Everett `Bill' Harbert
Everett "Bill," Harbert, 81, of Medford, died Wednesday (Aug. 12, 1998) at his home. A graveside service was held.

He was born June 27, 1917, in Sasakwa, Okla.
On Dec. 22, 1945, in Joplin, Mo., he married Ruth Evers, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Harbert moved to the Rogue Valley 18 years ago from Juneau, Alaska.
He enjoyed fishing, bridge and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Andrea Harbert, Rogue River; a son, Mike, Medford; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Stanley M. Garthwaite
The graveside service for Stanley McMillan Garthwaite will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. Ellwood Flock will officiate.
Mr. Garthwaite, 86, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (Aug. 13, 1998) at his home.
He was born March 28, 1912, in Eltham, England.
As a teenager, Mr. Garthwaite apprenticed with his father and became a gopher on many lighthouses on the west coast of England. There he learned stone masonry, which he enjoyed until his death. He also helped his father repair London's Big Ben.
On Dec. 26, 1935, he married Elizabeth Rose, who died in 1990.
After joining the Royal Air Force in 1939, he became head of the ground crews for the squadron that bombed the Ruhr Dams in Germany. The squadron was made famous in the movie "Dam Busters."
In 1950, the family immigrated to Vancouver, B.C. Five years later they moved to Southern California and settled in Burbank.
Mr. Garthwaite owned and operated the Stanley Garthwaite Rolls Royce Agency Ltd. in Beverly Hills from 1963 to 1978, where he was known as "Mr. Rolls Royce of Beverly Hills. After his retirement in 1978, he moved to Medford from Marina Del Rey, Calif.
In September 1990, he married A. Craig Mitchell, who died in January, 1993.
Mr. Garthwaite was a member of the National Rifle Association and a President's Task Force. He enjoyed yachting, fishing, camping and shooting.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Barnes, Shady Cove; three sons, David, Palm Springs, Calif., Robin, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Alan, Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Colin, in New Zealand; and Keith, Sydney, B.C.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Jean McCauley
The graveside service for Jean McCauley will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor Ken Schubert will officiate.
Mrs. McCauley, 92, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 9, 1998) at Hearthstone.
She was born Jean DeBo on Jan. 16, 1906, in Somis, Calif.
She attended school in Ocean View and worked on her parents' ranch there.
After her marriage to Alexander B. Lopez, the couple owned and operated a tractor shop in Oxnard, Calif., until his death in 1950. She then worked at the Camarillo, Calif., State Hospital until her retirement.
In 1961, she married Morris McCauley, and they moved to Applegate in 1974. They were later divorced.
After selling her home in 1992, she moved to Monterey Village in Medford.
She attended the Applegate Community Church, where she enjoyed church activities, and was a member of the Jacksonville Eastern Star. She also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Robert A. Lopez, San Antonio, Texas; three granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John DeBo Jr.; and three sisters, Marguerite Duarte, Louise Logue, and Norma.

William G. Mattix
William Gail Mattix, 67, Phoenix, died Thursday, (Aug. 13, 1988) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.
He was born May 23, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio.
On Feb. 28, 1958, in Hawthorne, Calif., he married Marguerite A. Leech, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Terrance, Calif., in 1964.
Mr. Mattix owned and operated Mattix Appliance Parts in Phoenix. He also owned Mattix Cycle in Los Angeles and Medford from 1965 to this year.
He was a member of the Southern Oregon Bass Club and the Southern Oregon Philatelic Society. He enjoyed fishing, stamp collecting, boy scouting and motorcycling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Mark Mattix, Seattle, Wash., and Christopher Mattix, of Oregon; a daughter Sherri Mattix, Medford; and his mother, Lucille Mattix Wolcott, Camas Valley.
Octavia Zeitler
The funeral service for Octavia Zeitler will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Siskiyou Chapel in Medford. The Rev. Carmelo Mifsud of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Zeitler, 93, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 14, 1998) in Medford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Scholarship Fund, 816 Black Oak Drive, Medford, OR 97504.
She was born Sept. 2, 1904, in St. Paul.
On May 13, 1934, in Klamath Falls, she married Donald Zeitler, who died in February, 1986.
They moved to the Rogue Valley from Vancouver, Wash., in 1949.
She was active in the Medford Garden Club, and once was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Zeitler, Central Point and C.A. Zeitler, Aloha; a daughter, Donna Wiley, Vancouver, Wash.; one sister; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Siskiyou Chapel.
Anna L. Miller
The funeral for Anna L. Miller will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford. The Rev. Stan Way, of Cornerstone Christian Church will officiate.
Mrs. Miller, 82, died Thursday (Aug. 13, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Anna L. Whiteaker on Oct. 13, 1915 in Sparta, Tenn.
In 1965, at Reno, Nev., she married Laurel Miller, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Miller lived in the Rogue Valley for 32 years. She was a member of the Sams Valley Grange and the Sams Valley Ladies Extension.
She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening and reading.
Survivors include two brothers, Cleo Whiteaker and J.P. Whiteaker, both of Sparta, Tenn.; and a sister, Christine Clouse, White Bluff, Tenn.
Friends may pay their respects today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel.
Christine Irene Walls
Christine Irene Walls, 16, died Thursday (Aug. 13, 1998). A private memorial service has been held.
She was born Nov. 11, 1981 in Reno, Nev., and lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.
Christine was a Camp Fire Girl and a member of Sparks, a boys and girls religious group.
She played the cello for three years in the Youth Symphony. She also played volleyball in grade school and middle school.
She was a member of her school's honor society.
She shared an interest in British cars with her parents, and enjoyed attending British car rallies as well as restoring the cars.
Survivors include her parents, Christopher and Victoria Walls, Medford; her grandparents, Andrea Strassburg, Medford, and Irene and Rod Foote, Medford; and many family members and friends.

Amy Florence Fisher
Amy Florence Fisher, 83, died Thursday (Aug. 13, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.
She was born Amy Florence Elm on Jan. 15, 1915, in Buxton, N.D.
On Feb. 14, 1938, at Long Beach, Calif., she married William Fisher, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Northridge, Calif., in 1988.
Mrs. Fisher enjoyed golf and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Fisher, Medford, and Stephen Fisher, Gardnerville, Nev.; four sisters, Evelyn Gee, Salina, Utah, Adelaide Crandall and Adeline Gallagher, both of Newbury Park, Calif., Loraine Reed, Yreka; and three grandchildren.
