James Dennis
1927-2004
James Carl Dennis, a 14-year resident of Yoncalla, died Feb. 26 at the age of 77 from a heart attack.
He was born Feb. 15, 1927, in LeMesa, Texas, to Thomas and Sara Dennis.
He grew up and attended school in Hillsboro, Texas.
He married June Thompson in California Jan. 19, 1958.
He formerly lived in Mission Viejo, Calif.
He was served in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked for Harvey Aluminum Co. in California and as a telephone lineman in Texas.
He was a rancher.
His hobbies included horses and hunting with his favorite hound, Blue Cindy.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Yoncalla Assembly of God church.
He earned many medals competing in the Golden Age Games in Louisiana, Texas, Wyoming and Kansas.
His son, Gary Dennis, and daughter, Carla Diane, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife; brother: Billy Joe Dennis of Cottage Grove; sisters: Mary Turner of Grandview, Texas; and Frances Ball and Barbara Dennis of Yoncalla; sons: Thomas Dennis of Arkansas and David Dennis of Apple Valley, Calif.; daughter: Becky Hughes of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation was Monday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
A service was Tuesday and interment was at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Chester "Chet" Hosman
1908-2004
Chester "Chet" Hosman, a 74-year resident of Cottage Grove, died Feb. 22 at the age of 95 from age-related causes.
He was born March 7, 1908, in Goodwin, Okla., to Charles and Laura Hosman.
His family moved to Myrtle Point when he was a child.
He graduated from Myrtle Point High School.
He moved to Cottage Grove in 1930.
He married Minnie Ramsey Aug. 23, 1927, in Myrtle Point.
He worked at service stations and mills in the early years.
He was a school bus driver for South Lane School District for 20 years and retired in June 1973.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, Sixth and Gibbs.
He was active in the community and volunteered with Senior Wheels from 1980 to 1992.
His wife preceded him in death in 2001 as well as a daughter.
Survivors include daughters: Bettie Fletcher of Albany, Jean Sarff of Dallas and Lorene Scott of North Bend; son: Lloyd Hosman of Knightstown, Ind., and son-in-law: Robert Raisor of Cottage Grove.
A private family gathering was held at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Marietta Campbell
1955-2004
Marietta Campbell, a lifelong resident of Cottage Grove, died Feb. 27 at the age of 49 from cancer.
She was born Jan. 5, 1955, in Cottage Grove to Gene and Anella (Martin) Campbell of Cottage Grove.
She graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1973 and received an associate's degree from Lane Community College in 1975.
She worked 28 years at Zeller and Co. accounting firm.
She loved spending time with family, travel, church, University of Oregon sports, working with Habitat for Humanity, photography and camping.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, Sixth and Gibbs, and the London Grange.
Survivors include her parents: Gene and Anella Campbell of Cottage Grove; brothers: Scot and Drew Campbell of Cottage Grove; sisters: Sue Sturgess and Jan Clack of Creswell and Vivian Hoppe of Cheshire; 19 nieces; two great nieces and nephews; and many aunts and uncles.
A service was held Tuesday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
A private family burial was held at Bemis Cemetery in Cottage Grove.

Francisco Ruiz
1907-2004
Francisco Ruiz, 96, of Modesto, Calif., died Feb. 13 at Modesto Convale-scent Hospital.
He was a native of Zacatecas, Mexico, and lived in Modesto, Calif., for 30 years.
He was an evangelist for 60 years and was a member of Apostolic Assembly First Church of Modesto.
He was preceded in death by a brother, sister and three sons.
He is survived by his wife: Lucia Ruiz of Modesto, Calif.; children: Seferino Ruiz and Jose Ruiz of Sacramento, Santiago Ruiz of Everett, Wash., Epifano Ruiz of Marysville, Wash., Marcos Ruiz of Creswell, Emeterio Ruiz of Cottage Grove, Jesse Ruiz of Mount Vernon, Wash.; Elida Rodriguez of Empire, Hortencia Espinoza and Rose Ruiz of Modesto, Calif.; brother: Estanislado Ruiz of Mexico; 38 grandchildren; and over 50 great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Empire, Calif., Feb. 18.
