Virginia M. Harnes
Virginia Mae Harnes, 88, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (Jan. 22, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service was held.

She was born Virginia Banks on May 6, 1909, in Ottumwa, Iowa.
On May 16, 1937, in Los Angeles, she married Milton M. Harnes, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Harnes enjoyed crocheting and flower gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Salli Houston, Eagle Point, and Susan Janet McGahuey, Phoenix; a son, Jerry D., Thousand Oaks, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Paul and Eugene Banks, preceded her in death.

Hazel E. Ferreira
The memorial service for Hazel Emmajean Ferreira was held Sunday in First Presbyterian Church, Ashland.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home and Cemetery, Hayward, Calif.

Mrs. Ferreira, 83, of Ashland, died Friday (Jan. 23, 1998) at the Ashland Community Hospital.
She was born Hazel Beckwith on Jan. 30, 1914, in Sturgis, Mich. The family moved to South Sioux City, Neb., in 1922.
In 1936, she moved to Chowchilla, Calif. On Aug. 10, 1948, at Oakland, Calif., she married August C. Ferreira, who died in 1986.
They moved to Oakland, where they owned and operated the Hilltop Market and she was a member of the United Methodist Church. They moved to Murphys in 1962, where she was a dressmaker and taught continuing education classes in sewing. A member of the First Congregational Church in Murphys, she was active in its Sewing Guild and was secretary of the Murphys Community Club for 30 years.
She moved to Ashland in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine A. Spierings, Ashland; a son, Richard Beith, Danville, Calif.; two sisters, Alberta Loree Hazen, Union City, Calif., and Dorothy M. Brandon, Murphys; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Alice I. Milam
Alice Irene Milam, 56, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 22, 1998) at her home. A private service was held.
She was born Alice Weedman on Aug. 4, 1941, in Galesburg, Ill.
In April of 1996 in Grants Pass, she married Edward W. Milam, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Milam enjoyed the ocean and her bunko group.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Alice Milam, Medford, and Elizabeth "Kay" Thompson, Kent, Wash.; a brother, John W. Weedman Jr., Avondale, Ariz.; two sisters, Roseanna Stamat, Flushing Queens, N.Y., and Anita Rice, Show Low, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Ferroll V. McCulley
Ferroll Viola McCulley, 92, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. No service is planned.

She was born April 16, 1905, in Jacksonville, a daughter of James and Rosa Rock.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Gordon Allard, Medford; a sister, Martha Fipps, Medford; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph McCulley; three brothers; and two sisters preceded her in death.

Cornelia E. Nepper
The service for Cornelia E. Nepper will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Wash. Interment will be in the Post Cemetery, Vancouver.
Mrs. Nepper, 75, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 23, 1998) in Vancouver.

She was born Feb. 13, 1922, Cornelia O.Connell on Feb. 13, 1922, in Denver. She was a 1941 graduate of North Denver High School.
On May 5, 1945, in Denver, she married Christopher A. Nepper, who survives.
He was in the U.S. Air Force and the couple lived in Germany, England, and throughout the United States before he retired and they moved to Medford in 1965.
The couple built and operated Rogue Valley Nursing Center near Phoenix. They later sold it and then had the Sunshine Rest Home near the Ashland Community Hospital.
They moved to Vancouver in 1990 to be near their children.
Mrs. Nepper enjoyed cooking, gardening and the Denver Broncos football team.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Christopher J., Portland, and Paul, Sparks, Nev.; a daughter, Mary Orr, Vancouver; a brother, Robert O'Connell, Denver; a sister, Mae Slaughenhoup, Denver; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Robert E. James
Robert Edward James, 72, of Phoenix, died Tuesday (Jan. 20, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Detroit.
On Feb. 22, 1997, in Medford, he married Lee D. Horn, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 1 years ago from Woodinville, Wash.
Mr. James, a graduate of the University of California, was a supervisor of computer systems installations for IBM and Singer Co., retiring in 1990.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was member of the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five daughters, Nancy Callaway, Palmdale, Calif., Cindy Reynolds, Rancho Cucomongo, Calif., Debbie James, Moreno Valley, Calif., Pam James, Auburn, Wash., and Christine Poirier, Bothell, Wash.; two sons, Craig, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Robert, San Diego, Calif.; two stepchildren, J.D. Horn, Medford, and Kim D. Horn, White City; a brother, Tom, Las Vegas, Nev.; and 17 grandchildren.

Jean L. Bentley
The graveside service for Jean L. Bentley will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Bentley, 72, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Jan. 22, 1998) at Hillside Heights Center in Eugene.
She was born Jean Lepley on Dec. 7, 1925, in Farmington, Mich.
On Sept. 5, 1958, in Rialto, Calif., she married Albert "Al" Bentley, who survives. They lived in Grants Pass for 24 years, moving to Eugene last month.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Grants Pass. She enjoyed volunteer work, bowling, crafts, and painting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Andy Rollins, Palm Bay, Fla., Don Robbins, Eugene, and David Rollins, Silverton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Iva Dane Hill
Iva Dane Hill, 96, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 23, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. A private service is planned.
She was born Iva Dane Campbell on March 10, 1901, in Garfield, Ark.
On April 27, 1920, in Colorado Springs, she married Fred Hill, who preceded her in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in the 1940s.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting and gardening.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Gilbert Quitt and David Quitt, both Jacksonville, and William Quitt and Arlene Morgan, both Medford; six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Iola Riley, two sisters, and three brothers preceded her in death.

Margaret E. Hampton
Margaret E. Hampton, 80, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Jan. 20, 1998) in Ashland. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
She was born Margaret Elizabeth Dixon on Feb. 15, 1917, in Greenville, Ill.
On Oct. 26, 1940, in Falls City, Neb., she married Gerald Hampton, who died in May 1997. They moved to the Rogue Valley 29 years ago from Victorville, Calif.
Survivors include a daughter, Midge Gentieu, Cambria, Calif; and a sister, Betty Huddelston, Panama, Ill. A brother, Bill Dixon; and a sister, June Dixon, preceded her in death.
