Helen Ione vonStein
The memorial service for Helen Ione vonStein will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the First Church of the Nazarene chapel. Pastor Kevin Gowland will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. vonStein, 88, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (June 9, 1998) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brookings. She had been living with a son, Robert, in Smith River, Calif.

She was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Cutler, Wis., a daughter of Chris and Edna Scheel. The family moved to Medford in 1927.
On June 5, 1938, she married Neville vonStein, who died March 9, 1994. They lived throughout the U.S. and in Japan during his years in the Army. He retired a senior master sergeant in 1962.
Returning to Medford, he was lookout on Dutchman's Peak with the U.S. Forest Service. She joined him there several summers.
Long active in the First Church of the Nazarene, she was an active member of the Stark Chapter Missionary Group and sang with choral groups, including the church choir.
Survivors, in addition to her son, include a brother, Loren Scheel, Phoenix; and two sisters, Flora Hegarty, Ashland, and Janet Hall, Meridian, Idaho. A brother, Maurice Scheel; and three sisters, Ethel Kornstad, Mabel Johnson, and Anna Stark, preceded her in death.

Morris V. Jones
The memorial service for Morris Val Jones will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Medford Congregational Church. The Rev. Paul Robinson will officiate.
Mr. Jones, 84, of Ashland, died Wednesday (July 1, 1998) at his home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Washington, D.C. He grew up in Hiawatha, Kan.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Dec. 3, 1948, in Corona del Mar, Calif., he married Patricia Firminger, who survives.
Mr. Jones, a speech pathologist, had his private practice in San Francisco for several years before assuming the position of professor at Sacramento State University, where he taught for 23 years. He wrote several books on speech development.
He moved to Ashland in 1989 after retiring. Mr. Jones formed a men's book study group and was involved in Southern Oregon Learning in Retirement (SOLIR), local theater productions and the Toastmasters Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Stanley Jones, Washogal, Wash., and Craig Jones, Wellesley, Wash.; one daughter, Laurie Jones, Sacramento; and three granddaughters.

Dennis M. Wellman
Dennis M. Wellman, 87, of Ruch, died Thursday (July 2, 1998) at Hearthstone. A memorial service, to be announced, will be at Calvary Assembly of God, Jacksonville. Pastor Terry Luttrell will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Wellman was born Aug. 30, 1910, in May, Okla.
On July 22, 1961, in Marysville, Calif., he married Mattie E. Tessman, who survives.
A carpenter, Mr. Wellman was a veteran of World War II. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), and was an active member of Calvary Church before his health failed.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, James Hicks, Ruch, and Frank Plant, Cordova, Alaska; four daughters, Jo Fuller, Ashland; Francis Campbell, Citrus Heights, Calif., Eltonia Rodriquez, Boise, Idaho, and Jeannie Crould, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lucille J. McKeen
The graveside service for Lucille Josephine McKeen will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland. Pastor Ron Timen of Ashland Christian Center will officiate.
Mrs. McKeen, 80, formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday (July 1, 1998) in DeQueen, Ark., where she had been making her home.
She was born April 30, 1918, in Marshfield, now Coos Bay, a daughter of Ben and Mary Pederson. The family moved to Ashland when she was a child.
On May 10, 1942, at Astoria, she married former Ashland Mayor Charlie McKeen, who preceded her in death.
A beautician, Mrs. McKeen started her own business in the Ashland Motel. After 30 years, she taught at the Medford Beauty School until retiring. Then she spent her summers at Hyatt Lake.
Mrs. McKeen enjoyed picking mushrooms, hunting, fishing, and ceramics. She moved to DeQueen in 1987 to be near family.
Survivors include a brother, Robert L. Pederson, Ashland; a sister, Dorothy Hedin, Kalispell, Mont.; and two granddaughters. A son, Bud, preceded her in death.

Mildred M. Tycer
The memorial service for Mildred M. Tycer will be at 1 p.m. today in the Laurel Chapel at Laurel Cemetery, Cave Junction. Pastor Charles Bridges will officiate. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Tycer, 82, formerly of Cave Junction, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford.

She was born May 26, 1916, in Holland, Josephine County, a daughter of Illinois Valley pioneers Richard G. and Ethel Holland Sowell. James E. Holland came to the area in the late 1800s.
Mrs. Tycer was known for her beautiful flowers.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorna Jeanne Warren, Central Point, and Kathy Tycer, Medford; two sons, Jack Ronald, Medford, and Gary D., Portland; and four grandchildren. Her husband, Ronald G. Tycer died in 1987. Four brothers, Edward Dean Sowell, Lindon Dale Sowell, Alton Earl Sowell and Jack Richard Sowell; and a sister, June Lorraine, also preceded her in death.

Charlie Earl Hayes
The funeral for Charlie Earl Hayes will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Hillcrest Chapel, Medford. Ed Graham of Rogue River will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Hayes, 70, formerly of Butte Falls and Eagle Point, died Sunday (June 28, 1998) at the Sunnyside Care Center in Salem.
He was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Washington County, Ark.
Mr. Hayes lived most of his life in the Rogue Valley.
In 1951, in Southern California, he married Ina V. Whitaker, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Hayes worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 20 years. For five years, he owned and operated the Eagle Point Chevron station for five years.
Survivors include four sons, Dwayne, Medford, Thomas E., Butte Falls, Charles E., Salem, and Wayne R., Keizer; three brothers; a sister; and numerous grandchildren.

Fred R. Jennings
The memorial service for Fred Raymond Jennings will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Siskiyou Chapel, Medford. Danny D. Clark will officiate.
Mr. Jennings, 51, of Medford, died Sunday (June 19, 1998) at Lost Creek Lake.

He was born Oct. 4, 1946, in Medford, a son of Sam and Velma Jennings.
Mr. Jennings was a 1964 graduate of Medford Senior High School. He attended Shasta Junior College, Redding, Calif., and Southern Oregon State College.
In 1971 he married Judy A. Walton, They were divorced in 1994.
For the past 24 years, he worked at 3M, now Imation in White City.
Mr. Jennings was a corporate officer of the Sam Jennings Co., an automotive parts company established by his father in 1923.
He enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, fishing and photography.
Survivors include two sons, Shannon Michael and Benjamin Thomas, both Medford; a daughter, RayAnn Eliza Jennings, Medford; two sisters, Lorita J. Wisdom, Medford, and V. Elaine Reisinger, Applegate; and a brother, Sam W., Sacramento, Calif. A son, Sam Thomas, preceded him in death.

Madonna B. Maude
The memorial service for Madonna B. Maude will be at 11 a.m. today in Grace Baptist Church, Rogue River. Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
Mrs. Maude, 87, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (June 27, 1998) at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
She was born Madonna Bradbury on Dec. 1, 1910, in Springfield, Ill.
In 1946, at White Salmon, Wash., she married Richard Maude, who died in 1965.
Mrs. Maude was a registered nurse in Portland for many years, retiring in 1980.
She moved to Rogue River 10 years ago from Cave Junction.
Mrs. Maude was a member of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking and reading.
Survivors include a sister, Roberta Reynolds, Rogue River; and three brothers, William Bradbury, Gold Hill, Richard Bradbury, Toledo, Wash., and Carlyle Bradbury, Whidbey Island, Wash.
