Blanford F. Shores

The graveside service for Blanford Francis Shores will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. Jay M. Milojevich of Trinity Orthodox Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Mr. Shores, 95, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 19, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1332 Mount Pitt Ave., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born March 18, 1902, in La Grande.

On Nov. 18, 1923, in Medford, he married Ruth Greene, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Shores owned West End Furniture in San Rafael, Calif., before moving to Medford in 1960.

For 10 years, he was a salesman for the Dempster Furniture Store, then McMahan's Furniture, retiring in 1970.

Mr. Shores was a member of Trinity Orthodox Presbyterian Church. He was an avid reader.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Poulos, Central Point, Mary Kathleen Richards, Folsom, Calif., and Susan Schlumberger, Mount Vernon, Wash.; a brother, Orval Shores, Medford; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clare.

G. Darlene Preston

The graveside service for Gayla Darlene Preston will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Siskiyou Memorial Park. Bishop Greg Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate.

Ms. Preston, 46, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 18, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3080 S.E. Spokane St., Portland, OR 97202.

She was born Gayla Darlene Poulson on June 8, 1951, in Monte Vista, Colo.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 and for many years was part-owner of the Ceramic Barn in Medford.

Ms. Preston graduated with honors, having a cumulative grade average of 4.0, from Rogue Community College with a degree in business. Later she taught business and computer courses at RCC.

She enjoyed genealogy, painting, needlework, and the Oregon Coast.

She was a member of the Medford Sixth Ward of LDS.

Survivors include two sons, William Edward and Richard Bruce, both Medford; her father, Bruce Leonard Poulson, Medford; two brothers, Marvin Eugene Poulson, Medford, and Michael Vinton Poulson, Sharpsburg, Ga.; a sister, Catherine Lynn Taylor, Medford; and three grandsons. Her mother, Vonda Poulson, preceded her in death.

Friends may pay their respects from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Abbey Funeral, 2680 N. Pacific Highway, Medford.

Rosemary Keeney

Rosemary Keeney, 86, widow of Robert Keeney, longtime Medford architect, died Friday (Jan. 16, 1998) at Hearthstone.

Friends will gather at the Rogue Valley Country Club from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday to reminisce about her.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501, or a favorite charity.

She was born Rosemary Gardiner on Oct. 18, 1989, in Burleigh County, N.D.

She was a graduate of Oregon State University with a degree in home economics.

On May 10, 1938, in Coquille, she married Robert Keeney, who died in August 1989. They made their home in Medford, where he was in practice with the late Frank C. Clark. Mr. Keeney designed many major Rogue Valley buildings.

Mrs. Keeney was an avid golfer, bridge player, and world traveler. She was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.

Survivors include a niece, Nancy O'Connor, Sacramento; and a nephew, Edward Gardiner, Chico.

Marjorie S. Gandee

The funeral for Marjorie S. Gregory Gandee will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Siskiyou Chapel. Pastor Fred Harrison of the Christian Church of Shady Cove will officiate. Interment will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gandee, 82, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 20, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideon's South Camp, P.O. Box 1811, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Feb. 22, 1915, in Ogden, Utah. The family moved to the Rogue Valley from Chico, Calif., in 1929.

She was a 1933 graduate of Medford High School and a 1935 graduate of Southern Oregon Normal School, Ashland.

On May 25, 1940, in Eugene, she married Ronald Howard Gandee, who died Oct. 9, 1988.

From 1935, when she started teaching in Central Point, Mrs. Gandee taught, starting in the second grade in Central Point, and continuing in Junction City and Oak Grove in Medford, from which she retired in June 1977. Her years at Oak Grove were from 1944 to 1977, with one break.

She received the Teacher of the Year award.

Mrs. Gandee was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, First Christian Church, Reames Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of which she served as both worthy matron and secretary, and Zuleima, Daughters of the Nile.

Survivors include a son, Ron G., Medford; a sister, Virginia Cooke, Medford; and three grandchildren. A son, Greg K., died Sept. 7, 1997.

Alice Ricks

The memorial service for Alice Ricks will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Central Point. Pastor Dwayne Brown will officiate.

Mrs. Ricks, 93, of Central Point, died Friday (Jan. 16, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504, or to the First Presbyterian Church Youth Program, 456 Pine St., Central Point, OR 97502.

She was born Alice Barker on July 22, 1904, in Riverton, Coos County.

On Aug. 12, 1921, in Medford, she married Walter C. Ricks, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ricks was the oldest living survivor of the Applegate Trail Pioneers.

She was an ordained elder and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Central Point, and had served as president of the Women's Association and the Church Mission Strategy Team.

For more than 60 years, she was a member of Jackson County Home Extension, a 47-year member of Central Point Grange, a past president of the Junior Garden Club of Oregon, chairman of the 4-H Leaders Association, and a member of the Central Point Garden Club and Jackson County Pomona Grange.

Survivors include a son, Chet, Central Point; two daughters, Virginia Sibley, Phoenix, and Margaret Corliss, Florence; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Grant M. Blake

Grant M. Blake, 77, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 17, 1998) in a Brookings care facility. No service is planned.

He was born March 7, 1920, in St. Anthony, Idaho.

Mr. Blake served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a barber, and operated a barber shop for 10 years in the Grand Hotel in Medford.

Mr. Blake lived in Medford for 30 years, moving to Brookings in 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Blake, Kent, Wash.; two daughters, Susan Hansen, Brookings, and Sharlla Barnett, Kent; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Scantlin's Brookings Mortuary Chapel, Brookings.

Richard S. Brown

Richard Steven Brown, 40, of Grants Pass, died Monday (Jan. 19, 1998) at his home. The service will be announced later.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday in Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

He was born April 3, 1957, in Burbank, Calif., and grew up in North Hollywood, Calif.

A graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in business administration, Mr. Brown did graduate studies in counseling at Pepperdine University.

He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Mr. Brown was a therapist in private practice, and was a salesman for Lippert's Carpet in Grants Pass and Larson's Appliance in Roseburg.

In 1985, he married Holly Pickle in Los Angeles. They moved to Grants Pass in 1995.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Grants Pass. He enjoyed electronics, music, camping, and Hot Wheel models.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Richard R. Brown and Jean Mears, Central Point; a sister, Nikki Venice, Murrieta, Calif.; and a grandmother, Marguerite Franks, Ventura, Calif. His mother, Annette Aguilar, died in 1986.
