Shirley Rae Parton
Shirley Rae Parton, 68, of Eagle Point and formerly of Ashland, died Monday, September 10, 2001 at her residence. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2001 at Trail Christian Fellowship in Shady Cove. Pastor Don Holmes of Trail Christian Fellowship will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Parton was born Shirley Rae Stephenson on December 18, 1932 in Medford, Ore., and married James D. Parton, who survives, on September 16, 1974 in Reno, Nevada. She lived in the Rogue Valley all of her life, living in Ashland from the third grade through tenth grade.
Shirley Rae Parton worked for Human Resources as an assistant in the Children's Services Division for over 20 years. She enjoyed reading and gardening, and was a member of Trail Christian Fellowship in Shady Cove.
Survivors include her husband, James D. Parton of Eagle Point; eight sons, Jim Taylor and Derrick Parton of Medford, Ore., Jeff Taylor of Butte Falls, Ore., Eric Parton of Eagle Point, Ore., Floyd Taylor of Sheridan, Ore., Mike Parton of Lacey, Wash., Ed Cates of Camas Valley, Ore., and Dennis Parton of Sun Valley, Nevada; three daughters, Tammy Patterson and Andrea Templer of Medford, Ore., and Lori Taylor of Tigard, Ore.; her mother, Letha F. Stephenson of Novata, Calif.; a sister, Arline Basey of Novata, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest K. Stephenson.
Arrangements are by Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford.
Avis McGee Anderson
Funeral services for former Ashland resident Avis McGee Anderson are planned for 6 p.m. on Saturday at Mt. View Cemetery, 440 Normal Ave., Ashland.
Anderson, 88, died on Sunday in Corvallis.
She was born in Redding, Calif. to Allen and Lottie McGee. She was raised primarily in Ashland, although during her elementary school years, her family homesteaded in Kamloops, B.C.
The family later returned to Ashland, where Anderson graduated from Ashland High School and subsequently received her teaching credentials at Southern Oregon College of Education. She also attended Oregon State College.
Anderson taught in several small Oregon towns, including Eddyville and Tualatin.
She married Colver F. Anderson in 1940 in Ashland and they had three sons.
Due to her husband's geology career, the family moved often and lived, at various times, in most of the western states. In 1964, the family returned to Ashland.
Mr. Anderson passed away in 1998 and she moved to Corvallis with her son and his family, where she spent the rest of her life.
An avid gardener, painter and reader, Anderson also enjoyed sewing and camping and regularly attended Methodist church services.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Anderson of Corvallis, Ore., Allen Anderson of Centralia, Wash and Edward Anderson of Tenino, Wash; four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren
Memorial contributions can be made to the Ashland Methodist Church building fund.
John Tillman Cullom
John Tillman Cullom, 85, of Ashland died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001 at his home. A private memorial service will be held at his home.
He was born December 13, 1915 in Collinsville, Ill., to John T. Cullom, Sr. and Barbara (Sapp) Cullom. On October 17, 1941 in Peoria, Ill., he married Frances Wright, who survives.
Mr. Cullum attended high school at Mt. Olive, Ill., and graduated from the Rolla School of Mines in Rolla, Mo. He worked as a Metallurgic Engineer in the copper smelting business for most of his life.
He belonged to the AIME Association and enjoyed woodworking. He was also in the Signal Corp.
Survivors include his wife Frances; a daughter Constance Sikarskie of Talent; grandson Michael Sikarskie of Ashland; and three sisters, Maudethel Cullom of Mt. Olive, Ill., Barbara Cullom of San Antonio, Texas, and Eleanore Dollenger of West Minister, Md.
Arrangements were carried out by the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Ashland.
Robert Lawrence Rohr
Robert Lawrence Rohr, 76, of Medford died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 as the result of a motor vehicle accident at South Valley View Road and northbound Interstate 5 at Exit 19 in Ashland.
Arrangements are in care of Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Ashland.
Betty Lew Sharp
Betty Lew Sharp, 79, of Ashland died Thursday, October 4, 2001 at her home. Private, family services were held at her home Saturday, October 6, 2001. Pastor Scott Dalgarno of the Ashland Presbyterian Church officiated.
Mrs. Sharp was born September 13, 1922 in Seargent Bluff, Iowa, to Lew and Fanny Carter. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1944 as a music major and played violin in several symphonies. She married Robert Sharp in 1945 and taught elementary school music for several years in Ann Arbor, Mich., prior to becoming a mother. As a result of her husband's occupation, she lived many years in National Parks including Sequoia, Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Great Smoky Mountain.
During her 26 years in Ashland, Mrs. Sharp did volunteer work at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Ashland Community Hospital, and the Pacific Northwest Museum. She was a Reading Assistant at Lincoln Elementary School for ten years. A regular attendee of the Ashland Summer Band concerts, she enjoyed music all her life. She also enjoyed knitting and playing bridge.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bob; her four sons, Jeff and Dick Sharp of Portland, Tod Sharp of Homer, Alaska, and Ric Sharp of Ashland; two sisters, Ruth Peterson of Littleton, Colo., and Mary Boege of Bettendorf, Iowa; a brother, Bill Carter of Charlotte, N.C.; and six grandchildren, Eric, Christine, Matt, Andy, Taylor, and Devin. Mrs. Sharp was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Charles.

Shirley I. Berninghausen
Shirley Idelle Berninghausen, 78, of Ashland died October 17, 2001 at her home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. November 10, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland.
Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's name to the World War II Women's Memorial, Ashland Senior High School, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Born Shirley Idelle Bemis on January 4, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minn., she was the daughter of John Delbert and Ida Victoria (Larson) Bemis. In November of 1944 she married Richard George Berninghausen in Rapid City, S.D., who preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Berninghausen served in the Women's Air Corps. She worked as a secretary for the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland and also worked until retirement for Dr. J.R. Reynolds as a receptionist/bookkeeper.
Shirley was an ardent Grizzly, Trailblazer, Mariner, and Minnesota Viking fan and was enjoying the American League Playoffs at the time of her death. She was a very active member of the Ashland's First Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. She and her husband served for the Tudor Guild for many years. She volunteered with the Ashland Public Schools from 1953 through the 90s, continuing to volunteer long after her own children had graduated. She was very proud to have been designated an honorary Ashland High School alumna.
Survivors include three sons, Bill of Gresham, Ore., Tom of Wilsonville, Ore., and Harold of Ashland; a daughter, Marla Deere of Shoreline, Wash.; a sister, Dorothy Antil of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in the Portland, Ore., and Prescott, Ariz., areas. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
