Betty Grizzell
Betty A. Grizzell of Phoenix died Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1998) in Lake Oswego.
She was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Chautauqua, Kan.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Paso Robles, Calif.
She worked as a secretary for the Southern Oregon Historical Society from 1982-88 and for the Jackson County Library system in the late 1980s.
Mrs. Grizzell was active in the Sierra Club, Siskiyou Wheelmen and the YMCA.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Cripe, Medford; two sons, Robert Grizzell, Tigard, and Forbes Grizzell, of Westminster, Calif.; a sister, Pauline Graham, Bellflower, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Bob Frazier
Robert Wesley "Bob" Frazier, 70, of Ashland, died Saturday (Sept. 5, 1998) at his home. No service is planned.

Mr. Frazier was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Ashland to Roy and Mildred Frazier.
On Dec. 2, 1968, in Reno, he married the former Jean Nichols, who survives.
He attended Ashland schools and studied accounting at what was then Southern Oregon College.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, where he oversaw the motor pool in Yokohama during the occupation of Japan.
After the war, he worked in the Southern Pacific Railroad yard, drove a logging truck for Lithia Lumber and worked as a fire watchman at Squaw Mountain Lookout. He later worked with has father, Roy Frazier, who had a postal service contract to pick up mail at the train depot, service stations and school buses. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed boating, skiing, snowmobiling and hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Bryan Frazier, Ashland; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Frazier Dunn.

Patricia S. Dean
Pat S. Newland Clark Dean, 62, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (Sept. 3, 1998) at her home in Lakewood, Wash. An open house will be held Sunday, Sept. 13, at the family home in Lakewood.

She was born on March 17, 1936, in Medford, where she grew up.
Mrs. Dean graduated from Oregon State University.
After extensive travel, she settled with her family in Lakewood.
Mrs. Dean was a basket weaver, artist and poet who enjoyed entertaining children with stories. She also enjoyed golfing and fishing with her husband.
Survivors include her husband, Charley Dean, Lakewood; five daughters, Robin Sharp, Beaverton, Jaclyn Lorenzen and Michelle Jones, both Puyallup, Wash., Denise Timm, Bonney Lake, Wash., and Lori Clark, Olympia, Wash.; her mother, Evelyn Newland, Medford; two brothers, Bill Newland, Oakhurst, Calif., and Rick Newland, Elk River, Minn.; two stepsons; and eight grandchildren. Her father, Herm Newland, preceded her in death.

Florence A. Wiegand
Florence Amelia Wiegand, 82, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 2, 1998) at her home. Private inurnment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

She was born Florence Wransky on March 11, 1916, in Traverse City, Mich.
She attended St. Francis High School and received a registered nursing degree from Wesley School of Nursing in 1943.
On Aug. 12, 1944, in Baltimore, Md., she married D. James Herman Wiegand, who survives. They lived in Aberdeen, Md., until World War II ended, then moved to California where Mr. Wiegand worked at the Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake.
In 1990 they moved to the Rogue Valley from San Diego, Calif.
Mrs. Wiegand studied group counseling at the Psychiatric Institute in Washington, D.C., and was a certified clinical member of the International Transactional Analysis Association.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Elissa M. McGarry, Portland; and a sister, Stella Lux, Phoenix, Ariz.

Harold H. `Mike' Hunt
The memorial service for Harold H. "Mike" Hunt will be at 11 a.m. today in the Fort Jones, Calif., Cemetery. Officers and members of Perry Harris American Legion, Etna, Calif., will officiate.
Mr. Hunt, 73, of White City, died Saturday (Aug. 29, 1998) at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City.

He was born on April 19, 1925, in Murdo, S.D.
On June 26, 1943, in Lead, S.D., he married Betty Pouriea. They were married for 52 years.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he worked at Valley Tire in Redding, Calif.
Mr. Hunt served 25 years in the U.S. Merchant Marine.
He moved to Eagle Point in 1972 from Yoncalla, then to White City in 1994.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel, Fort Jones, and Michael, Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Sharon Howe, St. Maries, Idaho, and Diana Berry, Greenview, Calif.; a brother, Charles, Longview, Wash.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Betty, Boise, Idaho.

Grace J. Kelley
The memorial service for Grace J. Kelley will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Dwayne Robinson of Ashland First Baptist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Kelley, 90, of Ashland, died Sunday (Aug. 30, 1998) at her home.

She was born Grace DeVries on Jan. 1, 1908, on the family homestead near Goldendale, Wash.
She graduated high school in Toppenish, Wash. While in high school she was active in the debate club, Girl Reserves' Sunday school, and Christian Endeavor.
She attended Santa Ana, Calif., College and Oregon State University and received a teaching certificate from Southern Oregon Normal School in 1935.
At age 56, she returned to college, earning a bachelor of arts degree from Southern Oregon State College in 1965.
She taught in Gold Beach and Bandon and was named 1972 outstanding elementary school teacher of America while teaching in Butte Falls.
She retired to Ashland and moved to Mountain View Retirement Center in 1997.
She was a member of Ashland First Bible Church, active in the Community Bible Church and PTA in Butte Falls, Ladies Aid, Missionary Society, Daily Vacation Bible School, Child Evangelism Fellowship, 4-H and Home Extension.
Survivors include a son, James L., Central Point; a daughter, Rhonda Chen, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a sister, Elaine Higinbotham, Pendleton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Prescott; and a brother, Ned De-Vries, who was killed in World War II while serving as a co-pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Bebe Claire Benning
Bebe Claire Benning, 82, of Ashland, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Linda Vista Care Center. A private service was held.

She was born Bebe Cox on May 10, 1916, in San Francisco.
On Nov. 25, 1936, in Novato, Calif., she married Quincy C. Benning, who died in 1983.
Mrs. Benning lived in Marin County, Calif., for many years, where she drove a school bus.
She moved to Ashland in 1974.
Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla Douglas, Ashland, and Penny Berensen, Mount Shasta, Calif.

Marvin L. Eastwood
Marvin L. Eastwood, 86, of Medford, died Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1998) at his home. A memorial service will be held later.

He was born March 4, 1912, in Clarkston, Wash.
On April 24, 1937, in Tacoma, Wash., he married Lillian Nelson, who survives.
Mr. Eastwood was a self-employed painter until his retirement.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gale, Grants Pass; a daughter, Barbara Klieber, Santa Fe, N.M.; a brother, Wayne, Palm Desert, Calif.; a sister, Virginia Marabito, San Martin, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
