Stella Darras
Stella Darras, 97, of Central Point, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) in Central Point. No local service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley, Colo.

She was born Stella Smith on Sept. 5, 1900, in Poland.
In 1917, in Canada, she married Cyriel Darras, who died in 1969.
Mrs. Darras moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988 from Greeley.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greeley. Her enjoyed crocheting and flower gardening.
Survivors include a son, Ben, Medford; a sister, Rosie Stoneage, Fremont, Calif.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A daughter, Mary Darras, died in 1988.

Jack Burns
John "Jack" William Burns, 91, of Medford, died Thursday (May 28, 1998) at his home. No local service is planned.
He was born May 19, 1907, in Boise, Idaho.
Mr. Burns worked for the U.S. Postal Service in the Rogue Valley for many years.
He moved to the Rogue Valley 50 years ago.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Burns was a member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Michael, Portland, and Joseph Edward, Irving, Texas; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret.

Joseph C. Jolley
The cryptside service for Joseph C. Jolley will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. David Keil of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Central Point, will officiate.
Mr. Jolley, 78, of Medford, died Thursday (May 28, 1998) at a local foster care home.
He was born April 12, 1919, in Portland.
On Feb. 9, 1946, in Seattle, he married Anna Whittaker, who survives.
Mr. Jolley was an insurance and chemical salesman before retiring in 1981.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Joseph C., Reno, Nev., and Thomas M. and David R., both Sparks, Nev.; four sisters, Louise Lauer, McMinnville, Josie Pfeifer, Brightwood, Arlene Flores, Portland, and Lorraine Hoorneman, San Leandro, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Dr. Ernest Wisely
The memorial service for Dr. Ernest John Wisely, a dentist, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Church of the Nazarene, Medford. Pastors Kevin Gowland and Lawrence Blight will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Wisely, 65, of Medford, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 17, 1932, in Osceola, Neb. When he was 11 years old the family moved to the Rogue Valley from Wallowa.
On June 14, 1957, in Central Point, he married Anna Joy Clayton, who survives.
Mr. Wisely was a dentist for 30 years, practicing in Central Point and Coos Bay.
He was a member of the Oregon Dental Association, the Christian School Board, Ducks Unlimited, the Safari Club, Oregon Hunters Association, and Ramblin Rogues Square Dance Club.
He also enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, taxidermy and bird watching.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Juanice Marie Trigg, Coquille, and Michele Joy Pfundt, Petersburg, Alaska; a son, Mark James, Springfield; his mother, Elvera Jean Wisely, Central Point; a sister, Marilyn Jean Johnston, Central Point; a brother, Donald Eugene, Coos Bay; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael John.

Norma G. Hoyt
The graveside service for Norma G. Hoyt will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Jacksonville Cemetery. Pastor Ken Schubert will officiate.
Mrs. Hoyt, 72, of Applegate, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) in Applegate.

She was born Norma Gregory on Aug. 16, 1925, in San Bernardino, Calif.
On Jan. 23, 1978, in Mill Valley, Calif., she married Lawrence E. Hoyt, who survives.
They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from the San Francisco Bay area.
Mrs. Hoyt enjoyed oil painting and interior design.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Kevin, Seattle; and a sister, Sandra Sewell, Durant, Okla.

Thomas E. Giannotte
The graveside service for Thomas E. Giannotte will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Embert Smalley will officiate.
Mr. Giannotte, 74, of Central Point, died Sunday (May 24, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Cambridge, Mass.
On July 14, 1963, in Spotswood, N.J., he married Alice M. Keenan, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1983 from San Diego, later settling in Central Point.
During World War II, Mr. Giannotte served in the U.S. Navy in the American Theater. He participated in Operation Highjump in 1946-1947 in the Antarctic with Rear Adm. Richard Byrd on board the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea. On Feb. 16, 1947, Mr. Giannotte, flew with Byrd over the South Pole, Byrd's second such flight.
Mr. Giannotte served for many years in the Naval Reserve, being active in a construction battalion (Seabees).
He was a civil service administrator in San Diego until retiring.
Mr. Giannotte was a member of the Fleet Reserve, the American Legion in Medford, the Grants Pass Elks Lodge, the Central Point Grange, and Roxy Ann Seniors Bowling League.
He enjoyed making stained glass lamps, needlepoint, and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Jean Perry, Williams, and Dale Zelosko, Morganville, N.J.; a son, Al Machuta, Central Point; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; and a brother, John.

Orval Lewman
The funeral for Orval Lewman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass. Pastors Earl Best and Michael Hale of the Provolt Community Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Missouri Flat Cemetery.
Mr. Lewman, 81, of Williams, died Sunday (May 24, 1998) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass.

He was born Dec. 5, 1916, in Provolt, a son of Richard F. and Daisy Badger Lewman.
Mr. Lewman graduated from Williams High School in 1936.
On Dec. 25, 1939, in Williams, he married Ada Yocom, who survives.
Mr. Lewman was a Williams cattle rancher all his life.
He was on the Josephine County Soil and Water Conservation District board for 25 years and on the Josephine County School District board for three years starting in 1947, when it was established.
Mr. Lewman was a 50-year member of the Williams Grange, charter member of the Applegate Lions Club, and a member of the Oregon and Jackson County Cattlemen's associations. He enjoyed hunting and camping.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Richard, Williams; three daughters, Margaret Wall and Paula Lewman, both Williams, and Teresa Thompson, Sequim, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Hazel M. Shaw
Hazel M. Shaw, 81, of Medford, died Tuesday (May 26, 1998) in Medford. No service is planned. Interment will be in the Chapel of Chimes Cemetery in Oakland, Calif.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Hazel M. Murphy on Feb. 22, 1917, in Eureka Springs, Ark.
Mrs. Shaw moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Oakland.
She was a nanny for 9 1/2 years for Dr. Ruth Rabinovich's children, retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Shaw was a member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling and ceramics.
Survivors include three sisters, Lena Quigley, Paradise, Calif., Ethel Ussery, Eureka, Calif., and Mae Gordon, Fort Bragg, Calif.; and a brother, Lee Orval Murphy, Clovis, Calif. Her husband, Albert Shaw died in 1966. Two sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death.
