Joe V. Anderson
Joe V. Anderson, 81, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 11, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. No service is planned.
He was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Merrillan, Wis.
On April 9, 1979, in Pismo Beach, Calif., he married Joyce Neiss, who survives.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Anderson was a millwright.
He moved to Oregon in 1989 from California.
Mr. Anderson was an ombudsman for senior citizens.
He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, and building houses.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Joey, Sacramento, Calif.; four daughters, Joyce Pattison, Charlottesville, Va., Judy Bjornson, Cambria, Calif., and Jeanne Anderson and Betty Eddings, both Atascadero, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren.

Riley E. Sweeney
The memorial service for Riley Elisabeth Sweeney, infant daughter of Tom and Jaymey Sweeney of Medford, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Harvest Baptist Temple, 2001 S. Columbus Ave., Medford. Pastor Bob Gass will officiate.
Riley died Jan. 7, 1998, at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.

She was born Dec. 29, 1997, in Medford.

Jerry Young
The graveside service for Philip T. "Jerry" Young will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor Robert Larson will officiate.
Mr. Young, 95, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 14, 1998) at his home.

He was born March 11, 1902, in Long Island, Kan., and moved to Medford in 1910.
In 1935, in Medford, he married Frances L. Scott, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Young owned and operated automobile dealerships in Medford. From 1955 to 1976, he was a contractor building houses.
He enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking, and reading.
Survivors include two sons, Pete and Don, both Medford; five grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Susie Collins
Vivian Susan "Susie" Collins, 80, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 8, 1998) while the family was visiting relatives in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford.

She was born Vivian Susan Smith on Aug. 6, 1917, in Sheffield, Ill.
She was a graduate of the University of Southern California where she majored in speech.
During World War II she served in the Women's Army Corps at Camp White as a liaison officer.
On Jan. 14, 1946, in Missoula, Mont., she married Hugh Collins, who survives. They then moved to Medford where he opened his law practice.
For a time, Mrs. Collins taught school in Ashland and Medford.
Long active in the Medford Branch, American Association of University Women, she had participated in eight interest groups, including International Affairs and Literature, of which she was chairperson. In 1990 she was among recipients of Educational Foundation named grants.
While living on Valley View Drive, she frequently hosted the membership at the Collins' home.
She also was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and League of Women Voters and enjoyed bridge.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Catherine Watkins, Eugene, Sarah Milliken, Los Angeles, and Mary Cochran, San Juan, Puerto Rico; a brother, Berkley P. Smith, Sun City, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Kieth R. Bradshaw
Kieth Richard Bradshaw, 57, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 10, 1998) in Medford. No service is planned.
He was born April 11, 1940, in Long Beach, Calif.
On Feb. 4, 1961, in Long Beach, he married Deane Mhoon, who died in 1994. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Long Beach.
Mr. Bradshaw was a certified nurse's aide for Rogue Valley Care Center in Medford and Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.
He enjoyed collecting antiques.
Survivors include two sons, Kieth M., Medford, and Todd in California; a brother, Bob, Long Beach; two sisters, Donna Pascual, Long Beach, and Julie; and four grandchildren.

Mildred Irene Stewart
Mildred Irene Stewart, 84, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 12, 1998) in Medford. No service is planned. Private interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

She was born Aug. 13, 1913, in Big Timber, Mont., a daughter of Allen and Sara Dodge. In the early 1920s, the family moved to the Rogue Valley.
She was a graduate of Medford High School.
On Sept. 5, 1952, in Crescent City, Calif., she married Gerald Stewart, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Stewart was a Girl Scout leader for many years and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Survivors include twin daughters, Joan Rae Madden, Medford, and Jean Kay Black, Central Point; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thrye Dodge.

Lois Jean Agee
Lois Jean Agee, 77, of Rogue River, died Saturday (Jan. 10, 1998) at her home. A private memorial is planned.

She was born Lois Jean Roy on April 23, 1920, in Lincoln, Kan.
She was a secretary for Santa Clara County in San Jose, Calif., for more than 30 years, retiring in 1972.
On Jan. 19, 1965, in Nevada, she married Gene Agee, who preceded her in death.
She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Yuma, Ariz.
Mrs. Agee was an avid sports fan, also owned a dog, and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and mysteries.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Welsh, Rogue River, and Gloria Jones, Ione, Wash.; a son, Bill Welsh, Fallbrook, Calif.; a sister, Mildred Pickens, Lawrence, Kan.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Welsh.

Helen Lucile Higgins-McConnell
Helen Lucile Higgins-McConnell, 86, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Jan. 9, 1998) at her home. Private interment will be today in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass. A memorial celebration will be held March 6 on her birthday.

She was born March 6, 1911, in Onega, Kan., the daughter of Roy Edward and Lena Higgins. The family came to Grants Pass in 1916, first settling on the Illinois River, where they planned to homestead and mine. However, a year later they moved to Grants Pass.
She attended Riverside School and Grants Pass High School, graduating from a private girl's school in Portland.
On Nov. 28, 1929, in Grants Pass, she married Samuel Allen McConnell, who survives. They owned the Palace Cafe and several other local businesses for many years. They later divorced.
Mrs. McConnell moved to Sacramento, Calif., in the 1980s, to live with her daughter, Arden McConnell. The two returned to Grants Pass in 1995 to restore and live in the family home.
Mrs. McConnell, who enjoyed sharing stories of her early days in Grants Pass, also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her daughter, include her former husband, Sam McConnell; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
