Ruth A. Carter

Ruth A. Carter, 78, formerly of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 15, 1997) in a Bakersfield, Calif., hospital. A private service is planned.

She was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Loveland, Colo. She moved to Medford in 1974 from Long Beach, Calif.

Mrs. Carter worked for T.C. Grooms Insurance Co. for 17 years, then for Sears in Medford for 22 years.

She enjoyed reading and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Pini, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Jeannie Hogue, Techachapi, Calif.; a son, Burton, Burbank, Calif.; a brother, Gayle Osborn; six grandchildren; and one grandchild.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services.

Dorothy Olson

The memorial service for Dorothy Olson will be at 11 a.m. today at the Fort Dick Bible Church, Fort Dick, Calif. A potluck will follow.

Mrs. Olson, 59, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 1997) in an automobile accident in Cave Junction. Her home was in Crescent City, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Dick Bible Academy Gymnasium Fund, 6725 Lake Earl Drive, Fort Dick, CA 95538 or Gideons, P.O. Box 82, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Dorothy Long on Nov. 9, 1938, in French Camp, Calif., and grew up in Clatskanie and Talent.

After graduating from Southern Oregon College in 1963, she moved to Del Norte County, Calif., to teach first grade at Redwood School.

Mrs. Olson lived in Del Norte County for 34 years. In 1975, she helped establish the Fort Dick Bible School where she was a supervisor and principal.

She also was a member of the Fort Dick Bible Church, where she was a deaconess and Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Olson was an active member of the Gideons Auxiliary and the Lighthouse Quilting Guild.

Survivors include her husband, George Olson, Crescent City; three sons, Pat, Weed, Calif., and Mike and Jon, both Crescent City; her mother, Ruth Granby, Springfield; her twin brother, Frank Long, Jacksonville, two brothers, Jon Granby, Madras, and Don Long, Boulder, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Lundberg's L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

James R. Kirkpatrick

The graveside service for James R. Kirkpatrick will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Revs. David Gomez of the Jerusalem Center and Gary Shaffer will officiate.

Mr. Kirkpatrick, 72, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) at his home.

Memorial contributions will be made to the Jerusalem Center, 6 Mace Road, Medford, OR 97501, or Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Dec. 25, 1924, at Stuttgart, Kan.

He served in the U.S. Navy for more than 30 years, retiring as a chief electrician's mate.

On Dec. 8, 1962, at Forest Falls, Calif., he married Beryle Louise Chaney, who survives. They moved to Medford in 1970.

He worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash., for four years.

In 1979 he was ordained a minister of the Pentecostal Evangelical Church and served as assistant pastor of the Jerusalem Center and at other churches in counseling and teaching.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Naval Reserve Association. He enjoyed American history and horses.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six sons, Jedediah, Medford, Rene, Newport News, Va., Faron Lee, Dallas, Texas, Charles, Newport, William Edward Duffy, North Bend, and Thomas Sunday, Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Cheryl Musgrove, Newport News, Va.; a brother, Murle Marion Kirkpatrick, San Francisco; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A brother, Thomas Dale, preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Herman A. Stockinger

The funeral for Herman A. Stockinger will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford. Stan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ will officiate.

Mr. Stockinger, 70, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 1997) at his home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Orange, N.J.

On July 31, 1948, in Orange, he married Marian Kellstrom, who survives.

Mr. Stockinger was a chef for 46 years. He retired in 1988 and moved to Medford from Las Vegas.

He was a member of the Culinary Union.

He also enjoyed gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Linda Michael, of Arlington, Va.; a son, William H., of Las Vegas; a brother, Nicholas, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a sister, Elsie Zink, of Brick, N.J.; and one grandson.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Ronald Lee Eckley

Ronald Lee Eckley, 54, of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 21, 1997) in Medford. A private memorial service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

Mr. Eckley was born Nov. 28, 1943 in Boone, Iowa.

On Jan. 16, 1965, in Reno, he married Marie Rouzer, who survives. They moved to Oregon in 1971.

He was an auto body repairman for Carr's Auto Body.

Mr. Eckley was a member of the Medford Eagles Lodge and its R.V. Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Cynthia M. Rossiter, White City; a son, Roger L., Medford; his mother, Dorothy Jensen, Webster City, Iowa; three brothers, Lawrence, Hayward, Calif., Mike, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Stanley, Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Karen Twit, Aurora, Colo., and Barbara Gingery, Ankeny, Iowa; and three grandchildren. A granddaughter preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral.

Hutch Hutchinson

Leigh "Hutch" Hutchinson, 72, of Grants Pass, died Monday (Dec. 22, 1997) at his home. A private service will be held in the Jacksonville Cemetery.

He was born July 15, 1925, in Chicago.

Mr. Hutchinson moved to Grants Pass in 1995 from Chico, Calif., and had lived in Connecticut for more than 20 years.

He was a civil engineer for 20 years with Patent Scaffolding, a subsidiary of Harsco Corp.

Mr. Hutchinson was an artist and enjoyed wood carving. His work is featured at Anna Marie's Gallery in Jacksonville.

Survivors include his wife, Louise M. Hutchinson, Grants Pass; a daughter, Beth Marie Hutchinson, Jacksonville; two sons, Rick, Sacramento, Calif., and Kevin Eugene, St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Frances Wildhage, Chicago; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Marvin H. Bornholdt

Marvin Henry Bornholdt, 87, of Rogue River, died Friday (Dec. 19, 1997) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1425 N.E. Irving St., Suite 100, Portland, OR 97232-4201 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Jan. 2, 1910, in Goddard, Kan. He graduated from Towanda High School in Towanda, Kan.

On Oct. 29, 1932, in Canton, Kan., he married Juanita Ella Shook who survives. They moved to California in 1935, living in Downey for 20 years before moving to Rogue River.

Mr. Bornholdt owned and operated Marvin's Mobile Home Services until retiring 10 years ago.

He ran Reno trips every other month through Marvin's Tours.

Mr. Bornholdt was a member of the Rogue River Masonic Lodge and Seniors Club. He enjoyed calling bingo games at the Rogue River Veterans of Foreign Wars and Senior Center.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Roy, Grants Pass; two daughters, Jane Goodell, Grants Pass, and Joyce Martin, Hemet, Calif.; a sister, Margueritte O'Dneil, Los Angeles; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Society, Grants Pass

Ida Myrtle Manthe

The funeral for Ida Myrtle Manthe will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Siskiyou Memorial Park Chapel in Medford. Interment will be in Siskiyou Mausoleum.

Mrs. Manthe, 76, of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 21, 1997) at her daughter's Medford home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Ida Myrtle Rasmusson on June 25, 1921, in Elma, Wash.

On March 15, 1941, in Longview, Wash., she married John E. Manthe, who died Oct. 15, 1997. They lived in Salem until moving to Lebanon, Ore. in 1947. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Lebanon, Ore.

Mrs. Manthe was a bookkeeper for the Crowfoot School District in Lebanon, retiring in 1978.

She enjoyed crocheting, crafts and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Primasing, Medford; four sons, John Jr., Lebanon, Richard L., Reedsport, Raymond D., Salem, and Dennis M., Elizabeth, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services, Medford.
