Harold Peter Lumsden
The memorial service for Harold Peter "Scratch" Lumsden will be at 2 p.m. today in O'Hair's Funeral Chapel, Klamath Falls. The Revs. Howard Ware and Ken Morton will officiate.
Mr. Lumsden, 73, formerly of Medford, died Monday (June 8, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. His home was in Klamath Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
He was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Independence, Iowa.
He was educated in Iowa and Illinois and attended one year of business college at Chillicothe, Mo.
Mr. Lumsden served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In 1944, he married Mary Katherine Smith, whom he met at a street dance at the Klamath Falls Air Base. Mrs. Smith died in 1991.
Mr. Lumsden worked at Klamath Brick and Tile in 1945. The family moved to San Diego, where he worked in civil service and for Douglas Aircraft. Later he moved to Medford, where he was a bid coordinator for Batzer Construction.
In 1977, he returned to Klamath Falls, working again for Klamath Brick and Tile and later for QMI Lumber. He handled bids for projects including the Klamath County Courthouse Annex, Rogue Valley Mall, KOIN Center Fountain in Portland and the University of Oregon.
Mr. Lumsden was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading about history, cooking and baking, country breakfasts, and Thanksgiving dinner.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Burns, Tacoma, Wash.; two brothers, Joe and Howard, both Independence; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and his companion, Helen Forner, Klamath Falls. A daughter, Suzette Lumsden, preceded him in death.

Cecil Robert Hall
The memorial service for Cecil Robert Hall will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brookings Masonic Temple. The family will scatter the ashes at sea from the fishing boat Panda.
Mr. Hall, 78, formerly of Medford, died Friday (June 5, 1998) in Medford. His home was in Brookings.

He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Powers, the ninth of 11 children. His parents homesteaded at Mule Creek in Curry County.
On July 3, 1940, in Waldport, he married Betty Agnes Keady, who survives. They lived in Medford on and off from the 1940s to 1960, when they moved to Brookings.
Mr. Hall was a commercial fisherman most of his life.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, Elks Lodge, Roxy Ann Grange in Medford and Chetco Grange.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Nixon Cecil, Orick, Calif., and Alan Hall Keady, Point Reyes Station, Calif.; two daughters, Susan M. Ross, Mehama, and Katherine D. Lindley, Brookings; three brothers, Claud and Clifford, Newport, and Lester, Yachats; two sisters, Patricia Van Orden, Newport, and June Mann, Bremerton, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Wilma Nell McFarlan
Wilma Nell McFarlan, 78, formerly of Ashland, died May 31, 1998, at her home in Pendleton. A memorial service was held June 6 in the Calvary Baptist Church in Pendleton. Inurnment was in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

She was born Wilma Whiton on Aug. 25, 1919, in Fresno, Calif., where she grew up.
Mrs. McFarlan lived in Klamath Falls for 16 years, in Ashland for several years and then in Brookings for 24 years. She moved to Pendleton eight years ago.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Pentkowski, Ashland, and Nell Haddock, Pendleton; a son, Charles Rae, Klamath Falls; a brother, John E. Whiton, Pendleton; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles D. McFarlan, preceded her in death.

Florence I. Carlton
Florence I. Carlton, 95, of Phoenix, died Monday (June 8, 1998) at the Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. A private service is planned. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Medford.
She was born Florence Marsh on Nov. 8, 1902, in Russell, Kan.
In 1928, she married James Hoell. They were later divorced.
In 1944, in Yuma, Ariz., she married Edward Carlton, who died in 1962.
Mrs. Carlton was a secretary and bookkeeper for many years in Kansas and Southern California.
In 1956, she moved with her husband to Ashland where they owned and operated the Carlton Motel.
Mrs. Carlton also worked for Provost Furniture from 1964 to 1972.
She was a member of the Ashland First Presbyterian Church and the Upper Valley Community Club and enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Anderson, Central Point; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Carl W. Unruh
The graveside service for Carl W. Unruh will be held today in the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. Leroy Sammer will officiate.
Mr. Unruh, 82, formerly of Medford, died Monday (June 8, 1998) at the hospital in Silverton. His home was in Silverton.

He was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Newton, Kan.
Mr. Unruh moved to California in the 1930s to learn the painting trade. He became a master craftsman, working for many stars of the day. During that time he studied voice for seven years and was accepted by the San Francisco Opera to sing in their company, but family responsibilities precluded a music career.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific aboard the second aircraft carrier USS Wasp.
On Sept. 18, 1947, he married Ruth Sleight, who died in 1997. They moved to Medford in 1961, where he was a commercial painter. Later the Unruhs frequently moved up and down the Willamette Valley.
As a young man, he was a youth pastor for the Inglewood, Calif., Presbyterian Church. Mr. Unruh enjoyed art and wrote an unpublished novel and musical. He also was known for his sense of humor and wit.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurel Sammer and Lyn Sims, both Portland; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. Five siblings preceded him in death.

Lloyd R. Johnson
The graveside service for Lloyd Raymond Johnson will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor John Scholz of St. Peter's Lutheran Church will officiate.
Mr. Johnson, 67, of Medford, died Sunday (June 7, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born May 18, 1931, in Wenatchee, Wash.
On June 8, 1953, in Oakridge, he married Stella C. Baszler, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Springfield.
Mr. Johnson was a medic in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1953 and served in the Korean War.
He was a heavy equipment driver in road construction.
Mr. Johnson enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Bonnie Hare and Laura Compton, both Medford; two sons, Fred and Jamie, both Medford; a brother, Bob, Klamath Falls; four sisters, Rosie Jones, Bend, Marion Chambers, Madras, Julie Hornberger, Klamath
Falls, and Louise Scates, Arcata, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. A brother, John, preceded him in death.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
Geneva P. McKenzie
Geneva "Dude" Pence McKenzie, 81, of Central Point, died May 20, 1998, in a Medford foster home. No service is planned. Interment was in Trail Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Buncom.
Mrs. McKenzie lived most of her life in the Rogue Valley.
She was an animal lover and an avid gardener.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Jardine, Mesa, Ariz., and Geraldine Cushman, Lancaster, Calif.; a son, Vernon D., Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Mary Kilburn, Central Point, and Gertrude Herrmann, Eagle Point; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gola V. McKenzie; and five brothers.
Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.
Cherry Ann Eddy
The memorial service for Cherry Ann Eddy will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the West Main Church of Christ, Medford. Lance Lake will officiate.
Mrs. Eddy, 71, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday (June 2, 1998) at her home.
She was born Cherry Ann Pelot on June 22, 1926, in Los Angeles.
On June 24, 1945, she married Frank Eldon Eddy, who died in October 1987.
Mrs. Eddy was a longtime resident of Gold Hill.
She enjoyed crafts and was active in league bowling for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Mike, Central Point, and Mark, Whittier, Calif.; a daughter, Patty Costa, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; a brother, Jim Pelot, Santa Maria, Calif.; a sister, Betty Kime, McKinleyville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Robertson; and two brothers, Pat and Ed Pelot.
