the last 30 years as foreman of the Greensprings maintenance section.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. An avid rock hound, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two daughters, Annella Robinson, Central Point, and Lorraine Ashcraft, Kenai; a son, Roger, Otis; a brother, Alvin, Medford; two sisters, Mina Radford, Canyonville, and Sylvia Steward, Wolf Creek; 14 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Peninsula Memorial Chapel, Kenai.

Alicia Martin

The memorial service for Alicia Martin will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Christian Center in Ashland. Pastor Ron Timen will officiate. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hargadine Cemetery, Ashland.

Mrs. Martin, 39, of Ashland, died Saturday (Dec. 13, 1997) at her home.

She was born Oct. 30, 1958, in Glendale, Calif., and grew up in Hollywood, Calif.

Mrs. Martin graduated from Pasadena City College.

On April 7, 1979, in LaCrescenta, Calif., she married Ted Martin, who survives. They moved to Ashland in 1979.

Mrs. Martin occasionally worked at Bear Creek Corp.

She was a member of the Christian Center and enjoyed hiking and outdoor sports.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Alexander, Paul, Luke and Ben, all Ashland; three sisters, Merrillee Luther, Medford, Christina Wood, Goleta, Calif., and Jacque Reil, Palm Desert, Calif.; and a brother, Cameron Luther, Mission Viejo, Calif.

Arrangements: Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Linda B. Richardson

Linda Belle Richardson, 50, of Ashland, died Saturday (Dec. 13, 1997) at her home. The memorial service will be held later in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Family Service, 922 N. Central Ave., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Nov. 13, 1947, in Oakland, Calif.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in the 1980s.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Pellegrini, Santa Rosa; her parents, John and Betty Richardson, Santa Rosa; three sisters, Louise A. Cummings, Oakland, and Rajat Esbat and Susan M. Beckman, both Santa Rosa; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Charles K. Nemier

The memorial service for Charles K. Nemier will be at 4:15 p.m. Friday in the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary Catholic Chapel in White City. Chaplain Donald Salisbury will officiate. Interment will be at 10 a.m. in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Nemier, 81, of White City, died Saturday (Dec. 13, 1997) at the VA Domiciliary.

He was born June 26, 1916, in Wellesley Island, N.Y.

Mr. Nemier worked for his father in commercial construction.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include a brother, Richard J., Syracuse, N.Y.

Arrangements: Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
