Mel E. Jannusch

The memorial service for Milburn "Mel" E. Jannusch will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Ashland Christian Fellowship. Pastor Andy Green will officiate. Private interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Jannusch, 79, of Medford, died Saturday (June 13, 1998) at an adult foster care home in Central Point.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ashland Christian Fellowship, Overseas Missions Memorial Fund, 50 E. Hersey St., Ashland, OR 97520.

Mr. Jannusch was born May 14, 1919, in Oakland, Calif.

On July 27, 1946, in San Leandro, Calif., he married Connie Mantzurani, who survives. They moved to Oregon in 1961.

Mr. Jannusch, a retired furniture salesman, worked for Weeks and Orr for 20 years.

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.

Mr. Jannusch, a former member of the Medford Elks Lodge, enjoyed dancing, sports and travel.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Connie Lee Skillman, Ashland; two sons, Steven, Ashland, and George, Bothell, Wash.; a brother, Walter, Lafayette, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A sister, Ruth Gegan; and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral.

Marjorie Lee Monahan

The graveside service for Marjorie Lee Monahan will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Monahan, 72, of Medford, died Sunday (June 14, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Marjorie Lee Anderson on April 15, 1926, in San Diego, Calif., and moved to the Rogue Valley from California 37 years ago.

On Dec. 29, 1989 in Carson City, Nev., she married William J. Monahan, who survives.

Mrs. Monahan was a claims taker for the Oregon State Employment Service for eight years.

She enjoyed bridge, gardening, boating and waterskiing.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Patricia A. Bachelet, Ashland, Barbara L. Brown, Littleton, Colo., and Janice J. Hansen, Pleasanton, Calif.; a brother, Robert Anderson, Santee, Calif.; a sister, Betty J. Scott, Pine Valley, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Doris E. Gunn-Tiner

The graveside service for Doris Eleanor Gunn-Tiner will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gunn-Tiner, 86, of Medford, died Monday (June 15, 1998) at Hearthstone.

She was born June 15, 1912, in Cozad, Neb., and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Hedges, Pleasant Hill, and Delia Dewees, Stratford, Texas; three sons, George Gunn, Medford, Jeremy Gunn, Eugene, and James Gunn, Bremerton, Wash.; 22 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, George Gunn and Donald Tiner; a son, Morris Gunn, and a stepson, Bernard Gunn.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services.

Merle LeRoy Houston

The funeral for Merle LeRoy Houston will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Conger-Morris Medford Chapel. Interment will follow in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Houston, 70, of Medford, died Saturday (June 13, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Trail, a son of Merle V. and Nola Houston.

On Nov. 12, 1955, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he married Rosalie Anduha, who survives. In 1965 they moved to the Rogue Valley from Key West, Fla.

Mr. Houston, who served in the U.S. Navy's Submarine Service, retired as an engineman first class (refrigeration and air conditioning). His service spanned the Korean War.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, William, Beaverton; a brother, Rodger, Days Creek; and two grandchildren.

George C. Fraley

The memorial service for George C. Fraley will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Rogue Valley Christian Church. The Rev. James Larson will officiate.

Mr. Fraley, 68, of Medford, died Saturday (June 13, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born July 31, 1929, in Indiana and grew up in Jacksboro, Tenn.

On July 21, 1951, in Indiana, he married Elizabeth McConnell, who survives.

Mr. Fraley was an ironworker in Los Angeles and San Francisco prior to retiring in 1974. He moved to Medford in 1977.

He enjoyed yard work.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, George Steven, Orange Park, Fla.; two brothers, Willard and Alfred, both in Indiana; and a sister, Geraldine Crowe in Ohio. Two sisters preceded him in death.

Melvin Joe Queen

The memorial service for Melvin Joe Queen will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Ruhl Park, corner of Hillcrest Road and Modoc Avenue, Medford. The Rev. Mark Anderson will officiate.

Mr. Queen, 68, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (June 2, 1998) at the home of his mother, Mary Queen, in Visalia, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Baseball, P.O. Box 1254, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Big Springs, Texas, and the family moved to California in 1932.

Mr. Queen lived in and around Medford for more than 40 years.

On Aug. 5, 1964, in Coos Bay, he married Leah Reavis Health, who survives.

He was in general construction, oil field construction, commercial fishing, and bartending before retiring. As a young adult he was an avid softball player and continued his interest in the sport. He also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include two sons, Joseph, Medford, and Christopher, Watertown, Conn.; a daughter, Cindy Queen, Portland; a brother, Paul, Visalia; and three grandchildren. His father, Lionel, and a brother preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Miller's Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

Mabel A. Reiss

The memorial service for Mabel A. Reiss will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 614 S. F St., Lakeview. The Rev. Robert Adams will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Mrs. Reiss, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (June 13, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's or to the Lakeview Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 303, Lakeview, Oregon 97630.

She was born Mabel Alma Craig on Nov. 14, 1913, in Skeedee, Okla., the youngest daughter of Rachel Waters Craig and Roy Craig.

On May 3, 1931, in Walters, Okla., she married Clarence G. "Gus" Reiss, who died in Medford in October 1997.

Mrs. Reiss and her family moved from Virginia to Oregon in 1949, following Mr. Reiss's retirement from 21 years in the U.S. Army. After living briefly near Springfield, they moved to Lakeview in 1950 and made their home there until 1997, when they moved to Medford.

In Lakeview, Mrs. Reiss worked briefly in retail sales, and in food service for the Lake County school district. She and her husband opened the first coin-operated laundromat in Lakeview, in the 1950s and, later, she assisted him in the operation of his locksmithing business there. She was a homemaker.

Her interests included church work, bingo, fishing, sewing and baking. Some of her pastry and candy recipes were included in "The Lazy Days of Summer Cookbook," by Jane Watson Hopping, published by the Villard division of Random House, New York, in 1992.

She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Lakeview, the Lake County Senior Citizens Center, the Lakeview Tuesday Club and the Lake County Historical Society.

She was a past president of the Lakeview chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Alvin

Reiss of Jacksonville; two granddaughters, five great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her three sisters and two brothers.

Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford, are in charge of arrangements.

Larry E. Prince

The memorial service for Larry E. Prince will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Grace Bible Church, Grants Pass. Pastor Freeman Allen will officiate.

Mr. Prince, 61, of Central Point, died Tuesday (June 9, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Nov. 5, 1936, in St. George, Utah. The family moved to Oregon in 1947.

On Aug. 11, 1956, in Grants Pass, he married Dorothy Carolyn Lowden, who survives.

Mr. Prince worked for the San Diego Gas and Electric Co. before joining Pacific Power in Grants Pass as journeyman lineman in 1964. He was a line foreman and later a serviceman until becoming Pacific Power's district lineman for Central Point, Gold Hill and

Sams Valley in 1991. He retired in March 1997.

He served in the U.S. Army and the Oregon National Guard.

Mr. Prince was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Austin, Grants Pass; a daughter, Adrienne Preston, Grants Pass; his parents, Eugene and Elsa Prince, Oakridge; and four sisters.
