Anna Scheel Stark
Anna Scheel Stark, 79, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 3, 1998) in Oliver, B.C. Her home was in Oliver.
She was born April 16, 1917, in Wisconsin. The family moved to Medford, where she grew up and attended school.
While a student at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, she met Kenneth Stark, whom she married in Medford in 1941.
The Starks moved to Canada, where he continued medical school in Montreal, Quebec.
The couple served 25 years as missionaries in Swaziland, Africa, and one year as medical missionaries in India.
After her husband's death in 1984, Mrs. Stark lived in Victoria, B.C., before moving to Oliver in 1993.
Survivors include a son, John Stark; three daughters, Barb Taggert, Flora Linda Fargo, and Helen Anne Reimer; four sisters, Helen Von Stein, Mabel Johnson, Flora Hegarty, and Janet Peters; a brother, Loren Scheel; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Nellie Sivak Kiska
The funeral for Nellie Sivak Kiska will be Saturday at the Price Funeral Home Chapel, North Palm Beach, Fla. Interment will be in Royal Palm Memorial Garden.
Mrs. Kiska, 84, of Medford, died Monday (Feb. 2, 1998) at her home.
She was born Aug. 24, 1913, in Passaic, N.J.
On Jan. 7, 1932, in Lorain, Ohio, she married Fabian Kiska, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kiska moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984 from Lake Park, Fla.
She was a member of the Wimer Garden Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9610, and earlier was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Riviera, Fla.
Mrs. Kiska enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Gohde, Medford; and two brothers, John Sivak and Mickey Sivak, both in Ohio. She was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Sivak; and three sisters, Mae Finlayson, June Sugarik, and Marie Foist.

Robert Wayne Akins
The funeral for Robert Wayne Akins will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford. Pastor Andy Green of the Ashland Christian Fellowship officiated. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Akins, 51, of Medford, died Monday (Feb. 2, 1998) at his home.

He was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Seattle.
Mr. Akins moved to the Rogue Valley in 1965 from Eugene.
After working 19 years with Boise Cascade, in 1983 he became owner and operator of Clean Sweep Pool Service in Medford.
Mr. Akins was a member of the Ashland Christian Fellowship and attended Applegate Christian Fellowship and Rogue River Community Church.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and collecting Holstein cow items.
Survivors include a son, Jim Wayne, Jacksonville; a daughter, Shannon Rae Kirkpatrick, Shreveport, La.; his father, James L., Central Point; and two sisters, Sandra LaVonne Nelson, Gold Hill, and Janet Lynn Malvini, Medford. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anita LaVonne Akins.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Conger-Morris Medford Chapel.
Ronald V. Saunders
Ronald Victor Saunders, 81, longtime district manager of A.E. Staley Co. in Medford, died Monday (Jan. 26, 1998) in Grand Junction, Colo. His home was in Grand Junction.
The memorial service was held Saturday in the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Welch, Okla. The Rev. Paul Wilson officiated. Interment was in the Welch Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Newaygo, Mich.
On Nov. 4, 1938, he married Jeanne Dixon, who died July 11, 1979. The couple lived in Welch, where they owned and operated the Welch Cafe.
During World War II, Mr. Saunders ran the food services for the U.S. Army Air Corps at Fallon Field, Nev., and was involved with the Alaskan Highway Project.
In 1959, Mr. Saunders formulated the molasses block for cattle feed, greatly impacting the industry.
After moving to Medford in 1965, he was a sales representative and later district manager for the A.E. Staley Co. of Decatur, Ill., until retiring in 1988.
He moved to Madison, Wis., in 1991, and to Grand Junction, Colo., in 1992.
Mr. Saunders enjoyed traveling and spending time at his condo in Florida.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Saunders Harpole, Grand Junction; two sons, Ronald Stephen, Pasadena, Calif., and John Robert, Phelan, Calif.; two brothers, Henry B., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Robert, Noble, Okla.; three sisters, Margaret Marcinowski, Esther Adams and Elaine Goodale, all Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edith Marian Strawn
The memorial service for Edith Marian Strawn will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Medford. The Rev. Dr. Joyce DeGraaff will officiate.
Mrs. Strawn, 81, of Medford, died Jan. 23, 1998, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Edith Marian Ball on Nov. 3, 1916, in San Diego.
Mrs. Strawn moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from San Diego.
On Dec. 27, 1986, in Medford, she married William W. Strawn, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Strawn was a member of the Crater Lioness Club and the Order of the Eastern Star in Medford.
She was also a member of the Eastern Star in Buena Park, Calif., Job's Daughters in Alhambra, Calif., a life member of the Mayflower Society in San Diego, and a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mojave Chapter.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria D. Haveriland, Gothenburg, Neb.; four sisters, Barbara Jane Strawn, Medford, Millicent Rose Thompson, Bonita, Calif., Margaret Mary Walden, Fountain Valley, Calif., and Bylle Virginia McCall, Stanton, Calif.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Clemence Waggoner III; and a grandson, both in 1964.

Roland `Jack' Pope
Roland "Jack" Pope, 73, of Medford, a longtime teacher at what is now McLoughlin Middle School, died Monday (Feb. 2, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

He was born April 7, 1924, in Olympia, Wash., and was raised in Medford. He was a 1942 graduate of Medford Senior High School, where he played tennis and football.
Mr. Pope served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees in the Marshall Islands during World War II.
On Dec. 26, 1949, in Ashland, he married M. Jean Harden, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.
Mr. Pope graduated from Southern Oregon College in 1950 with a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. While in college, he was an inspector for the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
He taught at Myrtle Creek Elementary School from 1950 to 1954, when he returned to Medford. While in Myrtle Creek, he coached high school basketball.
Mr. Pope taught at Roosevelt Elementary School in 1954. He began teaching at McLoughlin Junior High School in 1956, retiring in 1982. At McLoughlin he coached football.
He was a member of the Ashland Elks Club.
Mr. Pope enjoyed golf, traveling, gardening and sports.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Rhonda Pope, Medford; a son, Michael, Bakersfield, Calif.; his stepmother, Faye Pope, Newberg; a stepsister, Diana Reinen, Newberg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Leona Cobb
Leona Cobb, 95, of Talent, died Saturday (Jan. 31, 1998) in Ashland. No service is planned.
She was born Leona Lewis on Sept. 4, 1902, in Fredonia, Kan.
On Dec. 13, 1932, in Billings, Mont., she married Sherman Cobb, who died in April of 1988. They lived in Miles City, Mont. until 1962. They later lived in Bozeman, Mont. and Mesa, Ariz., before moving to Ashland in 1972. They moved to Talent in 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Merwood Johnson, Kent, Wash., and Jay Johnson, Titusville, Fla.; four sisters, all Canada; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Anne Boschen, in May of 1991.

Roland R. Holmes
The memorial service for Roland R. Holmes will be at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Lehmann Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery.
Mr. Holmes, 91, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 31, 1998) at his home.

He was born Sept. 17, 1906, in Hollister, Calif., and moved to the Rogue Valley as a young man in 1920.
On Nov. 18, 1934, in Medford, he married Minnie Joann Hueners, who died May 5, 1995.
Mr. Holmes delivered milk for Southern Oregon County Dairyman for 66 years. He was a member of the Oregon Dairy Industry, and received an award from them for his continued service to dairymen.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Mr. Holmes enjoyed training horses, gardening, reading and helping people in need.
Survivors include a son, Curtis, Medford; a daughter, Joann Wells, Medford; three sisters, Ellen Gardner, Sun City, Ariz., Lucille Cole, Yuma, Ariz., and Dorothy Portalgul, Eureka, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
