Andrew D. Southerland
The memorial service for Andrew Daniel Southerland will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Memory Gardens Chapel, Medford. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Southerland, 29, of Medford, died Sunday (Nov. 1, 1998) in an automobile accident in Central Point.
He was born Feb. 23, 1969, in Medford.
Mr. Southerland graduated from high school in Meadowlands, Minn.
He was a graduate of Barrett Business College, where he also was a student instructor.
Mr. Southerland was a delivery person for Evergreen Pharmaceutical Co. in Medford.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his parents, Bobby and Barbara Jean Southerland, Medford; a sister, Debra Callahan, Medford; and grandmother, Camilla G. Kadin, Medford.

Ray Burtron Burnett
Ray Burtron Burnett, 91, of Talent, died Saturday (Oct. 31, 1998) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Talent, a son of William Thomas and Lillie Rosetta Burnett.
On April 13, 1936, in Medford, he married Alice Jane Niswonger, who survives.
Mr. Burnett was an orchard worker, a carpenter, and a cement finisher for 55 years, retiring in 1969.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Doreen Feeler, Ashland, Barbara Derise, Medford, and April Denham, Mount Shasta, Calif.; two sons, Thomas and Robert, both Talent; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Valeta Lenaburg; and a brother, Milan "Blondey."

Rose L. Croxton
Rose L. Croxton, 86, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 29, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. A memorial service will be held later.
She was born Rose Zimmerman on Feb. 29, 1912, in Bogopol, Ukraine, Russia.
She grew up in Odessa, Russia, where she was separated from her family during the Bolshevik Revolution. Later she and her sister were reunited with their mother in Shanghai, China, and they lived together there for several years.
On March 17, 1931, she married Victor H. Croxton, who was serving in the U.S. Navy in Nanking, China. Mr. Croxton died in 1980.
The Croxtons moved to Sams Valley in 1956 from Los Altos, Calif. They were active members of Sams Valley Grange for many years.
During her husband's 27-year military career she set up homes in many cities. She enjoyed cooking, reading and knitting.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald, Medford, and Michael, Toledo, Wash.; three daughters, Gloria Strickland and Alyce Kunze, both Medford, and Betty Hill, Sandpoint, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A sister, Elizabeth Kessel, preceded her in death.

Lunsford B. Jones
Lunsford B. Jones, 83, of Medford, died Friday (Oct. 30, 1998) at The Three Fountains Nursing Center.

Mr. Jones was born July 4, 1915, in Los Angeles. He moved to Ashland in the 1950s and worked as a car dealer for Ashland Motors. He moved from the Rogue Valley to Southern California, returning 10 years ago to live in Medford.
He was a member of the Ashland Rotary Club and the Rogue Valley Country Club.
Mr. Jones enjoyed fishing and golf.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marilyn E. Jones, Medford; a daughter, Margaret Ann "Ani" Williams, Medford; two sons, John Lunsford Jones, Redding, Calif., and Phillip M. Jones, Encinitas, Calif.; a brother, Myers Jones, Eugene; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Meier, in 1997.

Ruth T. Nye
The memorial service for Ruth Theresa Nye will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Rogue Valley Manor Chapel. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Miss Nye, 103, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 28, 1998) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center.

She was born July 23, 1895, in Devils Lake, N.D., daughter of Stephen A. and Anna Gundlach Nye. The family moved to Medford in 1907. The Nye family had wheat acreage that they soon planted in pears. They eventually owned several orchards and a processing plant. Miss Nye became an expert at picking and packing fruit.
Miss Nye graduated from the University of Oregon and taught arts and crafts, first at St. Paul's Episcopal School in Walla Walla, Wash., then for many years in the Portland schools.
When her mother became ill, she retired early and returned to Medford to live.
When the Manor opened in 1961, she moved there and continued her interest in arts and crafts. She was largely responsible for enameling becoming a popular craft there.
Along with the late Annette Gray, Miss Nye gardened, and when the Manor's Health Center was located on the third floor, the two created and maintained a roof garden outside the lounge for the pleasure of the patients.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Medford.
Survivors include a nephew, Philip Nye, Portland; a niece, Marilyn Ruth Wilson, Carlisle, Pa.; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Nye, Medford. Preceding her in death were a brother, Stephen G. Nye, who died in 1981, and a sister, Mildred.

