Jerald Lynn Clyde

The memorial service and celebration of life for Jerald Lynn Clyde will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the family home, 2355 Millers Gulch Road, Gold Hill. A potluck meal will follow.

Mr. Clyde, 71, of Rogue River, died Monday (Oct. 12, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson County Library Services, Rogue River Branch, Jerald Clyde memorial fund, 413 W. Main St., Medford, 97501.

He was born March 27, 1927, in Blackfoot, Idaho.

On June 25, 1949, in Ashland, he married Elda Carlisle, who survives.

Mr. Clyde moved to the Rogue Valley in 1952 from Montana.

He was a self-employed timber faller until his retirement nine years ago.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the South Pacific.

Mr. Clyde was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Danny, Salt Lake City, Utah, and James, Fairbanks, Alaska; three brothers, Hugh, Darby, Utah, Arthur, Seattle, and Kenneth; five sisters, Evelyn Laing, Washington, Utah, May Kitchen, St. George, Utah, Norma Martin and Colleen Anderson, both Salt Lake City, and Ruth Goregen, Van Nuys, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark in 1983; two brothers, Grant and Clarence; and a sister, Leah Mosio.

Thelma Arnold Bailey

The graveside service for Thelma F. Arnold Bailey will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. A nephew, the Rev. Michael Arnold of the First Nazarene Church, Roseville, Calif., will officiate.

Mrs. Bailey, 88, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday (Oct. 13, 1998) at her home.

She was born Thelma Chastain on Dec. 8, 1909, in Chouteau, Okla.

On July 21, 1927, in Chouteau, she married Elvis C. Arnold, who died in 1962. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946 from Oklahoma.

Mrs. Bailey played stand-up bass and harmonica with her husband's country western band from 1948 to 1950.

She was a member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include a brother, J.B. Chastain, Central Point; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Arnold; three brothers; and three sisters.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Carl Dale Bowers

The memorial service for Carl Dale Bowers will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Faith Bible Center Foursquare Church, 2200 Roberts Road, Medford. Interment will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mr. Bowers, 57, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 12, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 15, 1941 in Tolleson, Ariz., and moved to the Rogue Valley 47 years ago.

Mr. Bowers was a foreman with Rogue Disposal for 28 years, retiring in 1996.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed collecting antiques and jewelry.

Survivors include his companion, Rod Rollins, Medford; a daughter, Lisa Scott, in Washington; a son, Aaron Rollins, in Guam; three brothers, Rusty Leard, Medford, Ken Leard, Sams Valley, and Earl Leard, in California; three sisters, including his twin, Gale Hackworth, Gold Hill, Helen Scott, Central Point, and Patty Moore, in Florida; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Jane, Elsie Martin, Lynn Miller, and Jeanie Koch; and a brother, William Bowers.

Catherine Garnet Box

The graveside service for Catherine Garnet Box will be at 2 p.m. today in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The Rev. Arminda Alexander of Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Ashland, will officiate.

Mrs. Box, 82, of Talent, died Monday (Oct. 12, 1998) at Ashland Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Dubbs Cancer Center, 2825 East Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Catherine McNeil on April 11, 1916, in Fargo, N.D.

On June 15, 1936, in Spokane, Wash., she married Richard Box, who died in 1984.

Mrs. Box was a bookkeeper in Washington and most recently was an antiques dealer.

She moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from Port Angeles, Wash.

Mrs. Box enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Patrick R., Medford; a daughter, Carol J. Cognata, Santa Rosa, Calif.; a sister, Jean Cooper, Naalehu, Hawaii; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

William M. Jacobs

The memorial service for William M. Jacobs will at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Rogue Valley Manor, Medford. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Jacobs, 90, of Medford, died Saturday (Oct. 10, 1998) at the Rogue Valley Manor.

The family suggests contributions to the Rogue Valley Manor Foundation, 1200 Mira Mar Drive, Medford, OR 97504.

Mr. Jacobs was born Nov. 18, 1907, in Pasadena, Calif. On Nov. 1, 1930, he married the former Frances Scoville, who died in November 1995. The pair moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 from Irvine, Calif.

Mr. Jacobs was the former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Southern California Gas Company, retiring in 1972. He was past president of the Los Angeles-area Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Los Angeles Economic Roundtable.

He was also past chairman of the Central City Association and past president of the American Gas Association.

Survivors include a son, William M. Jacobs Jr. of Central Point; two daughters, Janice White of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., and Carol J. Anspach of Sacramento, Calif; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His second wife, Zepha Flowers Jacobs, died in 1998.

Nancy Elrod

No service is planned for Nancy Elizabeth Elrod, 84, of Central Point, who died Saturday (Oct. 10, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford OR 97501.

Mrs. Elrod was born Nancy Parks on Sept. 3, 1914, in Round Mountain, Calif. On Aug. 4, 1950 in Reno, Nev., she married Everett Elrod, who died in January 1997.

Mrs. Elrod spent much of her childhood in Ashland and attended Ashland High School. She spent most of her life living in Southern Oregon and Northern California, and returned to the Rogue Valley in 1983 from Sunnyvale, Calif.

She enjoyed animals, camping and reading.

Survivors include a daughter, Darleen Ritchey, Central Point; a son, Leonard E. Jones, San Jose, Calif; two sisters, Teresa Withrow, Sweet Home, and Barbara Brownlee, Central Point; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Inez Crandall, and three brothers, Henry, Evan and Milton Parks.

Charles McManus

The graveside service for Charles F. McManus will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 13, 1998) at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point.

Mr. McManus, 75, of White City, died Thursday (Oct. 1, 1998) at the Medford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

He was born May 27, 1923, in Chesterfield, S.C. He had lived in the Rogue Valley for about seven years. Mr. McManus served in the U.S. Army in 1943.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Gregory Wolfe

An open house for Gregory Gordon Wolfe will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at 650 Forest St., Ashland. Memories will be shared at 5 p.m.

Mr. Wolfe, 39, formerly of Ashland, died of a heart attack Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at his home in San Luis Obispo, Calif. His ashes will be buried in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to San Luis Obispo Child Development Center, 1490 Southwood Drive, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.

He was born June 10, 1959, in Chicago, Ill. At an early age he moved to Ashland, where he graduated from Ashland Senior High School in 1976.

Mr. Wolfe was western regional service manager for Spectravac Inc. He lived and worked in southeast Alaska, Los Angeles and Seattle before settling in San Luis Obispo in 1992.

Mr. Wolfe will first be remembered for his sense of humor. He enjoyed golf and music, and had a special fondness for animals and wolf T-shirts.

He served on the board of the Sharkey Family Foundation, a charitable organization devoted to helping children.

Survivors include his companion, Pam Scheen and her son, Michael Scheen, both San Luis Obispo; his parents, Patricia Wolfe and Gordon Wolfe, both Ashland; a brother, Carl, Seattle; and his grandfathers, Albert Sharkey, Medford, and Arthur Koch, Albuquerque, N.M.

Arrangements: Reis Chapel, San Luis Obispo.
