Fay Melvin Stiehl
The funeral for Fay Melvin Stiehl will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Memory Gardens Chapel, Medford. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Stiehl, 81, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 2, 1998) at the Three Fountains Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Beach, N.D. The family moved to the Rogue Valley four years later.
Mr. Stiehl graduated from Rogue River High School.
From 1938 to 1946, he operated Stiehl Brothers Market with his brother Willis. He then worked for Modoc Packing from 1948 until 1951, when he became a lumber talleyman for Medford Corp. He retired in 1978.
Mr. Stiehl was a life member of the Church of the Nazarene in Medford and Rogue River. An avid gardener, he enjoyed giving planted trees to family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ross, Central Point, Amy Betcher, Medford, and Dr. Ruth Stiehl, Portland; two sons, Melvin, Portland, and Tom, Beaverton; a brother, Willis, Rogue River; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
Marion May Wood
Marion May Wood, 75, of Ashland, died Saturday (Jan. 3, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. Private interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.

She was born Marion McCluey on Dec. 11, 1922, in Hillsboro.
A registered nurse for 30 years, she retired as an intensive care unit nurse in 1984.
She moved to Ashland six years ago from Ukiah, Calif.
For many years she was active in Girl Scouts.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori Vieu, Ashland, and Christine Quentmeyer, Placerville, Calif.; three sons, Kenneth Jr., Ukiah, Thomas, Homer, Alaska, and Timothy, Los Angeles; a brother, LeRoy McCluey, Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Maxine Howery, Portland, and Elaine Dorman, Granite Falls, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Jerry A. Montgomery
The graveside service for Jerry Allen Montgomery will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Greenwood Cemetery, Bend. Pastor John Lodwick will officiate.
Mr. Montgomery, 64, formerly of Talent, died Tuesday (Jan. 6, 1998) at his home in Bend.

He was born Nov. 22, 1933, in Talent, a son of Donnie and Vera Withrow Montgomery. He lived in the Rogue Valley until 1968.
On Oct. 21, 1972, in Reno, he married Sally Tryon, who survives.
Mr. Montgomery was a receiving manager at Bi-Mart for 20 years, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, gardening, and collecting arrowheads in the desert.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Jerry Brooks, Portland, Tom, Terrebonne, David, Reno, and Jim, Fort Atkinson, Wisc.; two daughters, Lorie Hollibaugh, Redmond, and Judy Dunn, Bremerton, Wash.; his mother, Vera Mae Newland, Portland; a brother, Monty, Portland; a sister, Betty Giaconi, The Dalles; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Donnie Allen Montgomery.

Garnet May Pippey
Garnet May Pippey, 63, of Central Point, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Private interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.
She was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Eugene, a daughter of Stanford and Verna McCourry. A few years later the family moved to Ashland, where she attended school.
After living in Hayward, Calif., for a few years, she moved to Central Point 13 years ago.
Mrs. Pippey was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Billy McPherson, Medford, and Alex McPherson, Central Point; two daughters, Vernell Smith, Medford, and Sherry Hunter, White Salmon, Wash.; two brothers, Jesse McCourry, Talent, and Kenneth McCourry, Central Point; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, William D. McPherson and William Pippey, and a sister.

Howard R. Robertson
The funeral for Howard R. Robertson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the South East Lawn Mortuary in Elk Grove, Calif. A memorial service will be held later in Anchorage, Alaska.
Mr. Robertson, 64, formerly of Central Point, died Sunday (Dec. 28, 1997) in Anchorage, where he was living.
He was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Stigler, Okla.
On Sept. 18, 1982, in Reno, he married Kathryn F. Johnson, who survives.
Mr. Robertson lived in Central Point from 1977 to 1987, when he moved to Anchorage.
He was manager of a trucking line and a farmer.
Mr. Robertson enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and reading Western novels.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five sons, Jason Johnson and Jeff Johnson, both Central Point, Larry, Solvang, Calif., Danny, Livermore, Calif., and Scott, Chowchilla, Calif.; a daughter, Catherine White, Truckee, Calif.; two brothers, Jerry, Central Point, and Ralph, McKinleyville, Calif.; a sister, Freida Norman, Merced, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Neil Martin Shaffer
The memorial service for Neil Martin Shaffer will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Central Point.
Mr. Shaffer, 65, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 19, 1997).

Donald James Evert
The graveside service for Donald James Evert will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Evert, 49, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Jan. 5, 1998) at his home.

He was born April 20, 1948, in Billings, Mont.
He graduated from Clearlake, Calif., High School and was an Eagle Scout.
Mr. Evert moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from Clearlake, where he owned and operated a gas station.
In Medford, he owned and operated a mobile home park.
Mr. Evert enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Survivors include two aunts, Rita Matthews, Eugene, and Geraldine Jamieson, in Florida; two nieces, Megan Evert and Bailey Evert, both Kelsyville, Calif.; and a nephew, David Jelle, Sacramento, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother, Doug.

William P.R. Baum
The graveside service for William Paul Rank Baum will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Bishop Gregory Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Medford 6th Ward, will officiate.
Mr. Baum, 61, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 4, 1998) at his home.
He was born April 19, 1936, in Canton, Ohio.
On Aug. 1, 1987, in Dixon, Calif., he married Beverly Conner, who died in December 1997. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987.
In Medford, worked with Jackson County Mental Health as a foster provider.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Baum was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Medford.
He was an inventor and enjoyed mechanics.
Survivors include three sons, Paul John VonStrahl, Paul Karl VonStrahl, and Paul Erik VonStrahl, all Medford; four stepdaughters, Tina Bowersmith, Medford, Connie Fogle, Grants Pass, Brenda Hunn, Hayward, Calif., and Kathleen McCowan, Citrus Heights, Calif.; his mother, Marie Emily Rank, Carson, Calif.; two sisters, Jane Waylon, Medford, and Judy Belcher, Carson; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