Nelda Lewis-Swisher
The memorial service for Nelda Nadine Lewis-Swisher will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford. The Rev. Alan Jackson will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Garden at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Ms. Lewis, 74, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 22, 1998), at her home in Kent, Wash.

She was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Hollister, Calif., and grew up in the Los Angeles area.
She graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1945. She attended the Presbyterian College of Christian Education in connection with the McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Ill., graduating with a master's degree in Christian education in 1947.
She was director of Christian education at the First Presbyterian Church in Port Arthur, Texas, for two years before marrying the Rev. Otis D. Swisher in 1949. They ministered to groups of small rural churches in northeast Texas until coming to Medford in 1953. They were divorced in 1986.
In 1968, she became a social studies and Spanish teacher at Mid-High School in Medford. She took some of her students to Mexico four consecutive summers to immerse them in the culture and language.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, teachers honorary, and under its sponsorship started a Jackson County language bank -- a list of foreign language speakers who helped others with translation.
She won a scholarship to study Latin at the intensive language study summer school at the University of California at Berkeley, sponsored by the Medford Branch of the American Association of University Women. She then taught Latin in the Medford School District until it was discontinued.
In Medford, she was membership chairman for the Community Concert Association and worked with Laubach Literacy. Upon retirement in 1984, she was a volunteer at the Red Cross, served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church, was active in Chapter BE, PEO Sisterhood, and was an officer of the Oregon Retired Educator's Association.
Survivors include three sons, Mark Swisher, Ashland, Paul Swisher, Medford, and Stephen Swisher, Kent, Wash.; a daughter, Lynn Swisher Gundmundsson, Reykjavik, Iceland; and three grandchildren.

Thomas E. Craddick
Thomas E. Craddick, 77, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 28, 1998) in a local foster care home. A memorial service will be held later.
He was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Smackover, Ark.
On Oct. 10, 1952, in Reno, Nev., he married Shirley Staten, who died in 1991.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Craddick worked in the oil fields and for Alameda Mine Co. in Arkansas. After moving to the Rogue Valley in 1947, he was a powderman for Skeeters & Skeeters and a foreman for Rogue River Orchards.
Mr. Craddick was a Southern Baptist and enjoyed reading Western novels while his wife fished, and playing cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Pixie Nitowski, Eagle Point; a son, John, Ashland; a brother, Elbert, Mountain View, Calif.; two sisters, Hazel Riggins, Brewster, Wash., and Sally Farley, Smackover; and two grandchildren. A sister preceded him in death.

Dennis Jerry Robertson
The funeral for Dennis Jerry Robertson, 53, of Ashland, who died Thursday (Oct. 29, 1998) at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ashland Christian Center.
Officiating will be Pastor Ron Timen of the Ashland Christian Center. Private family interment will follow at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Robertson was born July 10, 1945, in Stillwater, Okla., the son of Dennis and Alice Robertson. Raised in California, he attended Santa Rosa Junior College and Humboldt State University.
An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he earned both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart before being discharged as a sergeant.
On Feb. 1, 1969, in Garberville, Calif., he married Karen Pedersen, who survives.
Mr. Robertson began working for Angelos Pizza in Eureka, Calif., then moved to Ashland in 1972 to start Angelos Pizza on Siskiyou Boulevard. In 1987, he began managing the Good Times Family restaurant, which he purchased in 1990. He sold the restaurant in 1997 because of his poor health.
Mr. Robertson enjoyed outdoor activities and sports, particularly golf. He supported Ashland High School activities, and enjoyed woodworking and animals.
He was an active member of the Ashland Christian Center.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son Jonathan Nels Robertson, Medford; daughter Kristen Denise Tuers, Central Point; brother James Robertson, Salem; sisters Janice Luce of Chula Vista, Calif., and Janie Swinton, Roseburg; and his mother, Alice Robertson, Salem.
His father preceded him in death.
