Howard R. Commons

Howard R. Commons, 77, of Central Point, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born March 14, 1921, in Haxtun, Colo.

On Aug. 24, 1981, in Reno, Nev., he married Anna Pianka, who survives.

Mr. Commons lived in Oregon 60 years and was a Rogue Valley resident for 14 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1945.

Mr. Commons owned and operated HR's Rock Hobbies and Commons Crafts in Central Point.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gary, Grants Pass; three daughters, Susan Commons, St. Louis, Mo., Mari Commons, New York City, and Jeanette Sequsira, The Woodlands, Texas; two sisters, Goldie McKenzie, Grants Pass, and Ester Edwards, Portland; two brothers, Gil Commons and Lew Commons, both in Washington; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Robert Bennett Angell

The memorial service for Robert Bennett Angell will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 434 Oak St., Central Point. George Smyth will officiate.

Mr. Angell, 71, of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born June 27, 1927, in Elgin.

On July 3, 1950, in Reno, Nev., he married Lauretta Gade, who survives.

Mr. Angell was raised in Burns and Los Angeles. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1942.

Mr. Angell worked for the Grange Co-Op in Central Point and Timber Products of Medford. He was a bus driver for 20 years for the Medford and Central Point school districts.

He was an ardent woodworker and enjoyed the creativity of carpentry. He also enjoyed camping.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Charles H. Kline, Central Point, and Robert L. Angell, White City; a daughter, Doris Brown, Central Point; two brothers, Charlie Oliver, John Day, and Norman Oliver, Burns; two sisters, Hazel Berry, Eugene, and Pearl Gladys, Madras; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Eloise Jackson; and two brothers, Willard Joseph Bennett and Frank Marion Bennett.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Ruth `Kay' Badanish

The cryptside service for Ruth "Kay" Badanish will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. Ray Elam of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford, will officiate.

Mrs. Badanish, 72, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Ruth Jaunieta Gasaway on Nov. 26, 1926, in Ohio.

On Nov. 26, 1966, in Las Vegas, she married Andrew Badanish, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Badanish worked in restaurant management in Southern California.

She lived in Merlin from 1980 to 1989, and moved to Medford in 1994 from Marco Island, Fla.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Kuhn, Wheeling, W.V.; and a nephew, Mark Simonetto, Indianapolis.

Friends may pay their respects from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Chapel, Medford.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Dwight B. Worthington

The memorial service for Dwight Beach Worthington will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Herman Bryant will officiate.

Mr. Worthington, 69, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 12, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Okeene, Okla.

On Jan. 17, 1969, in Yreka, Calif., he married Judith Krueger, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Klamath Falls in 1953.

Mr. Worthington was employed by R.B. Brown Trucking until his retirement in 1991.

He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling on TV, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dwight Jr., Oakridge; three daughters, Lorna Sims, White City, and Shawna Worthington and Stacey Carson, both of Medford; a stepdaughter, Kathryn David, Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Cecil, Medford; two sisters, Norma Case and Lillian Mauck, both of Eugene; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Harvey, Alvin and William, and three sisters, Edith Chartier, Willa Snyder and Eva Kee.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Libby I. McCord

The funeral service for Libby I. McCord will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Coos Bay Chapel. Dr. Daniel Myers of the North Bend First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Mrs. McCord, 48, of Harrisburg, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 12, 1998) in Eugene of a sudden illness.

Memorial contributions may be made to the North Bend First Presbyterian Church, 2238 Pony Creek Road, North Bend, OR 97459.

She was born Libby I. Schutte on Nov. 19, 1950, in North Bend.

On June 17, 1995, in Reno, Nev., she married Micky McCord, who survives.

Mrs. McCord was an appraiser with Benton County.

She helped start the first infant swim program at the Mingus Pool, as well as teaching many others to swim.

Mrs. McCord enjoyed sailing, sewing and crocheting and was an accomplished seamstress.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Janene Calhoun, North Bend; a son, Jason Calhoun, Coos Bay; her parents, Merle and Rose Schutte, Coos Bay; a brother, Larry Schutte, North Bend, and a granddaughter.

Arrangements: Coos Bay Chapel.

Robert Allen Jared

The memorial service for Robert Allen Jared will be at 3 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford.

Mr. Jared, 66, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born on Aug. 2, 1932, in Long Beach, Calif.

On July 4, 1953, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Julia Marie Lutes, who died in 1995. He moved to the Rogue Valley 29 years ago from California.

Mr. Jared was a forklift driver at Cascade Wood Products for 28 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Jared was a member of Reese Creek Christian Fellowship near Butte Falls. He had been a former pastor and a Bible student.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and camping.

Survivors include four sons, David, Central Point, Michael, Springfield, Matthew, Portland, and Robert, Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Lori Buck, Medford, and Sharon Korff, Everett, Wash.; three sisters, Joyce Ryan, North Carolina, Janice McIntyre, Tennessee, and Norma Dozier, Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Patricia Ann Coulter

The memorial service for Patricia Ann Coulter will be at 3 p.m. today in Hillcrest Chapel. Jack Crum will officiate.

Ms. Coulter, 62, of White City, died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Patricia Ann Keever on July 2, 1936, in Tucson, Ariz. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Arizona in 1976.

Ms. Coulter was a millworker and a waitress.

She studied with the Jehovah Witnesses.

Survivors include four daughters, Helen Erwin, White City, La Wanda Luna, Longview, Texas, Judy Hagan, and Kathy Hagan, both of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Jack Hagan, Oklahoma, and John David Erwin, Boyd, Texas; a brother, Richard Keever, Medford; two sisters, Peggy Davis, Medford, and Jeanie Hicks, Prineville; and seven grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Robert D. Garote

Robert D. Garote, 38, of Medford, died Dec. 10, 1998, in Medford. A private service will be held.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1960, in Phoenix, Ariz. He moved to Medford four years ago from Arizona.

Mr. Garote was employed by Pro-Ed Plastering and Stucco in Medford.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and shooting pool.

Survivors include two brothers, Ed and Rick, both of Medford; and a sister, Rhonda Brooks, Chino Valley, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward P. Garote Jr., and his mother, Carol Garote.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Virginia W. Hines

Virginia W. Hines, 80, of Ashland, died Saturday (Dec. 12, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland, 175 N. Main, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born April 5, 1918, in Baltimore, Md.

On June 6, 1936, in Baltimore, she married Hugh Hines, who survives. She moved to Ashland in 1979.

Mrs. Hines was a librarian with the public school system.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Barbara Ann Seropian, York, Pa.; a sister, Shirley Andoniade, Indialantic, Fla.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
