Walter Eugene Phippen
The memorial service for Walter Eugene Phippen will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Phippen, 75, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Nov. 3, 1998) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus.

He was born March 17, 1923, in Hutchinson, Kan.
On July 30, 1982, in Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii, he married Joan Lacey, who survives.
Mr. Phippen lived most of his life in Fremont, Calif., and moved to Grants Pass 17 years ago from Vallejo, Calif.
He was a carpenter in California until his retirement. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Local 713, United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Phippen enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include numerous nieces and nephews.

David C. Roberts
The graveside service for David C. Roberts will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Roberts, 75, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (Oct. 31, 1998) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or a tree may be planted in his memory.
He was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Cambridge, Idaho.
Mr. Roberts lived in Medford for 40 years and later in Grants Pass for 19 years.
He enjoyed nature and creatures of the wild. In his younger years he was an avid horseman. He also enjoyed singing and playing guitar.
Survivors include a son, Dennis, Grants Pass; two daughters, Charlotte Cook, Grants Pass, and Dena Combs, Butte Falls; two sisters, Violet Overstreet, Bandon, and Ellen Rowan, Kooskia, Idaho; a brother, Floyd, Lapwai, Idaho; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A son, Calvin Floyd, preceded him in death.

Mary Louise Myhre
Mary Louise Myhre, 75, of Phoenix, died Tuesday (Nov. 3, 1998) at her home. A private service was held.

She was born July 23, 1923, in Yreka, Calif., a daughter of George and Edna Brussel Ruff.
On Dec. 26, 1968, in Arcata, Calif., she married Gary Myhre, who survives. They moved to Phoenix this year.
Mrs. Myhre was a member of the Arcata Moose Lodge Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge in Coos Bay.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, John Howerton Miller, Medford, George Howerton, Redding, Calif., and Donald Howerton, Quartz Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Louise Perkins, Galt, Calif.; a brother, Fred Ruff, Fort Jones, Calif.; a sister, Eleanor Planinac, La Palmo, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Freda M. Carlson
Freda Manila Carlson, 100, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Oct. 23, 1998, in Vancouver, Wash., where she was living. A private service was held.

She was born Aug. 27, 1898, in Grants Pass, a daughter of William and Tennessee "Tenny" Bristow Stacy. She spent many of her early years in Sams Valley.
During World War I, she served in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps.
Mrs. Carlson was a legal secretary for many years in Salem and Klamath Falls. After retiring, she moved to Medford to be near her daughter, Patricia Miller, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Carlson enjoyed crocheting afghans for relatives and friends and donated many to Sacred Heart Church and the Hillcrest Cancer Society for their fund-raising events.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Julie Cote and Dan Miller, both Medford; Darrell Miller, Vancouver, Wash., and Craig Miller, Kennewick, Wash.; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Elsie D. Robathan
The memorial service for Elsie D. Robathan will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Medford. Bishop John Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot in Olney Cemetery, Pendleton.
Mrs. Robathan, 103, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 29, 1998) at her home at Rogue Valley Manor.

She was born Elsie Wood on July 23, 1895, in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, B.C.
Upon entering the University of British Columbia, she was honored with the governor general's medal for the highest matriculation grades in British Columbia. After graduating with honors with a teaching degree, she taught grades eight to 12 in a one-room schoolhouse at Departure Bay, B.C.
In 1925, in Nanaimo, she married the Rev. Eric O. Robathan. They served parishes and missions on Vancouver Island at Tofino, Cumberland, Chemainus and Victoria. After assisting at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria and the Columbia Coast Mission, they moved to Pendleton, where the Rev. Robathan was archdeacon of the Missionary Diocese of Eastern Oregon.
They served the last 14 years of active ministry at Church of the Redeemer in Pendleton. Upon retirement, they moved to Medford in 1962. The Rev. Robathan died in 1971.
Survivors include a son, Dr. David W. Robathan, Eugene; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Eric F. Robathan; and a half brother.

Henry S. Algeier
Henry S. Algeier, 35, formerly of White City, died Oct. 27, 1998, in Tempe, Ariz., where he was living. A gathering of friends and relatives was held Oct. 30.
He was born April 18, 1963, in Patterson, N.J., and moved to the Rogue Valley as a child.
Mr. Algeier attended Eagle Point schools. He installed heating and air conditioning systems for Sun Mechanical in Phoenix, Ariz.
Mr. Algeier enjoyed the outdoors.
Survivors include his fiancee, Penny Speck, White City; his mother, Laurie Algeier, Shady Cove; a brother, Russell, San Francisco; and two sisters, Sherri Ashley, Los Angeles, and Sandra Colage, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Delbert `Tiny' E. Jones
The memorial service for Delbert "Tiny" E. Jones will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ashland Elks Lodge. Private inurnment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park.
Mr. Jones, 79, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Nov. 3, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Edmonds, Wash. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1922, living near Talent until moving to Ashland in 1935.
Mr. Jones was a 1938 graduate of Ashland High School, where he participated in all sports. He attended Southern Oregon Normal School until joining the Army with Battery B, 249th Coast Artillery during World War II. He served as a supply sergeant in the European Theater and was awarded the Soldier's Medal for bravery.
After returning to Ashland, he worked for three years at J.P. Dodge Furniture Store, then was a partner with Ed Singmaster in Singmaster & Jones Insurance Agency for 11 years. Mr. Jones was sales and office manager for California Pacific Utility Co., also known as C.P. National, until retiring in 1982.
On Nov. 4, 1942, he married Geraldine Wenner, who survives.
Mr. Jones served on the budget committees for the Ashland City Council and Ashland School District, and was treasurer of Ashland Community Hospital Auxiliary. He played on several baseball teams, including Hilt, Ashland Lithians and the Cheny Studs, and was Southern Oregon Conference official in football, basketball and baseball for more than 25 years.
He was active in the Ashland Elks Lodge, serving as exalted ruler and district deputy grand exalted ruler, was president of the Oregon State Elks Association in 1962, and was named Elk of the Year for 1985-86.
Mr. Jones also enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Timothy, Talent, Dennis, Corvallis, and Roger, Ontario; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Robert E., died in 1995.

Frank L. Wellman
The funeral for Frank L. Wellman will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Officers and members of the Ashland Elks Lodge No. 944 will officiate. Interment will follow in Scenic Hills Memorial Park.
Mr. Wellman, 90, of Ashland, died Monday (Nov. 2, 1998) at Ashland Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 19, 1908, in Cleveland, Ohio.
At an early age he moved to Alaska, where he worked on fishing ships in Cordova, did copper mining in Kennicott, gold mining in Forty Mile and gold dredging in Fairbanks. During winters he was a carpenter and carried mail by dog sled.
Mr. Wellman worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Fairbanks for 20 years. He moved to Ashland upon his retirement in 1974.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Ladd Field.
In Fairbanks, he was a member of the Carpenters Union, the Postal Union, the Elks Lodge and Alaska Pioneers Igloo. He was active in the Ashland Elks Lodge, was an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred L. Wellman, Ashland; three daughters, Nancy DeLeon and Gloria Faddis, both Fairbanks, and Michelle, Seattle; a son, David, Fairbanks; a sister, Margaret Stringer, Eureka, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects at 2 p.m. Friday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home.
