Lyle A. Stewart
Lyle A. Stewart, 75, formerly of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 16, 1998) in Portland. His home was in Lincoln City. No service is planned.

He was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Englewood, Colo.
Raised in Ventura, Calif., he graduated from Ventura High School and then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
On April 7, 1950, in Phoenix, Ariz., he married Katherine "Katie" Reed, who survives.
Mr. Stewart's career in city planning spanned more than 40 years. He began as a consultant with Si Eisner & Associates in Pasadena, Calif. In 1965, he moved to Medford where he was a partner in Edson, Patterson, Langford and Stewart. He moved to Lincoln City in 1992 and established an office there.
Mr. Stewart was the principal planner responsible for 40 urban renewal projects in Oregon and helped develop legislation designed to improve and preserve the redevelopment process.
On Nov. 6, 1998, the Association of Oregon Redevelopment Agencies established an award designated as the Lyle A. Stewart Award of Merit.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Lynnel Valia Stewart-Smith, Medford; and a brother, Floyd L., Bellingham, Wash.

Cecil Nelda Juniper
CecilNelda Juniper, 89, of Medford, died Saturday (Nov. 14, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service is planned.
She was born Cecil Coss on Dec. 19, 1908, in Minnesota. She lived in Montana a short time before moving to Medford, where she lived most of her life.
On Sept. 12, 1932, in Los Angeles, she married Lawrence Juniper, who survives. Mrs. Juniper returned to the Rogue Valley in 1933 from Los Angeles.
She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority at the University of Oregon, where she graduated with a degree in music.
Mrs. Juniper taught voice and piano for many years in Medford Klamath Falls.
She was a member of the University of Oregon Women's Alumni.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Ronald Lee Juniper, Huntington Beach, Calif.; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Coss; and a sister, Vivian Coss Bateman.

Helen L. Wilson
The memorial service for Helen L. Wilson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Phoenix First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John Braund will officiate.
Mrs. Wilson, 66, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born May 29, 1932, in Garvin, Okla.
In August 1950, she married Gordon Wilson, who survives.
Mrs. Wilson moved to Oregon in 1956.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and pets, especially her dogs.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Judy Miller, Eagle Point, and Deborah Reynolds, Medford; three sons, Dan, Talent, Carl, Medford, and Terry, McCall, Idaho; her mother, Jocil Pruett, Millerton, Okla.; a sister, Beulah May Luper, Millerton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Carl Roberts, preceded her in death.

Eugene Henry Baalman
The memorial service for Eugene Henry Baalman will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Ashland Bible Church. Pastor Nathan Shinn will officiate. Inurnment will be held later in the Fort Bidwell, Calif., Cemetery.
Mr. Baalman, 80, of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 16, 1998) at his home.

He was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Grinnell, Kan.
On June 1, 1941, in Reno, Nev., he married Katherine "Kitty" Barry, who survives.
Mr. Baalman lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.
He was a forklift driver for Boise Cascade, formerly Elk Lumber in Medford for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
He returned to the Rogue Valley in May 1997 from Fort Bidwell, Calif.
Mr. Baalman was a member of Fort Bidwell's People's Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Cedarville, Calif. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry and helping his neighbors.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Nicholas A. "Tony," Ashland; a daughter, Judith J. Frelich, Murfreesboro, N.C.; six sisters, Isabelle Barry, Glendale, Mathilda Flipse, Salem, and Agnes Davis, Betty Ann Vance, Bernadette Hamman and Arvella Schiner, all in Kansas; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Leonard Baalman.

Denise Davilla
The memorial service for Denise Davilla will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Siskiyou Chapel, Medford. Pastor Kevin Gowland of the Medford First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Mrs. Davilla, 54, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at her home in Pacifica, Calif.

She was born Denise Stevens on April 2, 1944, in Roseburg.
The family was living in Medford when she graduated from Jacksonville High School.
In 1960, in Medford, she married Roland R. Armstrong. They were divorced in 1963.
She moved to San Francisco in 1964, where she began a 30-year career with the Water Department. After moving to Pacifica in 1989, she became the department's first female field inspector and most recently was a senior service inspector.
In 1972, in Reno, Nev., she married Frank Davilla. They were divorced in 1979.
Mrs. Davilla enjoyed bonsai gardening, herb and flower gardening, and collecting antiques.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Corcoran, Ferndale, Wash.; a brother, Wilber L. Stevens Jr., Medford; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber and Frances Stevens.

F. Clarke Casteel
The memorial service for the Rev. F. Clarke Casteel will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Trinity Baptist Church, White City. Pastor Chuck Tiffee will officiate. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery.
Rev. Casteel, 77, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Nov. 16, 1998) at his home.

He was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Galena, Mo.
The Rev. Casteel was Sunday school superintendent at Trinity Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday school and Bible classes.
He pastored at several churches throughout California. Before retiring because of poor health, he organized and taught at a four-year Bible institute in the San Francisco Bay area.
A firm believer in Bible study, he attended Bible college during his ministry spanning more than 43 years, receiving a doctorate of theology at age 65.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Casteel; three sons, Michael Montgomery, Eagle Point, Scott Casteel, Cottonwood, Calif., and Rick Montgomery, Elk Grove, Calif.; six daughters, Patricia Slatton, San Jose, Calif., Karen Clendenen, San Diego, Calif., Cathryn Browning, Felton, Calif., Carolyn Reed and Donna Murch, both Olympia, Wash., and Sharon Calderon, Soquel, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Matilda Mae Hall
Matilda Mae Hall, 95, of Portland, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 1998) at Emanuel Hospital in Portland. No service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Rose City Cemetery.

She was born Matilda Mae Knips on Jan. 17, 1903, in Medford, a daughter of William and Harriet Maben Knips. She was raised in Medford.
After receiving a teaching degree, she taught school for numerous years in the Medford area.
On Sept. 15, 1937, in Salem, she married Verne Hall, who preceded her in death. They lived in the North Portland area for many years.
Survivors include a son, Donald, Beaverton; a sister, Emmylou Ward, Medford; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Catherine Mae Baxter
Catherine Mae Baxter, 77, of Medford, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 1998) at her home. A private memorial service will be held later.

She was born Catherine Foreman on April 9, 1921, in Downing, Wis.
On Feb. 22, 1941, in Concord, Calif., she married Edward W. Baxter, who died in 1995. They moved to the Rogue Valley 16 years ago from Lawai, Kauai, Hawaii.
Mrs. Baxter taught piano and organ and was a Baldwin piano dealer.
She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Kuzma, Jacksonville; a son, James E., Weaverville, Calif.; and four grandchildren. A son, Edward A., died in 1993.
