Floriene Higinbotham
The funeral for Floriene Elaine Higinbotham will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Perl Funeral Service, Siskiyou Chapel. Pastor Paul Sanders of Bethel Assembly of God will officiate.
Mrs. Higinbotham, 76, of Central Point, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Floriene Smith on July 21, 1921, in Boise, Idaho, a daughter of Arthur and Ann Smith. The family moved to the Rogue Valley when she was a small child.
On May 24, 1942, in Mount Vernon, Wash., she married Dale Higinbotham, who died June 1, 1993.
Mrs. Higinbotham enjoyed baking, crocheting, and family gatherings.
Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Clifford, Barbara Shope, and Karon Higinbotham, all Central Point, and Dalene Fox, Wasilla, Alaska; a brother, Rolland Smith, Central Point; a sister, Shirley Lindgren, Redding, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Evelyn L. Sult
The graveside service for Evelyn Louise Sult will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Sult, 81, of Eagle Point, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Evelyn McClure on Sept. 2, 1916, in Griswold, Iowa.
On June 25, 1938, in Great Bend, Kan., she married William K. Sult, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Santa Rosa, Calif., 55 years ago.
Mrs. Sult was a member of the Medford Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a past grand guardian of Oregon Job's Daughters, and a past guardian of Shady Cove Bethel, Job's Daughters.
She enjoyed making quilts.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Marva L. Guches, Shady Cove, and Brenda Fogle, Eagle Point; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A son, Jack, died in February. Three brothers also preceded her in death.

Viola M. Johnson
Viola Marie Johnson, 83, of Medford, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at her home. Private entombment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

She was born Viola LaRette on May 24, 1915, in Hancock, Iowa.
On Aug. 2, 1930, in Atlantic, Iowa, she married Freeman Johnson, who survives. The couple moved to the Rogue Valley from Iowa in 1942.
Mrs. Johnson was the office manager for the Railroad Express for 20 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Medford.
She enjoyed bowling, fishing, sewing and crocheting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Dolores Marie Hanscom, San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Gerald LaRette, Omaha, Neb.; and a granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis LaRette.

J. Ralph Berwanger
The memorial service for J. Ralph Berwanger will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Siskiyou Chapel. The Masonic Lodge of Medford will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Berwanger, 86, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 14, 1998) in Medford.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1911, in Creve Coeur, Mo.
In December 1951, in Zurich, Switzerland, he married Nadine Dougherty, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Saudi Arabia in 1966.
Mr. Berwanger traveled extensively while working for Aramco Oil Company, and lived in Saudi Arabia for 20 years.
A 33rd-degree Mason, he was a member of the Scottish Rite and was active in Hillah Temple, Shrine.
He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing and playing bridge.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Elayne Holsing, Medford, and Cindy Hough, Coos Bay; a son, James Ralph Jr., Stockton, Calif.; a brother, Eugene, Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Mae Zimmer, St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Arthur L. Hedrick
The graveside service for Arthur Lee Hedrick will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. A family member will officiate.
Mr. Hedrick, 68, of Shady Cove, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Waterloo, Iowa.
On Oct. 23, 1971, in Des Moines, Iowa, he married Shirley J. McGuire, who survives.
The Hedricks, both employed by the State of Iowa, retired in 1989 and traveled for four years in their motorhome. They moved to Shady Cove in March 1993.
Mr. Hedrick enjoyed the Oregon coast, crabbing, fishing and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John, Knoxville, Iowa; a stepson, Michael McGuire, Smithville, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Christina O'Grady, Boise, Idaho, and Linda Spangler, Bandon; and eight grandchildren.

Harold A. Travis
The memorial service for Harold Albert Travis will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at 908 Diamond St., in Medford. The Rev. S. Colleen Graham will officiate. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Travis, 98, of Medford, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at Hearthstone.

He was born Dec. 10, 1899, in Alderley, Wis.
Mr. Travis served with the Wisconsin State Guard Reserves in 1918.
On Aug. 21, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wis., he married Virginia Pomeroy, who died in 1988. They moved to the Gold Hill from Santa Monica, Calif., in 1953.
He worked for many of the Rogue Valley auto body shops, retiring from Courtesy Chevrolet in 1969.
He enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Coash, Medford; a brother, Chester, Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Jane Jacobsen; a sister, Frances Claffey; and two brothers, William and Wallace.

Jonathan M. Kuester Jr.
Jonathan Mark Kuester Jr., infant son of Jonathan Mark and Shawna Lorraine Webb Kuester, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandmothers, Merry Harris, Central Point, and Brenda Hackett, Medford; and grandfather, John Webb, Monomonie, Wis.

Gary Harvey Shean
The funeral for Gary Harvey Shean will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Siskiyou Chapel, Medford. Pastor Russ Millsaps of the Grants Pass First Assembly of God will officiate. Interment will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Shean, 48, of Central Point, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 8, 1949, in Chico, Calif.
On Jan. 1, 1972, in Grants Pass, he married Jackie Lee Cowger, who survives.
Mr. Shean lived in Grants Pass most of his life before moving to Central Point four years ago.
He worked at the Boise Cascade Laminated Veneer Lumber Operation in White City and had been in the lumber industry for 30 years.
Mr. Shean enjoyed cooking, writing poetry, outdoor sports and country music.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Brady, Cottage Grove; a brother, Edwin, Medford; his mother, Eva M. Joines, Medford; two sisters, Sandy Pritchett, Central Point, and Maryann Brackett, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Perryander Shean.
