Marie Viola Burgess
Marie Viola Burgess, 87, of Medford, died Sunday (March 8, 1998) in Medford. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Garden Chapel Cemetery in Sacramento, Calif.

She was born Marie Viola Powell on April 9, 1910, in Akeley, Minn.
On Feb. 8, 1930, in Klamath Falls, she married Hugh H. Burgess, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 from Sacramento.
Mrs. Burgess enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Hawley, Medford; a brother, Marshall Powell, Phoenix; a sister, Pearl Isensee, Crosby, Minn.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by five sisters and one grandson.

Dot Delene Van Lehn
The funeral for Dorothy "Dot" Delene Van Lehn will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Church of the Nazarene in Medford. Pastor Kevin Gowland will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Van Lehn, 81, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (March 7, 1998) at her home in Albany. She moved to Albany in May of 1997.

She was born Dorothy Delene Nice on June 6, 1916, in Springfield, where she graduated from high school.
Mrs. Van Lehn attended Oregon State University.
On Nov. 18, 1961, in Vancouver, Wash., she married Howard Watson Van Lehn, who died in July 1996. They moved to the Rogue Valley 24 years ago.
Mrs. Van Lehn was a key punch operator for the Lane County Courthouse, retiring in 1971. After retiring, she and her husband travelled to all but three states.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford and attended the Church of the Nazarene and Plainview Mennonite in Albany.
Mrs. Van Lehn enjoyed gardening, sewing, and readingg.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharen Lee Poynter, Lakeland, Fla.; a son, Steven Richard Prochnow, Albany; two stepsons, Tom Van Lehn, Ashland, and Jerry Van Lehn, St. George, Utah; two brothers, Bob Nice, Springfield, and Meryl Frances Nice, Eugene; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Leroy Nice; and a sister, Deloris Nice.

Dorothy Darre Presley
The graveside service for Dorothy Darre Presley will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pastor Chad McComas of Medford will officiate. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Canyonville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Presley, 87, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday (March 7, 1998) at her home in Days Creek.

She was born Dorothy Pinkerton on March 2, 1911, in Roseberry, Idaho. The family then moved to near Ashland, when her grandparents, the Dudley Dollarhides, operated the Dollarhide Toll Road over the Siskiyous from 1897 to 1915, when the public highway was built.
On Feb. 11, 1930, in Burns, she married Floyd Monroe Presley, who survives. They moved to Days Creek 20 years ago from Sonora, Calif.
Mrs. Presley was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Jeanine Redondo, Lubbock, Texas; eight grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Pinkerton.
Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Central Valley Chapel, 800 S. Front St., Central Point.

Andrew `A.V.' Jones
The funeral for Andrew "A.V." Jones will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Conger-Morris Medford Chapel. The Rev. David Croy of First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Jones, 79, of Medford, died Sunday (March 8, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936. He attended Medford High School.
On Oct. 20, 1943, in Tuscaloosa, he married Mary Eleanor Crowder, who survives.
Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked from Timber Products for 19 years, then was a road crew foreman for Jackson County, retiring in 1962.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Rogue Valley Ridge Riders, a Jeep club. He was wagonmaster for the Aristocrat Trailer Club, and was a hunter safety instructor.
He enjoyed bowling and reloading ammunition.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Ron, Medford; three daughters, Patricia Henninger and Nita Jones-Coady, both Central Point, and Beverly Hidde, Eagle Point; a brother, Aaron, Central Point; three sisters, Alice Buckmaster and Gladys Earl, both Medford, and Louise Clark, Shelter Island, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Fanny Thames and Evelyn Leamy.

Edward L. McFarlane
The graveside service for Edward L. McFarlane will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. McFarlane, 73, of Medford, died Sunday (March 8, 1998) at his home.

He was born June 25, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn., and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1940.
Mr. McFarlane served in the U.S. Navy as a boatswain's mate during World War II and was called back to active duty during the Korean War.
He owned and operated Medford Construction Company for 29 years, retiring in 1981.
On Sept. 15, 1979, in Medford, he married Jean L. Hurst, who survives.
Mr. McFarlane was active in the Master Gardener Program, serving as president for two years.
He enjoyed fishing, scuba diving and flying.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Chris, Gary and Tim, all Medford; two daughters, Katy Taylor, Medford, and Susan McFarlane, Santa Rosa, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Debra Chambers, Medford, and Cathy Wild, Portland; three stepsons, Dan Zash, Lincoln City, Greg Zash, Florence, and Terry Zash, King, N.C.; a brother, Russell, in Louisiana; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James.

Mae Alma Criswell
The funeral for Mae Alma Criswell will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Perl Funeral Service-Siskiyou Chapel. David Nealon will officiate. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Criswell, 93, of Medford, died Sunday (March 8, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
She was born Mae Alma Hiatt on March 5, 1905, in Hiattville, Kan., where she grew up. Sixteen years later, the family moved to Holyoke, Colo.
On Sept. 20, 1921, in Holyoke, she married Milton Edgar Criswell, who died Oct. 8, 1957. They farmed in Chappell, Neb., until moving to St. Ignatius, Mont., in 1936 where they had cattle and pigs and raised alfalfa, wheat, and corn.
The couple moved to Salem in 1942, and operated a service station before moving to Medford in 1946.
Mrs. Criswell worked at J.C. Penney in Medford for 14 years, then was a seasonal worker at Rogue River Cannery for seven years.
She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Lou Nixon, Phoenix; two sons, Floyd Lee, Gresham, and Robert Gene, Springfield; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lloyd Dee, in August 1985, and Dale Alfred on April 18, 1995; a stepson, Melvin Virgil, in December 1992; and two grandchildren.

George J. Milliorn
The funeral for George J. Milliorn will be at 10 a.m. today at Perl Funeral Service-Siskiyou Chapel. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
Mr. Milliorn, 58, of Medford, died Friday (March 6, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 19, 1939, in Prineville. He was a 1957 graduate of Crook County High School in Prineville.
Mr. Milliorn moved to Portland and served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban missile crisis as a specialist four.
In Portland, he worked for Fouch Electric until an industrial accident, when he was retrained and worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Mr. Milliorn was a weight master at the Ashland Port of Entry for 21 years, retiring in September 1997.
In Portland, he coached Little League. He was a member of the Ashland Elks Lodge, and past president of the Jaycees.
Mr. Milliorn enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include a sister, Barbara Miller, Portland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack.

Lawrence Holloran
The graveside service for Lawrence Edward Holloran will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Carmelo Mifsud of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Patrick Holloran will officiate.
Mr. Holloran, 72, of Medford, died Friday (March 6, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford.

He was born July 18, 1925, in Enfield, N.H.
On Aug. 28, 1952, in Montana, he married Nadine Graham, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Holloran was a retail clerk and supervisor for Raley's Food Stores. He moved to Medford in 1990 from California.
He enjoyed playing baseball, and had been scouted by the major leagues, and was a Notre Dame football fan.
Survivors include four sons, Daniel and Christopher, both Medford, Patrick, Ferndale, Wash., and Timothy, Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Michel Holloran, Medford, and Charlotte Holloran, Sacramento; a brother, Bernard, Sacramento; a sister, Barbara Leathers, Sacramento; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Peg Darst.
