Lanse Rolene Pitts
Lanse Rolene Pitts, 79, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 1998) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland following heart surgery. His home was in Newberg. Cremation has been held.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mountain View Estates Mobile Home Park recreation hall in Newberg.

Mr. Pitts was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Holbrook, Ariz., a son of Jennie and Houston Pitts. The family moved to Medford in 1927.
He attended Medford schools and was a 1938 graduate of Medford High School. He was a pitcher on the MHS baseball team.
During World War II, Mr. Pitts served in the Army Air Forces as a B-24 Liberator bomber pilot, flying numerous missions against Japanese forces in the Pacific Theater.
In 1944, in Medford, he married Barbara Fleischer, who died in 1991.
After the war, Mr. Pitts was in real estate and farming. He was one of the original brokers who founded RealEstaters. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he operated an organic produce farm, Universal Gardens, on East Barnett Road.
He had been a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Temple Medford AF&AM.
He was a resident of the Rogue Valley for nearly 60 years.
In 1992, he married the former Carmine "Cardy" Humphries in Newberg, who survives.
He enjoyed golf and puttering in the garden.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Gerald, Prospect, and Curtis, Oxnard, Calif.; a daughter, Susan McEachern, Portland; two sisters, Louise Medicus, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Janice Powell, Phoenix; two brothers, Champ, Santa Maria, Calif., and Houston, Lacey, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Milton.

Louis R. Lanier Jr.
Louis Robert Lanier Jr., 70, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 1998) in Grants Pass. No service is planned.

He was born May 25, 1927, in Ontario, Calif.
He worked for General Telephone in Los Angeles for 40 years.
On June 28, 1969, he married Brenda J. Joseph, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from Los Angeles.
Mr. Lanier was a member of the Optimists and Lions clubs in California.
He served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six sons, Chris Lanier, Fontana, Calif., Dana Lanier, Redlands, Calif., Kevin Lanier, Portland, Keith Webb, Phoenix, Jack Bransford, Seattle, and Jon Bransford, Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Mary Mortonsen, Pomona, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry.

Bruce George Baker
The graveside service for Bruce George Baker will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.
Mr. Baker, 97, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 26, 1998) in Medford.

He was born July 7, 1900, in Manistique, Mich.
In 1923, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he married Hanna K. Cummings, who died April 1, 1981. Later in The Philippines he married Helen Berginio, who died Aug. 4, 1994.
Mr. Baker moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from California.
He was an electrician for the federal government for 40 years, first for the U.S. Marine Corps and later for the U.S. Navy at Mare Island Navy Shipyards.
Mr. Baker was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medford.
Survivors include three sons, Hollis and Bruce George Jr., both Fremont, Calif., and Byron, Carson, Calif.; a daughter, Lillian Macedo, Hayward, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Loe Menezes and Charlotte Kunza; a son, Clarence; a brother; and three sisters.
Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford.
Bonnie Irene Lippert
The funeral for Bonnie Irene Lippert will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Pastor James Downing will officiate.
Mrs. Lippert, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at Highland House Care Center in Grants Pass.
She was born Bonnie Irene Berry on Nov. 30, 1914, in Dunsmuir, Calif.
On June 3, 1935, in Reno, Nev., she married Ed Lippert, who survives. They moved to Williams in 1955 from Watsonville, Calif.
The Lipperts co-founded Lippert's Carpet in the Rogue Valley.
She enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing the piano.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Wes, Grants Pass, and Norman, Sandpoint, Idaho; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Babe McCrosky
"Babe" Muriel Erma McCrosky, 78, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at her home. A private service is planned.

She was born Muriel Erma Wing on March 28, 1919, in Kodiak, Alaska.
On March 28, 1940, in Monterey Park, Calif., she married Donald H. McCrosky, who survives. They lived in Wilderville for 30 years before moving to Medford last year.
Mrs. McCrosky was a self-employed beautician for 30 years.
Her husband, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, and they lived in Guam, England, Virginia and California.
Mrs. McCrosky was a member of the Redwood Christian Church.
She enjoyed music, whistling, gardening and helping people.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Shendell Klumph, Medford, Clavell Stutzman, Salem, and Donell Kane, Palm City, Fla.; three sons, Michael, Wilderville, Markell, Diamond Lake, and Darryl, Roseburg; a brother, Lowell Wing, Brookings; a sister, Elsie Tucker in Ohio; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Wing.

Suzanne E. Knox
Suzanne Elizabeth Knox, 75, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service was held.
She was born Suzanne Elizabeth Lewis on Sept. 10, 1922, in Portland.
She married Theron "Ted" Gleason, a fighter pilot, who was killed during World War II.
On March 10, 1948, in Alexandria, Va., she married John J. Knox, who died in 1971.
She attended Oregon State College, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority.
Mrs. Knox was a legal secretary for more than 20 years.
She was a member of Mended Hearts in Medford, the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary and was a volunteer in the Smullin Center Library from 1991 to 1994.
Mrs. Knox enjoyed reading, camping, walking and birdwatching.
Survivors include a son, David M., Medford; a daughter, Sandra L. Kirsch, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson.

Doris Belle Perry
Doris Belle Perry, 83, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 1998) at a residential care home. No service is planned.
She was born Doris Belle Perry on Nov. 27, 1914, in Arlington, Ariz.
Ms. Perry graduated from the University of Arizona with master's degrees in art and teaching.
She taught art and English at various public schools, including Eagle Point School District.
Ms. Perry enjoyed horseback riding, oil painting and sculpting.
Survivors include a brother, Larry Perry, Eagle Point. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Clair Warren Stumbo
The graveside service for Clair Warren Stumbo will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Stumbo, 76, of Talent, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 1998) in Ashland Community Hospital.

He was born March 21, 1921, in Foots Creek, the son of Clair and Josie Stumbo. He grew up in Foots Creek.
Mr. Stumbo served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Oct. 13, 1956, in Reno, Nev., he married Evelynne M. Boyd, who survives.
Mr. Stumbo operated the Stay Bright sign company and the Allied Neon Sign Company, both in Medford, during the 1950s and 1960s.
He lived in Grants Pass from 1970 to 1992, before moving to Talent.
Mr. Stumbo was a real estate agent for Erickson Realty for several years, retiring in 1980.
He raised quarter horses and enjoyed hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a sister, Genevie Thorne, San Diego, Calif.
