Sanford Rose
The memorial service for Sanford Rose will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. The Rev. John Braund of the Phoenix Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Mr. Rose, 89, of Junction City, formerly of Ashland, died Tuesday (Aug. 25, 1998) at the Grandview Nursing Home in Junction City.
He was born Feb. 8, 1909, in Ashland, a son of Gladys and George Rose. He was raised in Ashland.
In the 1930s, Mr. Rose worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, and served in the Army Railroad Division during WWII.
Mr. Rose owned and operated a florist and greenhouse business in Klamath Falls with his brother-in-law, Charles Mack.
In 1949 he moved to Springfield and opened the McKenzie Market, which he operated for 17 years.
Survivors include a son, Thomas, Springfield; a sister, Virginia Mack, Klamath Falls; and a granddaughter.

Henry Ellsworth Francis
The funeral for Henry Ellsworth Francis will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.
Mr. Francis, 82, of Ashland, died Sunday (Aug. 23, 1998) at his home.
He was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Hamilton, Mont., and graduated from high school in Centralia, Wash.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in education in 1942 from Western Washington College, Bellingham. He graduated from the University of Southern California, earning an master of arts degree in 1959 and a doctor of philosphy degree in 1964.
During World War II, he served as a captain in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps.
He was manager of Mount McKinley Airways in Seattle from 1946 to 1949.
He was an instructor at Western Washington College, an associate professor at the University of Washington, an instructor at then-Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, assistant professor at then-Southern Oregon College, a lecturer at USC, manager of presentation for C.F. Braun & Co. in California, editor of Technical Writing magazine, and manager of publications and project proposals for the engineering firm Ralph M. Parsons & Co.
He retired in 1979 and moved to Ashland.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Hegler, Ashland; two sons, Gary Hegler, Ashland, and Scott, Oceanside, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Francis, Pasadena, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Dale Sterling Smith
Dale Sterling Smith, 76, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Aug. 21, 1998) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born May 12, 1922, in Denver, Colo.
On March 24, 1975, in Las Vegas, he married Bettie Wells Sechrist, who survives.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a torpedoman's mate 2nd class.
He moved to Grants Pass in 1948 from New York.
Mr. Smith was a member of the American Legion in Grants Pass and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, William, Grants Pass, and Dave, Portland; a daughter, Cheryl Backovich, Yreka, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Herman August Klick
Herman August Klick, 92, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 23, 1998) at Rogue Valley Manor. A private service is planned.

He was born April 17, 1906, in Devils Lake, N.D.
On July 15, 1935, in Devils Lake, he married Charlotte E. Smith, who survives.
Mr. Klick manufactured countertops and cabinets and built homes and commercial buildings.
He moved to Medford six years ago from Grants Pass.
Mr. Klick was a member of the Methodist Church in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and enjoyed reading, woodworking, farming and ranching.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Peggy Rosendahl, Grants Pass; a son, Douglas, Huntington Beach, Calif.; a sister, Recca Kunkel, Devils Lake; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Loren and Henry; and three sisters, Tressa Powell, Hilda Harm and Louise Gill.

Sal Trombino
Mass will be celebrated for Sal Trombino at 10 a.m. today in Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, Central Point. The Rev. Jim Clifford will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Trombino, 71, of Medford, died Monday (Aug. 24, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 9, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Trombino moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971 from California's San Fernando Valley.
On Nov. 15, 1972, in Grants Pass, he married Kit Alexander, who survives.
The couple owned and operated Drifter's Campground from 1972 to 1983.
Mr. Trombino operated Trobino's Restaurant in Jacksonville until his retirement in 1991.
He enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting and blackjack.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five daughters, Lucienne Baughman, Cerise Bergstrom, Janine Gaultney and Michelle Trombino, all Medford, and Sherri Brown, Clackamas; two sons, Joseph, White City, and Ken Girvin, Grants Pass; a sister, Rosary Trombino, Medford; and six grandchildren.

Donald Dwayne Unruh
The graveside service for Donald Dwayne Unruh will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. Judge Jim Hall of Rogue River will officiate.
Mr. Unruh, 60, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 23, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Red Bluff, Calif.
Mr. Unruh served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1963.
He moved to the Rogue Valley 24 years ago.
Mr. Unruh worked for USF Reddaway until his retirement this year.
On Aug. 8, 1998, in Medford, he married Corrine Johnson, who survives.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union No. 962 Medford, and enjoyed camping.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his mother, Iona Kinglesmith, Barstow, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Nicole Ann O'Neal Middleton, Las Vegas; and a step-grandson.

Donald Lee Weinberger
Donald Lee Weinberger, 66, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 21, 1998) in Florence, where he was living. A private service was held.

He was born July 7, 1932, in Pasadena, Calif.
Mr. Weinberger served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Alaska during the Korean War.
On Nov. 5, 1955, in San Bernardino, Calif., he married Barbara L. Cox, who survives.
Mr. Weinberger was a highway design engineer for the state of California before moving to Applegate.
He and his wife operated the Applegate Shopping Center from 1967 to 1977.
They moved to Florence 15 years ago from Medford.
Mr. Weinberger enjoyed fishing and crabbing, gardening and reading nonfiction books.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Doug, White City; a daughter, Shelia Fitch, Eugene; a brother, David, in Tennessee; and a granddaughter.
