Charles E. Gosha
Charles E. Gosha, 88, of Phoenix, died Sunday (April 26, 1998) at his home. No service is planned. Private interment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

He was born March 3, 1910, in Fort Collins, Colo. The family moved to the Rogue Valley 12 years later.
From 1939 to 1947, he served in the U.S. Navy and was later an officer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Mr. Gosha worked for General Machine Shop for 27 years.
He was a member of the Sam's Ramblin Roams, a Good Sam Club.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Gosha, Phoenix; two sons, Gary, Tualatin, and Bill, in Washington; two stepdaughters, Collette Gardener, Phoenix, and Coleene Tejcka, Medford; and serval grandchildren.

Robert Warren Doty
The graveside service for Robert Warren Doty will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
A memorial service was held April 18 in the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Spokane, Wash.
Mr. Doty, 58, formerly of Medford, died of cancer Saturday (April 11, 1998) at his home in Cheney, Wash.

He was born July 8, 1939, in Weiser, Idaho.
Mr. Doty attended high school in Pocatello, Idaho, before moving to Medford.
He served 22 years in the U.S. Navy, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He retired a chief petty officer.
In 1973, in Oakland, Calif., he married Barbara Doud, who survives. They lived in San Leandro, Calif., before moving to Cheney in 1977.
Mr. Doty was a salesman from 1979 to 1998 at various car dealerships in the Spokane area.
He was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, James, Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Laurie Willcocks, Houston, Texas; two brothers, Edward and Ernest Hinkle, both Medford; a sister, Leora Kenton, Medford; and two grandchildren.

William Max Mead
The memorial service for William Max Mead will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. J.P. Jones of Eagle Point will officiate. A reception will follow at the Greenbriar Mobile Club House, 301 Freeman Road, Central Point.
Mr. Mead, 75, of Central Point, died Saturday (April 25, 1998) at his home.
He was born July 6, 1922, in Galesburg, Ill.
On Feb. 15, 1949, in Morton Grove, Ill., he married Dorothy Jackson, who preceded him in death.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Mead worked for the CB&Q Railroad in Illinois for nine years, was a restaurant chef for 35 years, and most recently worked for 12 years at the Laurel Hills Golf Club in Gold Hill.
He moved to the Rogue Valley 15 years ago from Pacheco, Calif.
An avid golfer, he was the Laurel Hills men's league winner for the past three years, and an annual memorial golf tournament will be held there in his name.
Survivors include a son, George, Central Point; three daughters, Patricia Homan, San Jose, Calif., and Jean Masterson and Janice Flanders, both in Florida; three brothers, Robert G., Jack W., and Tom W., all Galesburg; three sisters, Barbara Jane Crouse and Sue Ann Hoskins, both Galesburg, and Mary Alice Norris, Fair Oaks, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George W. and Richard K.

Patricia I. Johnson
The graveside service for Patricia Irving Johnson will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Johnson, 64, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (April 25, 1998) at her home.

She was born Patricia Rugh on June 22, 1933, in Pomona, Calif. She grew up and graduated from high school in Claremont, Calif.
In 1951, she married David Edward Irving. They bought a small farm in Eagle Point in 1965, where they lived until his death in 1973.
Later she married Jack David Johnson, who survives. In 1977 they drove his restored 1941 Chevy to Iowa to visit relatives.
In 1986, Mrs. Johnson became a certified audiologist because she enjoyed working with and helping seniors.
Mrs. Johnson enjoyed gardening, writing, and raising animals.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Michael Irving and Scott Irving, both Eagle Point; a daughter, Susan Irving, Portland; her parents, Stanley and Grace Rugh, Medford; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
Dr. William L. Barnum
Dr. William L. Barnum, 81, the second dentist in Oregon to practice children's dentistry, died Wednesday (April 22, 1998) at his Medford home. A memorial service will be held later.

His pediatric dentistry in Portland was recognized nationally, Dr. Barnum's other interest _ journalism _ started while a junior high student in Medford. He was the first editor of the Medford Junior Hi News, at which time he originated the idea to use "Bulldogs"
for the school's mascot. It is still used by McLoughlin Junior High School. He also was editor of "The Crater," the Medford Senior High School's annual in 1935.
During his professional years, he was editor of the Oregon State Dental Journal, the professional dental fraternity's Xi Psi Phi Fraternity Quarterly, and other publications.
He was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Medford, the son of William H. and Jessie Eifert Barnum. His mother was Miss Rogue River Valley in 1906. His father died in the 1918 influenza epidemic. His paternal grandfather, William S. Barnum, built the Grand Hotel in Medford in 1915 and was founder of the Rogue Valley Railroad between Medford and Jacksonville. His maternal grandfather, William W. Eifert, was Medford mayor in 1913. He suffered a fatal heart attack while in office. A great-grandfather, James H. Barnum, who is buried in the Ashland Cemetery, was a second cousin of P.T. Barnum, of circus fame.
Dr. Barnum practiced pediatric dentistry in Portland from 1940 to 1963. In addition to teaching at the dental school, he was director of a nationally recognized dental program in the Portland public schools from 1946 to 1960.
He was chairman of the American Dental Association's Council on Journalism and established standards for state dental journals to follow. He also wrote numerous scientific articles in dentistry.
From 1970 to 1991, he was secretary-treasurer of Xi Psi Phi, bringing the international office to Medford. During his active years he received honorary membership in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
He was president of the Southern Oregon District Dental Society 1969-1970 and served two years as a trustee of the Southern Oregon Historical Society.
A Unitarian and Mason, Dr. Barnum was a member of the Rotary Club in Portland and Medford for 30 years.
On June 20, 1937, in Medford, he married Amy Elliott, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Robert E., Medford; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His older son, William L. Jr., died Sept. 13, 1970, in an airplane crash.

Frieda S. Jantzer
The graveside service for Frieda Sophia Jantzer will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Pastor Rick Booye of Trail Christian Fellowship will officiate.
Mrs. Jantzer, 93, of Central Point, died Friday (April 24, 1998).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Point Grange Scholarship Fund, 436 E. Pine St., Central Point, OR 97502.
She was born Sept. 11, 1904, in Ashland, a daughter of Nels and Hilda Hanson. The Hansons were early settlers of Climax, their home is where the sign is now located.
She attended Southern Oregon Normal School and Oregon State University. She then taught in the one-room school at Climax.
On Sept. 12, 1927, she married Charles Jantzer, who died in 1968.
She was a member of the Central Point Grange, Redman Lodge, Central Point and Medford Senior Centers, Central Point Loaves and Fishes, and a Good Sams Club.
Survivors include a son, Carl N., Shady Cove; seven grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. A son, Robert, died in 1985. Four brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.

George Pearson Jr.
George W. Pearson Jr., 86, of Trail, died Friday (April 24, 1998) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Dec. 7, 1911, in Gastonia, N.C.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina where he was a member of the University Players. He also was associated with the Keene, N.H., Summer Theater, and the Bucks County, Pa., Playhouse Theater.
Mr. Pearson was a purchasing agent for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, Calif., for 18 years before moving to Oregon in 1958.
He was a member of the Rogue Valley County Club and Lakeside Golf Club, Touluca Lake, Calif. He also enjoyed fishing, photography, and gardening.
Survivors include a brother, Roger, Oklahoma City, Okla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A daughter, Joyce Pearson Prock, died in 1989; and a son, Roger Parker Pearson, in 1947. Three brothers also preceded him in death.
