Manuel Quinonez

The funeral for Manuel Quinonez will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford. The Rev. Carmelo Misfud of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. A cryptside service will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Quinonez, 76, of Medford, died Thursday (July 9, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born June 22, 1921, in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.

On Aug. 30, 1946, in Tiquisate, Guatemala, he married Zoila Solares, who preceded him in death.

Before coming to the United States, Mr. Quinonez was a semi-pro soccer player in Tiquisate, Guatemala, and worked for United Fruit.

He worked in janitorial maintenance for six years at the University of Southern California and was a maintenance person at Highland-Tryvenol Pharmaceuticals for nine years. Upon his retirement in 1986, he moved to the Rogue Valley from Los Angeles.

He was a member of the Medford Moose Lodge and the Widow and Widower Group, and enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching sports on TV.

Survivors include three sons, Ceasar, Medford, Manual, Northridge, Calif., and Josef Solares, Woodland Hills, Calif.; twin daughters, Annabella Sanchez, Reseda, Calif., and Marie Casal, Northridge, Calif.; two brothers, Frank Quinn, Los Angeles, and Roberto, in Guatemala; two sisters, Eluvia Melgar and Carmen Quinonez, both Guatemala City, Guatemala; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hortencia Quinonez; and a brother, Arturo.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 5 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Medford Chapel.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary.

Esther R. Coldwater

The graveside service for Esther Dorothy Coldwater will be at 3 p.m. today in the Mount Moriah Cemetery, Butte, Mont.

Mrs. Coldwater, 75, of Medford, died Thursday (July 9, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Emek Shalom Future Fund, 1081 E. Main St., Ashland, OR 97520 or Southern Poverty Law Center, P.O. Box 548, Montgomery, AL 36101-0548.

She was born Esther Rosenberg on Aug. 18, 1922, in Butte.

Mrs. Coldwater attended schools in Butte and New York, graduating from Butte High School in 1940. She attended the University of Montana and University of Minnesota and received a degree in medical technology from New York University.

Mrs. Coldwater earned certification as a registered nurse at Sisters of Charity School of Nursing in Montana.

On July 1, 1948, she married Elliot Coldwater, a U.S. Air Force captain. During his military career they lived in French Morocco and Paris, as well as at several U.S. Air Force bases including in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Coldwater, an active volunteer nurse at Air Force hospitals, enjoyed Officers' Wives Club activities.

After her husband, a lieutenant colonel, retired in 1969, the couple returned to Butte and Anaconda, Mont., and were avid bridge players.

Mrs. Coldwater had accumulated an extensive art collection. She also enjoyed birds and flower gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Jolee Nelson, Medford; a brother, Maurice Rosenberg, Anaconda; a sister, Hilda Pollitz, Culver City, Calif.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ralph; and a brother, Jack Rosenberg.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Wilson `Bill' Pearson

The funeral for Wilson "Bill" W. Pearson will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford. Pastor John Braund of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

Mr. Pearson, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 7, 1998) at his home.

He was born June 8, 1915, in Swink, Colo.

On April 9, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash., he married Edith E. Duvall, who survives.

Mr. Pearson served in the U.S. Merchant Marine in the Mediterranean from 1940 to 1943, receiving a Presidential Citation for bravery. From 1945 to '46 he served in the U.S. Army in Tthe Philippines.

Mr. Pearson owned and operated Weathermaker Equipment from 1966 until selling it in 1979.

He was a charter member of the Home Builders Association, Medford Chapter.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Eileen Day, Medford; a son, William, Port Orchard, Wash.; a sister, Cecil Johnson, Selma; two grandchildren; and a step-grandson.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today in the Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford.

Hazel Watson Bivins

The memorial service for Hazel Watson Bivins will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Northridge Center. Private interment will be in the Jacksonville Cemetery.

Mrs. Bivins, 97, of Medford, died Wednesday (July 8, 1998) at Northridge Center in Phoenix, where she lived since 1996.

