Bert Wallace Riebe
Bert Wallace Riebe, 78, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (May 7, 1998) from leukemia at his home in Salem. A private service will be held in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

He was born March 1, 1920, in Bend, and attended Bend High School.
During World War II, he served in the Army 41st Air Infantry Division. He retired a major in the Army Reserve.
After the war, Mr. Riebe was a district representative for Greyhound Bus Lines.
Moving to Medford, he was an accountant before joining what is now the Oregon Department of Revenue in 1965. He was a field auditor in Medford, district manager in Corvallis, and retired in Portland in 1980.
Mr. Riebe moved from Aloha to Salem in 1992, where he was a member of the American Legion and Retired Officers Association. While in Medford, he was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ashton, Salem; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His wife, Patricia Follon Riebe, died in 1992.

Mae Clasby
Eva Mae Clasby, 77, of Medford, died Monday (May 11, 1998) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Mae Howser on July 26, 1920, in Unionville, Mo.
On Dec. 1, 1945, in Olympia, Wash., she married Fred O. Clasby, who survives.
They moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Glendora, Calif.
Mrs. Clasby enjoyed fishing, bingo, and trips to Reno.
Survivors include a daughter, Janett Clasby, Medford; a stepson, Wayne Nell, Yakima, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Nell, Yakima; a sister, Georgia Toney, Glendora, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A son, Gordon Wayne, died in 1994.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers; and two sisters.

Louie F. Harris
The graveside service for Louie F. Harris will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Harris, 89, formerly of Phoenix, died Saturday (May 9, 1998) in Madera, Calif. His home was in Madera.
He was born Sept. 9, 1908, in Almartha, Mo.
Mr. Harris was a foreman and an aircraft and electrical technician for Nordskorg in Los Angeles, a manufacturer of aircraft kitchens.
He moved to Phoenix 24 years ago, living there until the early 1980s.
Mr. Harris was a member of the Chowchilla, Calif., New Life Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marietta Harris, Madera; a son, Harold B., Frazier Park, Calif.; three daughters, Crysta Lee Minton, Jacksonville, Louella F. Caldwell-Robbins, Arlington, Texas, and Alicia E. Burke, LaVerne, Calif.; a stepson, Samuel Ray Fox, Madera; four stepdaughters, Bessie Friday, Brookings, Tina Ruth Glass, Madera, Mary Dowlene Rogers, Antioch, Calif., and Rosie Mae Wear, Muskogee, Okla.; a brother, Clifford S., Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Beulah Chilcoat-Pogue, Tollison, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Jean Kasner.

Albert A. Scouten
Albert Augustus Scouten, 88, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (May 12, 1998) at his home in Redding, Calif. A private service is planned.
He was born Aug. 23, 1909, in Alhambra, Calif.
Mr. Scouten was a self-employed commercial electrical contractor.
He lived in Grants Pass from 1949 to 1973, then in Medford until 1991.
During World War II, he served in the Navy.
Mr. Scouten was a life member of the Heppner Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Dennis M., Redding; a daughter, Sandra Scouten Ford, Lovell, Wyo.; a brother, John D., Danville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lorin Merle Hixson
The memorial service for Lorin Merle Hixson will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Forest Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Robert Kruger of the Scappoose/St. Helens Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.
Mr. Hixson, 92, formerly of Grants Pass, died Friday (April 24, 1998) at his home in College Place, Wash.

He was born Sept. 18, 1905, in Fortuna, Calif.
Mr. Hixson attended Rohnerville Elementary School in Humboldt, County, Calif., and completed agriculture courses at Fortuna High School in 1924.
On Feb. 14, 1928, he married Ruth Stayton. The family lived on the Hixson farm near Fortuna. They were later divorced.
On Oct. 14, 1941, in Lynwood, Calif., he married Florence T. Cassaca. They moved to Grants Pass in 1950, bought a small farm, where they raised corn and berries and did free-lance cultivating and rototilling. In the 1970s, they moved to Medford where he was active in the Adventist Community Service Center. They then moved to Covelo, Calif. They later divorced.
In 1991, Mr. Hixson moved to Forest Grove and in 1996 to College Place.
He remained an active gardener into his 80s.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Nations, Portland; three sons, Loren M. Hixon Jr. and G. Richard, both Anchorage, Alaska, and Stanlen Weldon, Covelo; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Gordon, died in 1957. Also preceding him death were a sister, Ruth Woodcock; three brothers, Harvey, Mervin and Warren; and two half-brothers, Ray Baldwin and Halbert Baldwin.

F. Darlene `Dean' Eells
The funeral for F. Darlene "Dean" Eells will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass. Members of Followers of Christ Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Granite Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Eells, 57, of Medford, died Sunday (May 10, 1998) at her home.
She was born Darlene Decker on June 25, 1940, in Morehouse, Mo.
On March 1, 1958, in Grants Pass, she married Delbert Keith Eells, who died May 7, 1991. They moved to Medford from Grants Pass about 35 years ago.
She was a member of Followers of Christ Church in Grants Pass and enjoyed plants, listening to music, and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Eells, Medford; two sons, Jerry, Central Point, and Stanton, Meridian, Idaho; two sisters, Verna Busick, Medford, and Dollie Martin, Quilin, Mo.; a brother, Hershel Dale Decker, Grants Pass; and five grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.
Jeffrey Dale Bailey
The memorial service for Jeffrey Dale Bailey will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Harvest Baptist Church, Medford. Pastor Bob Gass will officiate. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Bailey, 44, of Central Point, died Friday (May 8, 1998) at a family retreat.

He was born July 29, 1953, in Medford.
He graduated from Crater High School in 1971 and attended Mount Hood Community College.
Mr. Bailey was a firefighter with Jackson County Fire District 3 and later a dispatcher for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Central Point Police Department and then for the Medford Police Department. He also had worked for the Financial Network Co.
While with the sheriff's department, he competed with officers in the pistol competition and was named Most Inspirational Shooter in 1978. He was a member of the Oregon Peace Officers Association.
Mr. Bailey was an avid NASCAR racing fan, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his parents, Clifford and Vera Jones Bailey, Central Point; three brothers, Robert, Central Point, William, Salem, and David, Minden, Nev.; and two sisters, Donna York, Central Point, and Sally Upatisringa, Eureka, Calif.

Anna Marie Sabina Bali
The memorial service for Anna Marie Sabina Bali will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church, Medford. Pastor Lou Schnider will officiate. Private interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Bali, 101, of Medford, died Saturday (May 9, 1998) at her home.

She was born Anna Marie Sabina Jensen on Dec. 5, 1896, in Kongsted, Sjaelland, Denmark. In April 1900 the family emigrated to Hurley, S.D.
Later she returned to Denmark, where she married Johannes Marinus Bali, who preceded her in death. They moved to Hurley in 1920 and to Medford in 1938.
Mrs. Bali was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for nearly 60 years.
Her cinnamon rolls "were legendary." She also enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and gardening.
Survivors include a son, John M., Moss Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Myrla Bauman, Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Norma Wright, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Ema Holland, Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Harvey Jensen, Ann Arbor; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Nona Myers and Oda Hansen; two sisters, Leila Sutherland and Camilla Larsen; and a grandson.
