Stephen Cardoza
The funeral for Stephen Cardoza will be at 2 p.m. today in the Perl Funeral Services Chapel.
Mr. Cardoza, 47, of Central Point, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at his home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Ave., Suite 203, Evanston, IL 60202-1375.
He was born Dec. 15, 1950, in San Jose, Calif.
On April 26, 1986, in Central Point, he married Catherine Liston, who survives.
He attended Phoenix schools, graduating in 1970 from Phoenix High School.
Mr. Cardoza owned a hunting and guide service in Montana during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He managed Majors Sports Center in Medford, and at the time of his death was with Guaranty RV in Junction City. Earlier he worked for UPS for 15 years.
He was a member of the Northwest Wild Turkey Federation and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Nora Blackwell, Casey Lynch, and Stephanie Cardoza, all Central Point; two sons, Shane and Stephen, both Central Point; his parents, Anthony and Lorraine Cardoza, Central Point; three brothers, Robert, Jacksonville, Dave, Eagle Point, and Wayne, Woodland, Wash.; a sister, Gayle Dunlap, Butte Falls; and eight grandchildren.

Glendora Grace Kane
Glendora Grace Kane, 87, of Talent, died Wednesday (Jan. 21, 1998) at Hearthstone. A private service is planned.
She was born Glendora Brunemer on July 7, 1910, in Minot, N.D.
In 1927, in New Westminster, B.C., she married Robert Dean Kane, who died in 1959. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946 and to Portland in 1948.
Mrs. Kane graduated from Burlington, Wash., High School.
She was a beautician at Arnold's Beauty Salon in Portland for 30 years. After retiring in 1974 she returned to the Rogue Valley. She was an award-winning quilter.
Survivors include two sons, Richard D., Phoenix, and Donald L., Grants Pass; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Lavina Reed Peterson
The graveside service for Lavina Reed Peterson will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens, Medford. The funeral was held Monday in Midvale, Utah. She moved to Midvale in 1973.
Mrs. Peterson, 86, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) in Sandy, Utah.
She was born Lavina Reed on Aug. 28, 1911, in Lark, Utah.
On Dec. 2, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, she married David L. Peterson, who died Jan. 30, 1968. They moved to Medford in 1945.
Survivors include two sons, Clayton, Layton, Utah, and David, Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Kristine Peterson, Midvale, Utah; a sister, Dorothy Rushton, Sandy; two brothers, Kenten Reed, Sandy, and Floyd Reed, St. George, Utah; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A son, Barry, died in July 1969.

Andrew J. Bowman
The memorial service for Andrew J. Bowman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Siskiyou Memorial Park. Stan Johnson of the West Main Church of Christ will officiate.
Mr. Bowman, 80, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 22, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
He was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Romeo, Colo.
He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987.
Mr. Bowman, who served in the military from 1936 until 1952, served in the National Guard, U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, and the U.S. Navy, where he was a chief radio technician and electrical technician.
He was a power system control craftsman for more than 25 years with Bonneville Power Administration in Washington state, retiring July 26, 1975.
Mr. Bowman was a rockhound.
Survivors include three sons, Dale E., Gary D., and Lyle G. His first wife, Lillian, who he married Aug. 11, 1940, in Taos, N.M., died Feb. 3, 1989, and his second wife, Louise, who he married June 2, 1989, in Reno, Nev., died Jan. 28, 1995. He also was preceded in death by a son, Roy.

Ruth Messal
Herman Messal
The memorial service for Ruth Gustine Messal and Herman Messal will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel. The Rev. David Keil of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Central Point will officiate. Private nicheside interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Messal, 81, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Mr. Messal died Jan. 22, 1997.

She was born Ruth Kretzschmar on Nov. 18, 1916, in Holstein, Iowa.
On May 26, 1937, in Chehalis, Wash., she married Herman Messal. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1961 from Lebanon, where they had lived for 20 years.
The Messals owned and operated a Studebaker dealership, a service station and an auto repair shop in Lebanon.
In Medford, they owned Messal Auto Service, where she was the office manager.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Messal enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening and dancing.
Survivors include a son, Glenn, Medford; two daughters, Connie Greb, Medford, and Janet Messal, Fort Bragg, Calif.; a sister, Ethel Boggs, Portsmouth, Ohio; and a grandson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Anderson.

Robert Bradley Slagle
The memorial service for Robert Bradley Slagle will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Grants Pass Stake Center, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friends are asked to write stories or memories of him and bring them to share, then leave for a memory book of his life.
Mr. Slagle, 72, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) of cancer, at his home.

He was born March, 30, 1925, in Talent, the son of Henry and Sarah Slagle.
He grew up in Talent and attended Talent High School.
During World War II, Mr. Slagle served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the First Air Wing in the South Pacific.
He moved to Brookings in 1948.
On June 8, 1950, in Reno, he married Margaret Byrne, who survives.
Mr. Slagle, who started R.B. Slagle Trucking in 1964, was in the log hauling business for more than 50 years. He hauled for Spalding and Son of Grants Pass for 30 years.
He was vice president and director of the Southern Oregon Timber Industries Association, receiving its Whistle Punk honor in 1990. He was state president of the Oregon Forest Products Transportation Association, receiving its Meritorious Service award. He was involved in timber industry rallies in Oregon, Idaho, Washington, California, Montana and Indiana.
He also helped organize the Silver Fire Roundup in 1989.
Mr. Slagle served on the Rogue Community College heavy equipment advisory committee and was a past president of Southern Oregon Resources Alliance.
In 1991, he was the Grants Pass Josephine County Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year.
A diesel racing enthusiast, he set a land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats at 212 mph in 1992. In 1996 he was the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association Man of the Year.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Mike, Grants Pass; two daughters, Kathy Madsen, San Diego, Calif., and Betty DenBleyker, Houston, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Harroun, Harbor; and 11 grandchildren. A son, Steve, died in 1980.

Bernie F. Bridwell
The graveside service for Bernie Franklin Bridwell will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Siskiyou Memorial Park. Stan Johnson will officiate.
Mr. Bridwell, 87, of Central Point, died Friday (Jan. 23, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
He was born March 23, 1910, in March, Mo.
On March 21, 1953, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Minnie Vickers, who died May 13, 1966. He moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago from Auburn, Calif.
Mr. Bridwell grew up in Oklahoma and for 35 years was a parts inspector for Ryan Aeronautics in San Diego. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Ann Sullivan, Marysville, Wash.; two sisters, Doris Lilly Landrith, Central Point, and Mary Pittsenbarger, Spencer, Okla.; eight step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Five brothers, Charles Oren, Forrest Arthur, Chalice Milton, Glen Oscar, and Harold Wayne, preceded him in death.
