Glenice Irene Brinkley
Glenice Irene Brinkley, 63, of Medford, died Sunday (May 24, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.
She was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Prescott, Ariz.
She moved to Medford in 1992 from Cave Junction.
She was a back therapist until retiring five years ago. She enjoyed arts, crafts, and crocheting.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Brinkley, Medford, and Pam Mitchell, Cave Junction; and four grandchildren. A daughter, Stephine Ott, died in 1980.

Frances Alice Shreeve
Frances Alice Shreeve, 88, of Medford, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at her home. A memorial service will be held later.
She was born Frances Dorf on March 20, 1910, in Tacoma, Wash. She attended school in Washington and Oregon.
On July 29, 1934, in Grants Pass, she married Leonard M. Shreeve, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936 from Yreka, Calif.
Mrs. Shreeve worked for the telephone company in Los Angeles, at Strang's Drug Store in Medford, and was an aide for the Carpenter family.
She enjoyed fishing, hunting and dancing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Larry, Medford, Leonard, Eugene, Lloyd, Hermiston, and Lynn, Springfield; two brothers, Paul and Lester Dorf, both Medford; a sister, Amy Sanford, Ferndale, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lewis.

Alice G. Chitwood
The graveside service for Alice Genevieve Chitwood will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. Family members will officiate.
Mrs. Chitwood, 88, of Medford, died Thursday (May 21, 1998) at the Medford Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Alice G. Webster on Oct. 9, 1909, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
On Aug. 12, 1931, in Gardena, Calif., she married Penn Alden Chitwood, who preceded her in death.
She moved to the Rogue Valley 45 years ago from California.
The Chitwoods owned and operated Crater Well Drilling.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile and enjoyed bridge and art.
Survivors include a sister, Grayce Webster, Laguna Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne P., and Charles D.; and two brothers, David and Rainey Webster.

Annie Della Close
The graveside service for Annie Della Close will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. Pastor Don Baker of the Ashland Christian Fellowship will officiate.
Mrs. Close, 86, of Ashland, died Sunday (May 24, 1998) at Ashland Community Hospital.

She was born Annie Peart on Feb. 10, 1912, in Coquille.
On Aug. 19, 1933, in Coquille, she married Charles Close, who died in 1981.
Mrs. Close moved to Ashland in 1959 from Jacksonville.
She was a professional seamstress for 18 years.
Mrs. Close was a member of the Bellview and state granges.
Survivors include two sons, Loren S., Central Point, and Keith, Salem; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Bill Bayer
William "Bill" Bayer, 86, of Williams, died Friday (May 22, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.
He was born Dec. 29, 1911, in Hartford, Conn.
On Sept. 26, 1942, in North Hollywood, Calif., he married Gretchen Rohrbach, who survives.
Mr. Bayer worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank and Palmdale, Calif., retiring in 1972.
They moved to Williams in the early 1970s from Mint Canyon, Calif.
Mr. Bayer enjoyed gardening, rock hounding, and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Jim, Cedar City, Utah, and Richard, Adelanto, Calif.; two brothers, Jack, Phoenix, Ariz., and Bob, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and two grandchildren. A brother, Bud, preceded him in death.

Viola A. Branham
Viola Ann Branham, 59, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) in Grants Pass. No service is planned.
She was born Viola Ann Wilson on April 6, 1938, in The Dalles.
In The Dalles, she married Eugene K. Branham, who died in 1986. She moved to the Rogue Valley 15 years ago.
The Branhams raised and showed race horses.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Grants Pass 4th Ward.
Survivors include a daughter, Tina Hutchison, Grants Pass; two sons, Kenneth, The Dalles, and Merlin, Sheridan; four brothers, Phillip Wilson and James Wilson, both Grants Pass, Duke Wilson, Salem, and Raymond Wilson, Wamic; four sisters, Rena Bacon, Barbara Copley, and Mary Norton, all Grants Pass, and Linda Woolsey, Salem; and five grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
John Allen Bellas
The memorial service for John A. Bellas will be held Thursday in Lafayette, Calif. Inurnment will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, Calif. A local service will be held later.
Mr. Bellas, 43, of Medford, died Friday (May 22, 1998) at his home.

Mr. Bellas was born Jan. 8, 1955, in Oakland, Calif. He moved to Oregon in 1993.
On Nov. 12, 1994, in Lake Tahoe, Calif., he married Betty Jean Lyon, who survives.
A printer, he enjoyed poetry, writing, drawing, and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his mother, Leanore Bellas, Walnut Creek, Calif; a sister, Kathy Lickiss, Walnut Creek; and a brother, Marc, Land O'lakes, Fla.

Barbara E. Peffers
The memorial service for Barbara Eleanor Peffers will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Butte Falls Community Church. Pastor John Adams will officiate. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
Mrs. Peffers, 68, of Eagle Point, died Friday (May 22, 1998) at her home.

She was born Barbara E. McLennan on Nov. 2, 1929, in New Westminster, B.C.
On Sept. 8, 1966, she married Charles L. Peffers, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from Yucaipa, Calif.
Mrs. Peffers enjoyed reading and was a hockey fan.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Norah Gordon, Prospect; two sons, John, Medford, and Lee, Suisun City, Calif.; six brothers, Dennis, Kenneth, Larry, Stewart, Harold, and George McLennan, all Vancouver; two sisters, Wendy Watson, Vancouver, and Anne Trumm in Australia; and seven grandchildren. A son, Kevin, died in 1967.

Frank L. Smith
Frank Lyle Smith, 81, of Medford, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at his home. A private service is planned with inurnment in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
He was born March 6, 1917, in Hymer, Kan. The following year the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he graduated from Handley High School.
On July 17, 1938, in Weatherford, Texas, he married Mary Elizabeth List, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from California.
During World War II, Mr. Smith was an instructor and built aircraft at North American Aviation. He worked for General Motors for 30 years, moving to California in 1949 and retiring in 1975.
The Smiths were volunteers at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's information booth.
He was an avid San Francisco Giants fan and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Sharon Smith, Ashland, and Martha Capovilla, Hood River; a son, Sidney Ward, Bend; and four grandchildren. Two brothers, Sidney and Ralph, preceded him in death.
