Hester J. Bishop

Hester Jeanette Bishop, 92, of Eugene, formerly of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 7, 1998) in Eugene. A private inurnment service will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be may to Eugene Good Samaritan Center, 3500 Hilyard, Eugene, OR 97405.

She was born Hester Jeanette Wakefield on Oct. 2, 1906, in Blue Earth, Minn.

Mrs. Bishop lived most of her life in Medford, graduating from Medford High School in 1924.

On Nov. 19, 1936, in Medford, she married Lee Porter Bishop, who survives. The family moved to Portland in 1945, and then to Eugene in 1949.

Mrs. Bishop was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and the Blanche Markham Guild in Eugene.

She enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Beverly Spidel, Tigard, and Marcia Zervis, Mercer Island, Wash.; a brother, Charles Wakefield, Medford; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: England's Eugene Memorial Chapel.

Olivia Larson Graves

Olivia Ann Larson Graves, 60, formerly of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 9, 1998) from multiple sclerosis at Manor Care Health Center in Gig Harbor, Wash. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Oregon Chapter, 1650 N.W. Front Ave., Suite 190, Portland, OR 97209.

She was born March 19, 1938, in Medford, a daughter of Roscoe and Aileen Larson, and lived in Medford until 1968.

She was a 1956 graduate of Medford High School.

She enjoyed Mount Rainier, nature, and her adopted family at Manor Care Health Center.

Survivors include two sons, Arnold Thompson, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ron Thompson, Gig Harbor; two daughters, Michelle Thompson Bressler, Tacoma, Wash., and Elizabeth Thompson Goebeler, Phoenix, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Garrett Larson; and a sister, Elizabeth Flynn, who also died of multiple sclerosis.

Arrangements: Neptune of Washington Funeral Home, Tacoma.

Craig Charlton

Craig Charlton, 47, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday (Dec. 9, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private memorial service was held.

He was born on Oct. 31, 1951, in Oakland, Calif. He moved to the Rogue Valley 15 years ago from Phoenix, Ariz.

Mr. Charlton was a self-employed mechanic.

He enjoyed classic motorcycles, racing cars, and his video collection.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Rae Green, Medford, and Jessica Angelique Moreland, Fort Riley, Kan.; two sons, Shaunno, Jacksonville, and Jason, Mount Shastina, Calif.; his mother, Alice Charlton, Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Ron, Oakland, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Trafford Charlton.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Edna Irene Adams

The funeral service for Edna Irene Adams will be at noon today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Medford Fourth Ward Chapel, 648 South Ivy St., Medford. John Vile of the Medford Fourth Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate.

Mrs. Adams, 81, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 9, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Edna Irene Wyers on Nov. 5, 1917, in McCurtain, Okla.

On Nov. 20, 1937, in Steamboat Springs, Colo., she married Charles R. Adams, who preceded her in death. She lived in Idaho, Arizona and Eastern Oregon prior to her move to the Rogue Valley in 1953.

Mrs. Adams was a homemaker.

She enjoyed traveling, singing and sewing, and was very active in her church.

Survivors include a son, Ray, Medford; four daughters, Shirley Richardson, St. Louis, Mo., Carolyn McMurry, Sheridan, Ark., Myrna Pleasant, Springdale, Ark., and Beverly Thigpin, Camano City, Wash.; two brothers, Norman Wyers, Keota, Okla., and Paul Wyers, Diamond City, Ark.; a sister, Catherine Hammond, Barney, Texas; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Adams.

Friends may pay their respects at 11 a.m. today at the Medford Fourth Ward Chapel.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Elizabeth `Betty' Ragsdale

The memorial service for Elizabeth A. "Betty" Ragsdale will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18 in the First Congregational Church in Portland. Inurnment will be in the Portland Memorial Mausoleum.

Mrs. Ragsdale, 81, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 8, 1998) at a local foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

She was born Elizabeth A. Crow on Nov. 17, 1917, in White Salmon, Wash.

On May 29, 1939, she married Lee Ragsdale, who survives. They lived in White Salmon, Camas, Mount Angel, Medford and Portland.

Mrs. Ragsdale was the secretary for Lincoln and Hoover schools in Medford.

After moving to Portland in 1966, she was secretary for the Junior League of Portland until her retirement in 1980.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Dana Kramer, Medford; a son, Richard Ragsdale, Princeton, N.J.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Larson and Doris Triplett.

John Morrison

The memorial service for John Wayne Morrison will be held at a time and place yet to be determined. Mr. Morrison, 57, died Tuesday (Dec. 8, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

He was born Jan. 18, 1941, in Russell County, Va. On Dec. 30, 1967, he married Sandra Lee Hite, who survives.

Mr. Morrison served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1966. He was a telephone engineer with Pacific Bell until 1993 and had been a telephone engineer contractor since 1997.

Mr. Morrison moved to the Rogue Valley in 1997. Before that he lived in Saint George, Utah, and in Ukiah, Calif., for many years.

Mr. Morrison enjoyed high-powered rifle shooting and belonged to several gun clubs. He also enjoyed car raceing, leather working and golf.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Erik Wayne Morrison, of Medford; his parents, Carl Morrison and Bessie Belle Jarvis, of Claremore, Okla.; and one brother, Albert Eugene Morrison, of Claremore, Okla.

Arrangements: Neptune Society of Southern Oregon, Medford.

Ken Shale

The funeral for Ken Shale, of Eagle Point, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Medford. The Rev. David Close of St. Mark's will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Shale, 67, died Friday (Dec. 11, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Coventry, England. On June 9, 1956, in Los Angeles, Calif., he married Rita M. Shute, who survives.

Mr. Shute had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1995, moving from Hanworth, England.

He loved English history and was an avid gardener.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church Outreach, Medford, or a charity of choice.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his father, Leonard Shale; four daughters, Carol Jordan, of Concord, Calif., Susan Dorman, of Eagle Point, Christine Cox, of Fremont, Calif., and Linda Shale, also of Fremont, Calif.; a brother, Michael, of Redwood, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Shale.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services.

Mollie Faust

The funeral service for Mollie Faust will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hillcrest Chapel. Pastor Ervin Geizler will officiate.

Mrs. Faust, 90, of Central Point, died Thursday (Dec. 10, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Mollie Kolb on May 16, 1908 in Brookfield, Mich.

On Jan. 25, 1927, in Lincoln, Neb., she married Henry Faust, who died in 1986.

Mrs. Faust was a homemaker. She enjoyed watching television, bird watching, and attending county fairs.

Survivors include a daughter, Darline Turner, Central Point; two sons, Wesley, Central Point, and Gary, Lincoln, Neb.; three brothers, August Kolb, Elwood, Neb., William Kolb, Overton, Neb., and Jack Kolb, Twin Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A son, Elmer, preceded her in death.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care.
