Mary `Jean' Pope
Mary "Jean" Pope, 70, of Medford, died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

She was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Ashland. A third-generation Ashlander, she lived as a girl in a homestead cabin on Dead Indian Memorial Road.
Mrs. Pope graduated from Ashland High School in 1946 and received a master's degree from then-Southern Oregon College.
On Dec. 26, 1949, in Ashland, she married Roland "Jack" E. Pope, who died Feb. 2, 1998.
Mrs. Pope taught English, reading and art at Crater High School. She was curriculum director for many years with the Jackson County Education Service District.
A few years ago, Mrs. Pope and her sister Anita made medical history when she became the oldest bone marrow recipient and her sister the oldest donor.
Mrs. Pope enjoyed art, writing, genealogy, music and traveling with her husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Pope, Medford; a son, Mike, Bakersfield, Calif.; her mother, Mary Lane, Medford; two sisters, Anita Coy, Central Point, and Sharon Olson, Medford; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father, Ross Harden; and a sister, Shirley Barraclough.

Hazel Bernice Williams
Hazel Bernice Williams, 84, of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at her home. A private service will be held later. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

She was born Hazel Spear on Dec. 7, 1913, in Lone Pine, Calif.
She graduated from Lone Pine High School in 1932 and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1934 from La Mesa, Calif.
On July 25, 1935, in Medford, she married LeRoy V. Williams, who died in 1984.
Mrs. Williams was a member of the Medford First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir since 1955.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond L., Medford, David L., Portland, and William V., Cathedral City, Calif.; a daughter, Joyce J. Williams, Sisters; a brother, Forrest Spear, Belfair, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Adams, La Mesa; 10 grandchildren; an eight great-grandchildren. A brother, Wallace Spear, preceded her in death.

Hazel Eleanor Wilson
The graveside service for Hazel Eleanor Wilson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. Ted Broadway of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Mrs. Wilson, 91, formerly of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) in Renton, Wash., where she was living.
She was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Savannah, Ga.
Mrs. Wilson lived in Medford from 1941 until moving to Washington in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Donavan, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilson; and a daughter, Delores Jones.

Lance Jon Thompson
The funeral for Pvt. Lance Jon Thompson will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Klamath Memorial Park, Klamath Falls. Interment will follow in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Pvt. Thompson, 22, formerly of Medford, died Nov. 19, 1998, in Korea.

B.D. `Bud' Mitchell
The funeral for B.D. "Bud" Mitchell will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church, 449 S. Ivy St.
Mr. Mitchell, 82, of Medford, died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 1998) after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 23, 1916 in Scholls. He graduated from Nestucca Union High School and attended the University of Oregon.
In 1934, he and his brother, Jim, started Mitchell Bros. Truck Lines in Portland, one of the largest interstate heavy haulers in the country.
In 1939, he married Helen Schons of Leavenworth, Wash., who survives. They moved to Medford in 1956 from Portland.
He later started Carolina Pacific Plywood, which became the third-largest manufacturer of plywood in the United States. He also was co-founder of Crater National Bank.
He was past president and co-founder of the Medford Linebackers and a longtime supporter of sports at Medford High School, at the U of O and at Oregon State University. He was a sponsor of Spiegelberg and Autzen stadium construction. He was also a member of the Rogue Valley and Thunderbird country clubs, the University Club, the Multnomah Club, the Committee of 25 and the Douglas Fir Plywood Association.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Brent, Medford, and Gibb, Eugene; and two daughters, Brenda Keeler, Quincy, Wash., and Shelley Jennier, Rancho Mirage, Calif.

James W. Lick Shull
The memorial service for James W. Lick Shull will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church. Pastor Philip D. King will officiate. Inurnment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Shull, 40, of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) at his home.

He was born Feb. 5, 1958, in Medford.
On Aug. 8, 1988, in Gold Hill, he married Lori Burdick, who survives.
Mr. Shull was a general laborer, and last worked for Bear Creek Corp.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed the outdoors.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, James, Medford; a brother, John Shull, Medford; two sisters, Julie Shull, Hilo, Hawaii, and Kristin Barlowe, Nashville, Tenn.; his mother and stepfather, William and Linda Caldwell, Eagle Point; and his father and stepmother, James and Charlotte Lick, Chino, Calif.

Shirley E. Hall
The memorial service for Shirley E. Hall will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Pastor Eleanor Robinson of the Ashland First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Hall, 68, of Ashland, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) at Oak Crest Foster Home.
She was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Ashland, a daughter of Charles and Erla Edwards.
On Oct. 3, 1948, in Ashland, she married Montegene "Monte" Hall, who survives.
Mrs. Hall earned a teaching degree from Southern Oregon State College in 1971. She taught third and fourth grades at Little Butte Elementary School in Eagle Point.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Soroptimists Club, president of Beta Sigma Phi, and active in the Horseless Carriage Club of America and Rogue Valley Old Timer Car Club. She organized the Wranglettes horse drill team from 1965 to 1968.
Mrs. Hall also enjoyed playing pinochle with the Tuesday Ladies, and loved animals including her dog, Fritz.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Kathleen Losekoot, Yreka, Calif.; four grandchildren, including Troy Hall, Portland, whom she raised; and four great-grandchildren. A daughter, Katherine Hall died in 1980.
