Viola M. Schwab
Viola M. Schwab, 87, formerly of Central Point, died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 1997) at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley, Idaho. Her home was in Burley.
The funeral was held in the Burley West Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Burley.
She was born Viola Manning on March 23, 1910, in Hooper, Utah. The family moved to the Burley area in 1914 and she graduated from Burley High School.
On July 3, 1942, in American Falls, Idaho, she married Howard L. Schwab, who survives.
Mrs. Schwab attended the Utah Agriculture College in Logan, Utah, the University of Idaho at Moscow, a Los Angeles college, and graduated from Southern Oregon College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
She taught school in Oregon and Idaho.
Mrs. Schwab was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed flowers, quilting and crocheting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Merlin and Gary, both Medford; a daughter, Beverly Hinkson, Kelso, Wash.; two sisters, Virginia Bell, Kent, Wash., and Dona Rose Fenton, Burley; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Howard; four brothers; and three sisters.

John Fatt
The funeral for Jung "John" Jone Fatt will be at 8 a.m. Sunday at Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Grants Pass.
Mr. Fatt, 93, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Jan. 21, 1998) at his home.
He was born March 10, 1904, in Canton, China.
Orphaned as a child, in 1917 he moved to Omaha, Neb., to live with an uncle. He worked in the uncle's laundry business, putting himself through school and earning a degree in electrical engineering.
In 1930, he returned to China to marry Zhu Huang, but they were forced to separate soon afterward for political reasons. Although the couple was not reunited until 1992, he financially supported her.
Mr. Fatt returned to the United States, moving to Portland, where he worked as a shipyard electrician and welder during World War II.
In 1943, he was involved in a construction accident that took his sight.
In 1946, he moved to Medford, where he lived with the family of the late Wally Wong, father of Cathy Wong Lime, and worked at the Wong's restaurant, Chungking Inn, 28 N. Front St.
In 1975, he moved to Grants Pass with his godchild, Wing Fung Fong, who opened the China Hut restaurant. The name was suggested by Fatt.
They later opened China Hut II in Medford.
When Mrs. Fatt arrived from China they made their home in Grants Pass.
Mr. Fatt helped high school students attend college through tutoring and financial support.
He enjoyed Longfellow's poems, building radios, collecting stamps and coins, and playing the violin and dominoes.
Survivors include his wife, his godchild, and his godchild's two children.

Glendora Grace Kane
Glendora Grace Kane, 97, of Talent, died Wednesday (Jan. 21, 1998) at Hearthstone. A private service is planned.
She was born Glendora Brunemer on July 7, 1910, in Mina, N.D.
In 1927, in New Westminster, B.C., she married Robert Dean Kane, who died in 1959. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946 and to Portland in 1948.
Mrs. Kane graduated from Burlington, Wash., High School.
She was a beautician at Arnold's Beauty Salon in Portland for 30 years. After retiring in 1974 she returned to the Rogue Valley.
She was an award-winning quilter.
Survivors include two sons, Richard D., Phoenix, and Donald L., Grants Pass; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Zelda Bella Skinner
The memorial service for Zelda Bella Skinner will be at 3 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Central Point.
Pastor Damon McCoy will officiate.
Mrs. Skinner, 94, of Central Point, died Thursday (Jan. 22, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 100 Oak St., Central Point, OR 97502.
She was born Zelda Curtis on Jan. 22, 1904, in Wheatland, Wyo.
On Sept. 14, 1921, in Wheatland, she married Minor E. Skinner, who preceded her in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1934 from Wyoming.
Mrs. Skinner was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Central Point, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Medford Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts.
Survivors include two sons, Floyd, White City, and Charles, Bend; six daughters, Maxine Beebe, Charlotte Grigsby, and Darlene Peabody, all Central Point, and Shirley Wilkins, Betty Konopasek, and Sandra Weaver, all Medford; 21 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert L.; three brothers; four sisters; and three grandchildren.

Jane Bertzel Campbell
Jane Bertzel Campbell, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 17, 1998) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.
She was born Jane Miller on Sept. 13, 1914, in Hamilton, Ontario.
Mrs. Campbell moved to Medford three years ago from Melbourne, Fla.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Hoy, Medford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Carl Campbell, died in 1976.

Effie Viola Blackburn
The funeral for Effie Viola Blackburn will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Church of God Holiness in Rogue River. Private interment will be in Woodville Cemetery, Rogue River.
Mrs. Blackburn, 95, of Rogue River, died Tuesday (Jan. 20, 1998) at the Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Grants Pass.
She was born Nov. 7, 1902, in Rogue River, the daughter of William and Ida Laws.
On May 23, 1920, in Rogue River, she married James Blackburn, who died in 1929.
Mrs. Blackburn was a member of the Church of God Holiness and enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Survivors include a daughter, Orva Cruse, Rogue River; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.
Muriel Ruth Rose
The funeral for Muriel Ruth Rose will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass. The Rev. B.J. Holland will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Rose, 76, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Jan. 20, 1998) at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
She was born Muriel Stocks on April 26, 1921, in Dubuque, Iowa, and the family moved to the Rogue Valley six years later.
In 1937, she was crowned the first Miss Jackson County and was chosen to present flowers to Eleanor Roosevelt at the Medford Airport. That same year she also graduated from Medford High School.
Mrs. Rose completed pre-nursing courses at Southern Oregon Normal School in 1939.
She worked for Greater Oregon Health for 25 years, retiring in 1987.
In 1945, she joined Nevita Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Central Point, then in 1956 became affiliated with Josephine Chapter in Grants Pass. She was worthy matron 1963-1964, then worthy grand matron of Oregon 10 years later. She was a state officer for five years. She was guardian of Job's Daughters, Bethel 71, and a honorary member of Bethel 13.
Mrs. Rose also was a Girl Scout leader.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafts, and entertaining.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis "Bud" Rose; two daughters, Pamela Rose Roberts, Veneta, and Sandra Woodward, Roseburg; two brothers, Kenneth Stocks, Coos Bay, and Ardo Stocks, Bremerton, Wash.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Eva Mae Z. Holladay
The memorial service for Eva Mae Zevenia Holladay will be at 6 p.m. Monday in the Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sterling Cemetery, Jacksonville.
Mrs. Holladay, 71, of Rogue River, died Friday (Jan. 16, 1998) at her home.
She was born Eva Mae Zevenia on March 12, 1926, in Manhattan, N.Y.
In 1945, in New York City, she married J.W. "Doc" Holladay, who died in 1994.
Mrs. Holladay was a legal assistant for Perry Mason, a New York attorney, and for the New York Board of Education.
She lived in the Rogue Valley for the past 13 years, spending two years in Medford and 10 years in Grants Pass before moving to Rogue River eight months ago.
Mrs. Holladay was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church in Columbia, S.C., for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Holladay, Rogue River; a son, John, Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A son, Terry, died in 1974; and a grandson in 1988.
