Janice Ellen Jording
The memorial service for Janice Ellen Jording will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Applegate Christian Fellowship. Pastor Rick Cohen will officiate.
Mrs. Jording, 51, of Medford, died Wednesday (Nov. 18, 1998) at her home after a long bout with cancer.
She was born Janice Bogart on Nov. 28, 1946, in Portland, Maine, and moved to Medford with her family in 1958.
She graduated from Medford High School in 1964 and from Southern Oregon College in 1967. Mrs. Jording earned a master's degree in computer education in 1994 from Lesley College of Boston.
On May 9, 1975, in Medford, she married Clay Jording, who survives.
Mrs. Jording worked for Rogue Community College in the Adult Education Program in Medford for 10 years. While at RCC, she helped many students obtain General Equivalency Diplomas and wrote and published a textbook, "Spelling Strategies."
For the past six years, she taught Spanish and computers at Cascade Christian High School.
Mrs. Jording was active in the Applegate Christian Fellowship. She sang in solo and choral performances for many functions and enjoyed reading, quilting, writing, and compiling curricula for home scholars.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Amy Jording, Medford, and Kelli Pearson, Village dos Mares, Brazil; a sister, Sue Wilson, Phoenix; and a brother, Peter Bogart, in Alaska. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Effie Bogart.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.
Rita Nell Francis
Rita Nell Francis, 70, of Shady Cove, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford. No service is planned.
She was born Rita Nell Collard on Feb. 1, 1928, in Plainview, Texas.
In Sacramento, Calif., she married David Patton Mundell, who died in 1971.
Ms. Francis was a cook for several years at the Flamingo Hilton in Reno, Nev., before retiring in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Dawn Arnett, Shady Cove; a sister, Dorothy Parr, Covington, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

Fred Shepard
Fred Shepard, 76, formerly of Ashland and Phoenix, died Oct. 29, 1998, in Pleasant Hill, Tenn., where he was living. A memorial service was held Nov. 18 in Pleasant Hill.
He was born March 8, 1922, in Gaziantep, Turkey. His father was a surgeon in Turkey, carrying on the work of his father, who headed a hospital there.
Mr. Shepard spent his childhood in Istanbul, Turkey, then attended high school in the United States. He received a bachelor of arts degree in zoology from Yale University in 1942.
During World War II, he served with the 7th Army Headquarters as aide-de-camp to Gen. White in the North African and European theaters. He then returned to Yale, earning a master's degree in zoology and education.
On June 15, 1948, in Bradford, Mass., he married Mary Alice Shepard, who survives.
From 1948 to 1954, Mr. Shepard was a high school teacher and administrator in Phoenix. During the summers of 1952 and 1953, he was a clerk-dispatcher for the U.S. Forest Service in Ashland.
While members of the Ashland United Church of Christ, the Shepards decided on their careers as missionaries. From 1954 to 1984, they served with the Congregational Church boards, later the United Church of Christ's Board for World Ministries in the Middle East.
Among his various assignments, Fred was a teacher, then dean, of students and dean of the college at Aleppo College, Syria, until 1964; held several positions in Istanbul and Izmir in the 1960s and 1970s; and other assignments for the UCBWM in Turkey from 1976 to 1982.
Mr. Shepard received a doctorate in evolutionary biology from Harvard University in 1968.
His last overseas assignment was as co-director of Ayia Napa Conference Center on Cyprus.
The Shepards moved to Ashland in 1984, where they were active in the United Chruch of Christ, First Congregational.
An amateur photographer, Mr. Shepard published an article on his theory of bioaesthetics in a Turkish periodical. He also was an adjunct professor of biology at Southern Oregon State College and taught Elderhostel and continuing education classes.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four children, and seven grandchildren.

Robert Dante Spano
Robert Dante Spano, 69, of White City, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 1998) at his home. A private service was held. Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Santa Barbara, Calif.
He was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Chicago, Ill.
On Nov. 14, 1959, in Las Vegas, Nev., he married Marilyn Barr, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley eight years ago from Santa Barbara.
Mr. Spano was self-employed for 35 years in carpet sales and installation in Santa Barbara. He retired in 1988.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 and in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1958.
Mr. Spano was a member of the Elks Lodge and Santa Barbara Trail Riders. He loved horses and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Nancy Denison, Lake Tahoe, Nev.; a son, John, Salinas, Calif.; a sister, Mary Bush, Santa Clara, Calif.; and four grandchildren. A sister, Josephine Troup preceded him in death.

Faye McCaslin
Cordelia "Faye" McCaslin, 85, of Talent, died Monday (Nov. 16, 1998) at her home. A private service is planned. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
She was born Cordelia Matney on Sept. 2, 1913, in Dallas, Ore.
On Oct. 17, 1931, in Albany, she married Cliff McCaslin, who survives.
They moved to the Rogue Valley 52 years ago from the Willamette Valley.
Mrs. McCaslin enjoyed reading and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Pat Grubbs, Medford; two sisters, Mary Richey, Phoenix, and Alice Rooker, Ashland; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.

William Rolland Brewer
William Rolland Brewer, 77, of Medford, died Saturday (Nov. 14, 1998) at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Roseburg. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

He was born July 16, 1921, in Jungington, Ark.
On Aug. 13, 1942, in Hermosa Beach, Calif., he married Palma Mae McCown, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 45 years ago from Oakland, Calif.
Mr. Brewer was a heavy equipment operator in the logging industry.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Brewer was a member of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed inventing things.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a granddaughter, Bethany Brewer, Fort Bragg, Calif. A son, David Allen, died Oct. 18, 1998.

Lela Maude Davis
The graveside service for Lela Maude Davis will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Jacksonville Cemetery. Minister Dave Humphreys of the Phoenix Church of Christ will officiate.
Mrs. Davis, 89, of Talent, died Monday (Nov. 16, 1998) at the Medford Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.

She was born Lela Maude Thompson on March 8, 1909, in Oklahoma.
On April 19, 1927, in The Dalles, she married John L. Davis, who died in 1985.
Mrs. Davis moved to the Rogue Valley in 1935.
She enjoyed her family.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan Ragsdale, Trail, Fern Dixon, Phoenix, and Ruth Ponder, Talent; two sons, James "Jim" Davis, Medford, and Roger Davis, Tacoma, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A sister, Tina Davis, preceded her in death.

Beth Ellen Rideout
A memorial service for Beth Ellen Rideout will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Roxy Ann Grange, 1850 Spring St., Medford. The Rev. Linda Wilson-Hunt of the Church of Religious Science will officiate.
A memorial service was held Nov. 19 in the Phoenix First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Rideout, 83, of Phoenix, died Nov. 9, 1998, at Providence Medford Medical Center.
