William E. Smith
The graveside service for William Edward Smith will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Medford Eastwood IOOF Cemetery.
Mr. Smith, 87, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) at his home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Oklahoma.
On June 10, 1933, in Wright City, Okla., he married Willa Maye Henson, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Klamath Falls in 1959.
Mr. Smith was a filer for the Fruitgrowers Mill in Hilt, Calif., retiring in 1972.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Troy E., Salem; a daughter, Wanda Giles, Olympia, Wash.; five sisters, Jimmie Shouse, Belleview, Fla., Grace Townsend, Boswell, Okla., Nettie Shouse, Tulsa, Okla., and Jewel Downs and Dorothy Thomas, both Broken Bow, Okla.; four granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Eather Adams
The cryptside service for Esther Adams will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Tom Sabens of Hope Christian Church will officiate.
Mrs. Adams, 96, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) in Medford.

She was born Esther Carlson on Jan. 9, 1901, in Coin, Iowa.
She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1935.
On March 4, 1985, in Gold Hill, she married Elva Lewis Adams, who died in 1988.
She was a member of the Hope Christian Church and the Eagles Lodge of Medford. She enjoyed dancing and playing games.
Survivors include a son, Conrad Aarseth, Galt, Calif.; two daughters, Marian Daniken and Irene Hamilton, both Medford; a sister, Hazel Markuson, Minneapolis, Minn.; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Conrad Aarseth, and a son, Don Aaresth, preceded her in death.

Jeff M. Madden
Jeffrey "Jeff" Michael Madden, 27, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) at his home. A private service is planned.

He was born April 23, 1970, in Tucson, Ariz.
He enjoyed music and art.
Survivors include his parents, Harry E. and Carole Stukan, White City; two sisters, Laura Madden and Jennifer Madden, both of White City; and grandparents, Leo and Paula Daily, Santa Ana, Calif., and Robert Montecions, Corona, Calif.

Anne K. Gottschalk
Anne K. Gottschalk, 83, of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 20, 1997) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned. Interment will be in Beth El Municipal Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyo.

She was born Anne Kaufman on June 1, 1914, in Cheyenne, where she grew up.
During World War II, she joined the engineering division of Boeing Air Transport as a riveter. The company later became a part of United Air Lines. It was there she met Robert Gottschalk, who was in the purchasing department.
They both were transferred to San Francisco, and were married Dec. 31, 1948, in Carmel, Calif. He died Jan. 17, 1997.
After 26 years with UAL she retired as an executive secretary in the engineering department. He was with UAL for 47 years and retired in 1974. They moved to Talent in 1974 and to Medford in 1995.
Shortly after moving to Southern Oregon, the couple started the United Air Lines Retirement Club here.
She was a member of the Talent Garden Club.
The Gottschalks volunteered for a number of organizations including Catholic charities, American Association of Retired Persons annual tax help program, were drivers for Loaves and Fishes, and she supported her husband with his Talent Lions Club activities.
Mrs. Gottschalk was known for her philanthropy.
Survivors include two sisters, Kate McCuskey, Brookings, and Ernestine Horn, La Mesa, Calif. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Nadine.

Richard W. Hughes
Richard W. Hughes, 88, of Phoenix, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) at a Phoenix foster home. A private service is planned.

He was born May 3, 1909, in Lancaster, Ohio.
Mr. Hughes was a civilian mechanical engineer for many years at McClelland Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. He retired in 1974.
Mr. Hughes moved to Phoenix in 1977 from Sacramento.
On June 25, 1977, at Carson City, Nev., he married Marvel R. Lawrence, who survives.
He was a member of the Natama Masonic Lodge in Folsom, Calif.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Richard, Carmichael, Calif.

David W. Taylor
The memorial service for David W. Taylor will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark Cach will officiate.
Mr. Taylor, 63, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born April 29, 1934, in Decatur, Ill.
On Dec. 11, 1971, in Roseburg, he married Geraldine May Flink, who survives.
Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Navy.
He worked for the Bureau of Land Management for 33 years, holding positions in Medford, Coos Bay, Roseburg and Washington, D.C. When he retired he was associate district manager in Coos Bay.
Mr. Taylor was secretary of the Rogue Valley Bowling Association and a director of the Oregon State Bowling Association. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Sabrina Bagent, Fresno, Calif.; his mother, Ina L. Smith, St. Germain, Wis.; a brother, Dale, Sayner, Wis.; a sister, Sharon Winter, Palmer, Alaska; and three grandchildren.

Albert Ellis Wall
Albert Ellis Wall, 80, formerly of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 3, 1997) at his home in Coburg. No service is planned.
He was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Medford, a son of Everett Raymond and Alonia Melvina Wall.
Mr. Wall attended Medford schools and was employed for several years in the Medford area.
During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines, from which he later retired.
On June 15, 1957, he married Pauline Brewster, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Bill Brewster, Martinez, Calif.; three sisters, Alice L. Ford, Talent, and Janet E. Pinkham and Mary E. Engle, both Harbor; a brother, John D., Vista, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nelda; and two sisters, Rosamond E. Hunt and Barbara Lowry-Blackington.

Mae E. Falcy
Mae E. Falcy, 87, of Shady Cove, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) at her son's home in Trail. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in the Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee, N.J.
She was born Mary Elizabeth Parkes on Nov. 4, 1910, in New York City.
Mrs. Falcy moved to the Rogue Valley 18 years ago.
She was a volunteer at the Eagle Point Library for many years and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Shady Cove.
Survivor include two sons, Laurent, Trail, and Roger, Atlantic City, N.J.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, Roger Falcy, died in 1985.
