Dick Cary
Dick Crowder Cary, 88, of Medford, died Thursday (May 21, 1998) at his home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

He was born June 30, 1909, in Brookfield, Mo.
On Feb. 21, 1949, in Reno, he married Arlene Sawyer, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1966 from Portland.
Mr. Cary retired from Pacific Fruit and Produce in 1971.
He was a member of the Rogue Valley County Club and the Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer.
Two brothers, Tom and Dan, preceded him in death.

Mary E. Thompson
The graveside service for Mary Elizabeth Thompson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, Calif.
Mrs. Thompson, 94, of Ashland, died Wednesday (May 20, 1998) in the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.
She was born Mary Elizabeth Redmayne on June 14, 1903, in Birmingham, Ala. She grew up in Duluth, Minn.
On Aug. 16, 1924, in Duluth, she married Lee Thompson, who preceded her in death.
She moved to Alhambra, Calif., in 1945 and was a PBX operator for the Los Angeles Times. She moved to Ashland in 1989.
She was a member of the Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty McGehee, Ashland, and Marjorie Pauly, Alhambra; two sisters, Ann Gepvert, Torrance, Calif., and Madeline Mahn, San Gabriel, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A sister and four brothers preceded her in death.

Wesley W. Jahn
Wesley Walter Jahn, 64, former superintendent of the Eagle Point School District, died Sunday (May 17, 1998) at Hearthstone. A private service was held. His home was in Medford.
He was born May 8, 1934, in Judd, N.D.
Mr. Jahn was superintendent of the Eagle Point School District from July 20, 1977, to June 30, 1981.
He was a graduate of Valley City State Teachers College in North Dakota and received his master's degree from Oregon College of Education in Monmouth. His superintendent credential was from the University of Oregon.
Mr. Jahn started his teaching career as a teacher and coach in North Dakota, then was superintendent-principal in Union. From 1970 to 1977 he was superintendent of the Mill City School District.
He had served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Jahn was a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed hunting for mushrooms, camping, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Michael, Medford; a brother, Bud, Sacramento, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Esther Lee Varner
The funeral for Esther Lee Varner will be held today in the Newberg Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Phillip Rose will officiate. Interment will follow in the Newberg Friends Cemetery.
Mrs. Varner, 71, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (May 19, 1998) at a Newberg hospital. Her home was in Newberg.
She was born Esther Lee Powers on Jan. 24, 1927, in San Jose, Calif. She attended school in California and Oregon, the family having moved to the Lincoln City area. She graduated from Taft High School.
On Sept. 22, 1946, she married Roy Varner, who died in Medford in May 1972.
They lived in McMinnville and Eastern Oregon on and off for a number of years before moving to Medford in 1960. Mrs. Varner moved in 1975 to Newberg, where she was a member of Newberg Assembly of God Church and was active in women's ministries.
Survivors include three sons, James, Newberg, Robert, Waldport, and William, Dillingham, Alaska; four brothers, Boyd Powers, Prospect, Gary Powers, Newberg, and Verl Powers and Roger Powers, both Enterprise; three sisters, Thelma Hulse and Mille Salyer, both Newberg, and Vera Butcher, McMinnville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary.

Lloyd E. Ballmer
Lloyd E. Ballmer, 87, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (May 19, 1998) at Royale Garden Health and Rehabilitation Center, Grants Pass. No service is planned.

He was born July 13, 1910, in Cozad, Neb.
On Nov. 1, 1979, in Roseburg, he married Mary Campeau, who survives.
Mr. Ballmer was vice president of the Bank of America in El Segundo, Calif. After retiring in 1972, they moved to Azalea, and he later to Grants Pass.
He enjoyed golf and bowling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dana, Irvine, Calif.; and a daughter, Barbara Clarke, El Segundo; a sister, Margaret Malm, Monterey Park, Calif.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

C. Timothy McNamara
The memorial service for C. Timothy McNamara will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the First Christian Church, Medford. Pastor Tim Tiffany will officiate.
Mr. McNamara, 47, of Medford, died Wednesday (May 20, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 2, 1950, in Grants Pass.
On Aug. 2, 1980, in San Jose, Calif., he married Alison K Cooley, who survives.
At the time of his death he was a CNC machinist for Siskiyou Design in Grants Pass.
Mr. McNamara was a member of the Lewiston, Calif., Moose Lodge, and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Erin McNamara, Medford, and Athena Jones in California; his mother, Arlene McNamara, Selma; a brother, Dan, Grants Pass; a sister, Nancy Pope, Ashland; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward McNamara.

Harriet B. Oachs
The memorial service for Harriet B. Oachs will be at 1 p.m. June 5 in Rogue Valley Community Church, Rogue River. Pastor Dick Kelso will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Oachs, 79, of Rogue River, died Saturday (May 16, 1998) at her home.

She was born Harriet Woodhouse on June 30, 1918, in Rochester, Minn.
On June 2, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minn., she married George W. Oachs, who died in 1995.
In 1954, they moved to California, and from there to the Rogue Valley in 1963.
Mrs. Oachs was a nurse at Rogue Valley Medical Center for 12 years.
She was a member of the Rogue Valley Community Church. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald and George, both Gold Hill, and Terry, Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Victoria L. Tocher, Gold Hill; a sister, Dorothy Anderson, Gold Hill; nine grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Anna Lee Pritchard
Mass will be celebrated for Anna Lee Pritchard at 8 a.m. May 29 in Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland.
Mrs. Pritchard, 92, of Ashland, died Friday (May 15, 1998) at the Linda Vista Care Center.
She was born Jan. 22, 1906, in Honey Grove, Texas.
Mrs. Pritchard moved to Ashland in 1988 from Mountain View, Okla.
Survivors include a grandson, Stephen Truelove, Ashland; a granddaughter, Pamela Santana, Cary, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.A. Pritchard.