She was born Hazel Boone on Sept. 8, 1900, in Sumner, Coos County, a fifth generation descendant of Daniel Boone. Her grandfather, George Luther Boone, was a member of the Jesse Applegate party to Oregon in 1846.

In 1916, in Jacksonville, she married Daniel D. Watson, who preceded her in death. They homesteaded on Songer Hill near the present site of Emigrant Lake.

Survivors include two daughters, Ella Jo Watson Spayde, Jacksonville, and Linda Watson Lamkins, Talent; two sisters, Leelah Boone Abbott, Jacksonville, and Edith Boone Johnson, in Colorado; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three other husbands, Graham McAllister, Owen Pratt and Tom Bivins; a son; and two daughters.

Othniel Elton Hayes

The funeral for Othniel Elton Hayes will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou Chapel, Medford. The Rev. John Manitis of Trail Community Church will officiate.

Mr. Hayes, 94, of Trail, died Tuesday (July 7, 1998) at his home.

He was born Jan. 5, 1904, in Lawen in Harney County.

On July 18, 1981, in Shady Cove, he married Mary Alice Pearson, who survives.

Mr. Hayes was a custodian for School District 9. He lived in the Rogue Valley for 53 years where he owned and operated a ranch.

Mr. Hayes, a member of the Eagle Point Grange, also enjoyed drawing and poetry.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Izora Osborne, Trail, and Marjorie Gunkel, Crane; three stepdaughters, Glendene Smith, Apache Junction, Ariz., Carol Larson, St. George, Utah, and Velma Motes, Thatcher, Ariz.; two stepsons, Rex Bosch, Heinz, and Don Wisdom, Gilbert, Ariz.; two foster daughters, Kathleen Mallory, Camarillo, Calif., and Myrla Baumann, in California; 36 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and two half-brothers.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Siskiyou Chapel, Medford.

Max Edward Sparks

Max Edward Sparks, 78, of Medford, died Sunday (July 5, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held later in Illinois. No local service is planned.

He was born Nov. 12, 1919, in Tuscola, Ill.

On June 4, 1942, in Tuscola, he married Ruth A. Hall, who survives.

During World War II, Mr. Sparks served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, spending 25 months in the European Theater.

He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois, earning a master of science degree in agronomy.

Although he was a teacher, Mr. Sparks spent most of his career in the agriculture chemical division of American Metals Climax Corp. in New York. Before his retirement, he was production controller for 10 years at Medite Corp. in Medford.

Harold S. Kezer

The memorial service for Harold S. Kezer will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Reese Creek Christian Center. Pastor Tom Reimer will officiate.

Mr. Kezer, 92, of Central Point, died Saturday (July 4, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.

He was born Dec. 25, 1905, in St. Joseph, Mo.

On Aug. 21, 1926, in St. Joseph, he married Hattie Laurel Samuels, who died in 1996.

Mr. Kezer was a self-employed carpenter and rancher.

He was a member of the Reese Creek Christian Center for more than 35 years. He enjoyed music and played numerous instruments.

Survivors include five sons, Billy, Medford, Harold, Grants Pass, John, Central Point, Robert, Red Bluff, Calif., and Donald, Greenville, Calif.; three daughters, Betty Campbell, Medford, and Marian Groth and Shirley Hall, both Central Point; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Tommy Dee Ainsworth

The memorial service for Tommy Dee Ainsworth will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Christ Unity Church, Medford. The Rev. Colleen Graham will officiate.

Mr. Ainsworth, 42, of Grants Pass, died Monday (July 6, 1998) at his home.

He was born July 6, 1956, in Grants Pass.

Mr. Ainsworth graduated from the Oregon Institute of Technology.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

A computer operator, Mr. Ainsworth was a 3-dimensional designer for Boeing.

Mr. Ainsworth lived in Phoenix for several years in the 1990s.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles.

Survivors include two daughters, Serenity and Charity, both Graham, Wash.; his parents, Ralph and Elaine Ainsworth, Medford; a sister, Julie Figueira, Central Point; and a brother, Richard, Salem.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
