Bud McConnell
The memorial service for Wallace "Bud" Roger McConnell will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Irene Dunn of Providence Medford Medical Center will officiate.
Mr. McConnell, 74, of White City, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at his home.

He was born July 28, 1923, in Portland.
Mr. McConnell moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971 from Gilroy, Calif.
On Oct. 20, 1977, in Carson City, Nev., he married Patricia Kettler, who survives.
Mr. McConnell was a security guard for Boise Cascade Timber and Wood Products prior to retiring.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Wallace R. Jr., Grants Pass; a daughter, Vicky Craige, Grants Pass; three stepsons, Don Danville, Winston, John Danville, Roseburg, and Monte Danville, in California; a stepdaughter, Michelle Stoneking, Carson City; two brothers, Claude, Grants Pass, and Harry, Aloha; two sisters, Sandra Germeroth, Rogue River, and Bernice Stout, Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a grandson.

Wayne Nolan Wilson
The memorial service for Wayne Nolan Wilson, formerly of Trail, will be held Saturday at the home of his daughter, Charlotte Grieve, 24990 Highway 62, Trail.
Mr. Wilson, 73, of Happy Camp, Calif., died Saturday (July 11, 1998) at the Fairchild Medical Center.

He was born July 24, 1924, in Roseburg.
Mr. Wilson moved to Siskiyou County, Calif., 38 years ago from Trail.
He worked in the logging industry for 50 years. In Happy Camp, he was a loader operator for E & A Logging.
Mr. Wilson enjoyed traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include his companion of 53 years, Violet Reeder; two sons, Kenneth, Medford, and DeWayne, Olympia, Wash.; a brother, Vance, Prospect; three sisters, Dellas Davis, White City, Juanita Downing, Prospect, and Velma Jefferson, Yreka; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald; and a grandson.

Betty June Gartin
Betty June Gartin, 55, of Central Point, died Saturday (July 11, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service was held.
She was born Betty Weide on Jan. 24, 1943, in Grants Pass.
Mrs. Gartin owned and operated Betty's Cleaning Service.
She enjoyed gardening, hiking and Indian bead making.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Williams and Theresa Spradling, both Central Point; a son, Todd Peyton, Lakewood, Calif.; her mother, Nellie Henney, Central Point; a brother, Bil Weide, Medford; a sister, Judy Shoemaker, Brookings; and nine grandchilddren.
Her husband, Harold Gartin, died in 1983. Her father, Henry Weide, and a brother, Louis Weide, also preceded her in death.

George LeRoy DeLand
The funeral for George LeRoy DeLand will be at 2 p.m. today in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 747 N.E. Savage St., Rogue River. Bishop John Vial and President Dan Ford will officiate. Interment will be in Redwood Memorial Cemetery, West Jordan, Utah.
Mr. DeLand, 94, of Rogue River, died Friday (July 10, 1998) at his home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1904, in Hunter, Utah.
Mr. DeLand married Dora Simpson of Salt Lake City, who died soon after the birth of their second son.
On July 28, 1928, in Long Beach, Calif., he married Lillian Griffith, who survives.
Mr. DeLand worked in the aircraft industry in Southern California for more than 30 years and helped develop the P-51 Mustang fighter and the B-25 Billy Mitchell bomber.
He was a member of the LDS Church, Rogue River Branch.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Ronald, Yorba Linda, Calif., and Richard, West Jordan; a daughter, DeOnne Grimmer, Salem; a brother, Royal, Rogue River; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gail; and a daughter, Arlene Vial.
Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 1:45 p.m. today in the Relief Society Room at the LDS Church, Rogue River Branch.

Ernest Lavan Cauthon
The cryptside service for Ernest Lavan Cauthon will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. David Jenkins will officiate.
Mr. Cauthon, 82, of Medford, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at his home.
He was born Dec. 16, 1915, in Vinita, Okla.
On Sept. 21, 1942, in Columbus, Kan., he married Erma Lu Loy, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 50 years ago.
Mr. Cauthon retired from Crater Lake Ford after 30 years of service.
During World War II, he served in the 179th Army infantry. He received the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in the Italian Theater.
Mr. Cauthon enjoyed bowling, fishing, photography and cross-stitch.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Ruth Tuttle, Jacksonville, and Linda Bottorff, Cottage Grove; two sisters, Juanita Collins, Lander, Wyo., and Corine Johnson, Jones, Okla.; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis and J.G.; and a sister, Pauline Manley.

Mary Patterson
The memorial service for Mary Patterson will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church, Medford. Pastor Lou Schneider will officiate. Private entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Patterson, 78, of Medford, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at her home.

She was born Mary Berglund on Nov. 27, 1920, in Espanola, Wash.
On April 2, 1938, in Espanola, she married Louis "Pat" Patterson, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1955 from Washington.
Mrs. Patterson was an administrative assistant and receptionist for the State of Oregon Department of Health and Human Resources in Medford prior to retiring.
During World War II, she was a timekeeper at a shipyard in Tacoma, Wash.
Mrs. Patterson, a member of Zion Lutheran Church, sang in its choir and was a handbell ringer. She also enjoyed writing poetry and reading.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a niece, Edwina Driver, Central Point; and a nephew, Raymond Dey, Ruch. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Friends may pay their respects from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
Melvin C. Peterson
The memorial service for Melvin Carl Peterson will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Billings, Mont. The Rev. Richard Keintz, retired, will officiate.
Mr. Peterson, 84, of Medford, died Wednesday (July 8, 1998) at his home.

He was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Elgin, Neb.
On May 3, 1939, in Hardin, Mont., he married Freada Hankel, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley one year ago from Billings.
Mr. Peterson was a gas truck driver for Continental Bulk Plant in Billings until retiring in 1979.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and vegetable gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Evelyn Gorman, Whitefish, Mont.; two brothers, Frank, Billings, and Ernest, Miles City, Mont.; two sisters, Ida Brush and May Zeeb, both Billings; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Beverly Buck, in 1998; three brothers, Clarence in 1984, Myron in 1985 and Leland in 1989; and two sisters, Elda Bennett in 1990 and Cynthia Coombs in 1995.

Jerry Masi
The memorial service for Gerald F. "Jerry" Masi will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, 111 Clay St., Ashland.
Mr. Masi, 45, of Ashland, died Wednesday (June 17, 1998) of a heart attack while on a business trip in Santa Barbara, Calif.
He was born Aug. 8, 1952, in New Britain, Conn.
Mr. Masi moved to Santa Barbara after graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1976.
For many years he worked in real estate and property management, forming the Cal-West Group. In 1994, he moved to Ashland where he founded Jerry Masi Computer Repair & Training.
Mr. Masi was a member of the Bellview Grange, attended the Ashland Second Ward LDS Church, and enjoyed volunteer work, including sponsorship of more than 20 children through the Compassion organization.
Survivors include his companion, Carol Ann Clark, Ashland; his parents, Ronald Masi and Marion Masi; seven sisters, Karen Masi, Rosanne Schroeder, Marie Milliner, Lorraine Masi, Christine Delgado, Shirley D'Angelico, and Regina Needham; and a brother, Ronald Jr.
