Elbert W. Rawlings Jr.
Elbert Wayne Rawlings Jr., 67, formerly of Medford, died Wednesday (July 26, 1998) of cancer at Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento, Calif. His home was in Carmichael, Calif.
No service is planned.

He was born March 4, 1931, in Grandview, Wash.
Mr. Rawlings was a radio and television engineer.
While working at KMED Radio and Television, which is now KTVL in Medford, he met Katherine Sage, who was then a copywriter. They were married Jan. 12, 1963, in Medford.
In 1965, the family moved to Sacramento, where he joined the NBC affiliate KCRA-TV Channel 3, working there 30 years until retiring because of his illness.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Christopher, Chico, Calif., David and Michael, both Sacramento, and Robert, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Jeau Kieffer, Yelm, Wash.; and a granddaughter.

Cora Louise Lanham
Cora Louise Lanham, 82, of Medford, died Friday (July 31, 1998) in Medford. No service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Lee Mission Cemetery in Salem.
She was born Cora Louise Schneider on Aug. 27, 1915, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
On July 5, 1938, in Vancouver, Wash., she married Thomas E. Lanham, who preceded her in death. She moved to Medford from Salem one year ago.
A homemaker, Mrs. Lanham enjoyed shopping and spending time with friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Medford.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald, Medford, and James, Portland; two daughters, Gertrude Ubel, Kelso, Wash., and Kathleen Zepeda, Portland; and two grandchildren.

Jackie Holmes
Jaclyn "Jackie" Holmes, 76, of Medford, died Friday (July 31, 1998) at Hearthstone Nursing Center. No service is planned.
She was born March 16, 1922, in Medford, the daughter of Fay and Diamond Flynn.

She grew up in Medford, where she attended Washington Elementary, McLoughlin Junior High and Medford Senior High schools. She also attended Oregon State University.
On Aug. 21, 1955, in Menlo Park, Calif., she married Bruce Holmes, who survives. They moved back to the Rogue Valley four years ago.
Mrs. Holmes was an avid volunteer in gift and thrift shops across Latin America, including Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Peru, El Salvador and Guatemala.
In Medford she volunteered with the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary and contributed to the remodeling of the RVMC gift shop.
She enjoyed her garden and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Clark Allworth, Hillsboro; a sister, Dorothy Ross, Salem; and three grandchildren.

Marian L. Duncan
The funeral for Marian L. Duncan will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Perl Funeral Service, Siskiyou Chapel. Pastor Steve Burman of Faith Baptist Church, Grants Pass, will officiate. Burial will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Duncan, 83, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (July 30, 1998) at Harbeck House in Grants Pass.

She was born Marian Hawkins on Aug. 27, 1914, in Hawthorne, Wis.
In December 1932, in Missouri, she married Arthur Duncan, who preceded her in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Southern California.
Mrs. Duncan designed and made custom draperies.
She enjoyed her home, reading poetry and crocheting.
Survivors include a son, Loyd, Central Point; a daughter, Louise E. Smith, Grants Pass; eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ramon.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Perl Funeral Services, Siskiyou Chapel.
John Donald Groom
A graveside service for John Donald Groom will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Rev. Clifford L. Blinman of Trinity Episcopal Church, Ashland, will officiate. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church.

He was born Jan. 18, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Mr. Groom spent 22 years in the U.S. Navy, serving as a corpsman and later teaching clinical bacteriology. He retired in 1970 as a lieutenant commander in the supply corps.
He graduated from San Francisco University in 1971 and taught in middle and high schools and junior college until 1980.
He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980, where he met and married his wife, Diane, who survives.
Mr. Groom, a part-time professional musician for most of his life, was a manager and drum sergeant for the Southern Oregon Scottish Bagpipe Band and also was actively involved in many sports.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Jennifer Grist; a daughter, Cheryl Anne Merrick, Provo, Utah; a son, James, Bodega Bay, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Phillis Pearl Cayo
The graveside service for Phillis Pearl Cayo will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Joel Williams of the Medford First Assembly of God will officiate.
Mrs. Cayo, 51, of White City, died Tuesday (July 28, 1998) at her home.

She was born Phillis Whiteley on April 5, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
On March 28, 1965, in Reno, she married Kenneth Cayo, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 24 years ago from Kingsford, Mich.
Mrs. Cayo was a homemaker.
She was a Christian and enjoyed ceramics, woodworking and crafts.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Richard, White City, and Dale, Orange Park, Fla.; three daughters, Michelle Winchell, Central Point, Tammy Clasen, White City, and Joyce Atchison, Round Rock, Texas; her mother and stepfather, Jesse and Guy Ramsey, Gold Hill; two brothers, Bud Ramsey, Central Point, and Daniel Ramsey, Gold Hill; five sisters, Debbie McQuiston, Rogue River, Brenda Savage, Delena Grimm and Terry Rand, all Gold Hill, and Hazel Baxter, Cashmere, Wash.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Central Valley Chapel.

Robert Wesley Stilley
Robert Wesley Stilley, 85, of Central Point, died Wednesday (July 29, 1998) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.
He was born April 24, 1913, in Benton, Ill.
On Aug. 10, 1935, in Mount Shasta, Calif., he married Eleanor Hart, who survives.
Mr. Stilley was a Northwest logger for many years and owned and operated a logging truck business.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Robert E. and Richard A., both Central Point, and Larry D., Mount Shasta; and four grandchildren.

George R. Burks
The graveside service for George R. Burks will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. The Veterans for Veterans Chaplain and Guard will officiate.
Mr. Burks, 74, formerly of Jacksonville, died Sunday (July 26, 1998) in Roseville, Calif. His home was in Roseville.
He was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Flippin, Ark.
Mr. Burks was a self-employed house painter.
He lived in the Rogue Valley for 28 years before moving to Sacramento, Calif., in 1995.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Mr. Burks was a member of the Medford Eagles Lodge and enjoyed working in his yard, gardening and raising chickens.
Survivors include a son, Billy, Medford; four daughters, Barbara Dorsey, Jacksonville, Georgia Chadwick, Sacramento, Maudie "Elain" Wilson, Winterhaven, Calif., and Sharon Querns, Riverside, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Kibbie and Lina Vrash.
