Christie C. Messinger
The memorial service for Christie Cecil Messinger will be at noon Saturday at Faith Baptist Church, 3405 Williams Highway, Grants Pass.
Mrs. Messinger, 43, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Jan. 16, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born Christie Cecil LaStair on Oct. 10, 1954, in Eugene.
She attended Grants Pass High School and Rogue Community College. She worked for the Child Support Division of the Justice Department in Medford.
On May 31, 1995, in Grants Pass, she married Harry E. Messinger, who survives.
She enjoyed music and dancing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her mother, Marge Mathis, Grants Pass; and two brothers, Bob LaStair, Grants Pass, and Steven LaStair, Springfield.

Jane B. Campbell
Jane Bertzel Campbell, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 17, 1998) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.
She was born Jane Bertzel Miller on Sept. 13, 1914, in Hamilton, Ontario. She moved to Medford three years ago from Melbourne, Fla.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Hoy, Medford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Carl Campbell, died in 1976.

Starlene Ann Wiles
Starlene Ann Wiles, 32, of Central Point, died Saturday (Jan. 17, 1998) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born May 5, 1965, in Fortuna, Calif.
She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 from California.
On Oct. 2, 1997, in Honolulu, Hawaii, she married Louanna Shaw, who survives.
She enjoyed bead work, camping, country music, and hunting seashells.
Survivors, in addition to her spouse, include her mother and step-father, Carolyn and Pat Thom, White City; her father, Ronald Ricetti, Salt Lake City; a brother, Mike Wiles, Medford; two sisters, Terry Brashear, Medford, and Laurie Wiles, McKinleyville, Calif.; and a step-sister, Holly Lender, Gold Beach. Her adopted father, Dave Wiles, died in 1990.

Fred K. Deuel
The memorial service for Fred K. Deuel, a son of an early Medford merchant family, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Medford. The Rev. David W. Close will officiate.
Mr. Deuel, 91, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 18, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 5, 1906, in Medford, the youngest of six children of F.K. and Nancy Deuel. The Deuels came from Missouri in 1894. He was instrumental in forming the First National Bank, which four takeovers later is Wells Fargo Bank; the first department store; and with Alfred Weeks and Edith Orr, founded Del Rio Orchard near Gold Hill.
The Deuel house in Medford's South Oakdale Avenue historic district, built in 1909, is still in the family.
Two pieces of Main Street property long owned by the family are at Main and Bartlett streets where Western Bank now stands and 230 E. Main St., just west of Lawrence's Jewelers.
Mr. Deuel was a 1932 graduate of the University of Oregon Law School and was admitted to the Oregon Bar the same year. He practiced in Medford until 1938 when he started working for federal agencies including the Bonneville Power Administration, Justice Department, Department of the Army and Department of the Navy with assignments ranging from Washington, D.C., to Hawaii.
On March 3, 1950, in Honolulu, he married Margaret Lippincott, who survives.
Mr. Deuel spent the greatest part of his legal career in Honolulu. He retired in 1967 and the family moved to Medford.
Mr. Deuel continued to be involved in family-related businesses.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Peter, Madras; and one grandchild. Five siblings, including his eldest brother, H.S. "Hob" Deuel, who was Medford mayor 1940-42, preceded him in death.

Joan D. Heino
The memorial service for Joan Delores Heino will be at 2 p.m. today in the recreation hall of Talent Mobile Estates, 460 Arnos St., Talent. Pastor Henry Peck will officiate.
Mrs. Heino, 64, of Talent, died Monday (Jan. 19, 1998) at her home.

She was born May 16, 1933, in Benld, Ill.
On Oct. 4, 1964, in Los Angeles, she married Kenneth E. Heino, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Capt. David Scott, North Topsail Beach, N.C.; a daughter, Suzann Heino, Portland; and two sisters, May Louise Jones and Gloria Anderson.

Wilma Nutter Marvin
The funeral for Wilma Nutter Marvin will be at 1:30 p.m. today in the Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Emmett Shortreed of First United Methodist Church of Medford will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.
Mrs. Marvin, 86, of Ashland, died Monday (Jan. 19, 1998) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Wilma Nutter on Nov. 13, 1911, in Goodland, Kan., and moved to Ashland as a young girl. She was a 1930 graduate of Ashland High School.
Mrs. Marvin was a 1932 graduate of Southern Oregon Normal School, receiving a degree in education.
She was a teacher in Ashland and Central Point before moving to Klamath Falls, where she taught for 34 years. She moved to Medford in 1994 and returned to Ashland in 1997.
Mrs. Marvin was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Educators, Peace Memorial Presbyterian Women in Klamath Falls and the First United Methodist Church in Medford.
Survivors include a son, Roy, Ashland; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Nutter; and two brothers, Earl and James Nutter.

Bonnie A. Valentine
The funeral for Bonnie A. Valentine will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Central Point Stake Center, 2305 Taylor Road. Bishop John Vial of the Medford Fourth Ward will officiate. Interment will follow in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 8, 1942, in Medford.
Mrs. Valentine attended Butte Falls Grade School and was a 1960 graduate of Eagle Point High School. She also attended Medford Beauty School.
A beautician, she worked at several beauty salons and operated a salon in Prospect for two years.
In 1967, in Reno, Nev., she married James D. Valentine, who survives.
Mrs. Valentine coached girls' Little League Softball in Prospect.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Valentine played the guitar and accordion, and had written several songs. She enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Michael Owen, Medford, Kevin Leroy, Phoenix, and James D. II, Prineville; her parents, Daniel O. and Velma A. McKeen, Medford; a brother, Daniel O. McKeen, Grants Pass; and a granddaughter.

James A. Hurson
The funeral for James A. Hurson, director of the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary, White City, from 1963 to 1975, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the VA Domiciliary Catholic Chapel. The Rev. Joseph Shirey, chaplain, will officiate. Interment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Perl Chapel in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Hurson, 81, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 18, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born June 4, 1916, in Seattle.
In 1949, in Spokane, Wash., he married Mayme F. Hudson, who died in August 1993.
Mr. Hurson attended Seattle University and received a master's degree in business/hospital administration from Northwestern University in Chicago.
He was a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After joining the Department of Veterans Affairs, Mr. Hurson was administrator of several VA hospitals in New Jersey before coming to the Domiciliary in 1963. He retired in 1975.
While he was at the Domiciliary the Catholic Chapel and the golf course were built.
Mr. Hurson, who was active in his church, enjoyed golfing, reading and playing gin rummy.
Survivors include two sons, James M., Santa Rosa, Calif., and Joseph, Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Patrick, Yakima, Wash., and Daniel, Kennewick, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
