W. Dan Styers
W. Dan Styers, 69, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 1997) at the Ashland Community Hospital. His home was in Maxwell, Calif. A private service is planned.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Youth Programs, Maxwell, CA 95955.
He was born Nov. 26, 1928, at Livingston, Mont.
On March 18, 1958, in Crescent City, Calif., he married Donna Mae Thomas, who survives.
They moved to Ashland in 1959, living there until moving to Fairfield, Calif., in 1963.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
A watchmaker, he operated Dan's Watch and Clock in Fairfield and later was a watchmaker at the Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, Calif. He retired in 1983.
Mr. Styers was a member of the Ashland Old Timers Car Club, the Elks Lodge in Willows, Calif., and the American Legion in Maxwell.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Maryann Kathleen Breswick and RaJean Marie Harney, both Ashland, and Becky Krause, Mount Shasta, Calif.; two sons, Walter Daniel Jr., Yreka, Calif., and Charles Daniel, Portland; a brother, Wilber A., McCloud, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Lloyd E. Thetford
The funeral for Lloyd Edward Thetford will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene, Medford. Pastors Craig Rench and Kevin Gowland will officiate. Interment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Thetford, 62, of Shady Cove, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 1997) at his daughter's home in Rogue River.
He was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Bethel, N.M. He graduated from high school in Strathmore, Calif., and attended college for a year before joining the U.S. Navy in 1955.
He retired May 15, 1975, as a chief petty officer. His overseas duty included Scotland and Vietnam.
On Nov. 9, 1985, in Ventura, Calif., he married Jacquelyn "Jackie" Johnson, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley four years ago from California.
In Saticoy, Calif., he owned and operated a gun store for 11 years.
Mr. Thetford served on the Shady Cove City Council.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed china painting, golfing, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Stacy Doerges, Rogue River; a son, Troy, San Antonio, Texas; three step-sons, Steven Hildreth, Washington, D.C., Mike Hildreth, Niwot, Colo., and Kevin Hildreth, Ventura; two step-daughters, Kathy Newlan, Medford, and Patricia White, Ventura; two brothers, Carl, Newbury Park, Calif., and LeRoy, Roswell, N.M.; two sisters, Carol Haynes, Victorville, Calif., and Betty Walters, Fontana, Calif.; and 22 grandchildren. His first wife, Geraldine Thetford, died in 1983.

Beverly Baum
The funeral for Beverly Jean Baum will be at 3 p.m. Tuesay at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Medford Stake. Bishop Gary Smith will officiate.
Interment will be in the Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward, Calif.
Mrs. Baum, 65, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 1997) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born Beverly Jean Carpenter on Dec. 20, 1932, in Woodland, Calif.
In 1953, she moved to the Hayward/Fremont area of California where she worked in an ad agency, then owned and operated Interstate Mail Service in Newark, Calif.
She was on the Alameda County Council Postal Board and on the Chamber of Commerce board in Fremont.
On Aug. 1, 1987, in Dixon, Calif., she married William Paul Baum, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988.
In Medford she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sixth Ward. She was a member of the Aces and Laces square dance group.
Mrs. Baum was a volunteer in helping the hungry and homeless.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters, Tina Bowersmith, Medford, Connie Fogle, Grants Pass, Kathleen McCowan, Citrus Heights, Calif., and Brenda Hunn, Hayward; three sons, Paul Vonstrahl, Medford, Karl Vonstrahl, Provo, Utah, and Erik Vonstrahl, Nashville, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Loflin, and a granddaughter.

Helen L. Fitzgerald
Helen Latham Fitzgerald, 77, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 1997) at the Corvallis Manor. No service is planned.
She was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Latham, Mo., a daughter of Peter and Ethel Latham. The family moved to Medford in 1923.
She was a 1938 graduate of Medford High School.
On July 19, 1942, in Medford, she married Duane S. Fitzgerald, who survives. They moved to Corvallis in 1953.
From 1956 to 1976, Mrs. Fitzgerald was a secretary at Wilson Motor in Corvallis.
She was a member of the Oregon State University Folk Club, Daughters of the Nile, and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Mike, Eugene; a brother, Gerald T. Latham, Medford; a sister, "A" Petersen, Medford; and a grandson. A brother, Leland Conway Latham, and two sisters, Geraldine Taylor and Betty Neal, preceded her in death.

Lois Allen
Lois Allen, 79, wife of the Rev. George H. Allen, retired minister of the Talent United Methodist Church, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 1997) in Forest Grove following a long illness. Her home was in McMinnville.
Two memorial services are planned. The first will be in McMinnville Jan. 3 and the second at 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Ashland Congregational Church.

In 1988, the Allens founded the Habitat for Humanity chapter in Medford and Ashland, the second in the state. She organized the United Nations Association Southern Oregon Chapter.
Mrs. Allen also served as interpreter of the UN among Methodist women in the United States for eight years.
Active in Church Women United, Mrs. Allen served as state president after the couple moved to McMinnville and received its Valiant Woman Award.
The couple lived in Phoenix from 1983 to 1995.
Mr. Allen, in addition to serving the Talent church, was chaplain for one year at the Rogue Valley Manor.
Mrs. Allen formed the first class on "Writing Your Life Story" at Chemeketa Community College and wrote a book on the subject.
She was born May 26, 1918, in Hansen, Idaho. Her mother died a few weeks later and she was raised by a cousin of her father.
She was a 1940 graduate of Linfield College and earned a master's degree from Northwestern University. She taught school in Idaho for a few years, then was a social worker for an orphanage in New York City.
While in New York she met George Allen and following their marriage, returned West.
While he served churches in Idaho and Oregon, she taught school and became active in international affairs.
They moved to McMinnville two years ago.
She was a member of the McMinnville United Methodist Church and PEO Sisterhood.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Mea Allen, Dallas, and Becky Bauen, Seattle; a son, Larry, Bloomfield, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Victor M. Wayne
The graveside service for Victor M. Wayne will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Siskiyou Memorial Park. The REv. George Nye of Eastwood Baptist church will officiate.
Mr. Wayne, 89, of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 25, 1997) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501.
He was born May 2, 1908, in New York City.
He lived in Germany for 12 years as a boy, serving as an altar boy in the Cologne Cathedral. The family moved to the United States in 1921 and he attended Detroit, Mich., schools. He also attended Taft Trade School.
In July 1929 in Detroit, he married Louise Radde, who died in 1985.
Mr. Wayne worked for the Lincoln Division of Ford Motor Co. from 1937 until 1942.
During World War II he was a quality control inspector on 40 mm automatic gun directors for the military.
Later he bought and operated Wayne Rents, a medical equipment company in Whittier, Calif. He retired in 1974.
He enjoyed attending the horse races and was president of the Lions Club in Whittier.
They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975.
On Feb. 13, 1986, in Reno, Nev., he married Grace A. Boughtin, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Delbert and Calvin, both Medford; a step-daughter, Janet Sowell, Central Point; a brother, Harry Wayoff in Michigan; a step-sister, Arlene; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A brother, John, died in 1987.
Friends may pay their respects from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Siskiyou Chapel.
